Use Restream’s scheduled-event workflow for a finite broadcast; for a continuous channel, choose a service or setup that can keep supplying video around the clock and test its restart behavior before relying on it.
What Restream can—and cannot—do for a 24/7 stream
Restream’s Upload & Stream feature supports prerecorded events that start automatically at a scheduled time. Its documented loop option repeats a selected video up to 10 times. That is not the same as an unlimited loop, so do not treat one scheduled event as a perpetual broadcast. See the Restream scheduling guide and Restream’s Upload & Stream overview.
If your goal is a continuous 24/7 prerecorded channel, you need a workflow that can provide continuous input and recover from interruptions. YouTube’s encoder documentation lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded streaming, but check its current capabilities and operating terms directly. Restream’s own guidance says a server may restart during a continuous stream lasting more than 24 hours and recommends restarting every 24 hours; it does not document an unlimited prerecorded-event loop. Before you schedule a Restream event
Enable YouTube live streaming and connect the right channel
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time live streaming may take 24 hours to activate after phone verification. Check YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Restream says the connected account must own the YouTube channel. Follow its current YouTube connection guide to connect the intended channel.
- Check your Restream account’s current storage and file-size limits before uploading a long video or playlist; these depend on the account add-on tier.
Prepare the video and event details
Have the video ready to select or upload, along with the event title, description, date and time. A thumbnail or event post is optional. Make sure you have permission to use the video and its audio: a scheduled or continuous broadcast remains subject to YouTube’s copyright rules and channel policies.

Schedule a prerecorded event in Restream
- Sign in to Restream and start a new stream. Choose Pre-recorded livestream, then select Video.
- Choose an existing upload or recording, or upload the video file. Confirm it fits the storage and file-size limits on your account.
- Enter the event title, description, date and time. Add an event post or thumbnail if you want one.
- If appropriate, enable the loop option. Restream documents up to 10 repetitions for a scheduled video; it does not establish unlimited looping.
- Select YouTube from the enabled channels and create the event. Restream says the event automatically airs at the scheduled time. You can monitor the stream and chat while it is live.
Run a test before scheduling a broadcast that matters. Confirm the correct channel, video, event time, audio and playback behavior in YouTube. A successful scheduled event confirms that workflow; it does not prove that a stream will continue indefinitely.
Using an encoder instead of a scheduled event
Restream also supports encoder software through RTMP. Use the URL and key provided for the destination you are configuring; Restream’s ingest details are not interchangeable with YouTube’s direct ingest credentials. Keep stream keys private: YouTube describes them as like the stream’s password and address, and provides a reset option if one is compromised. See YouTube’s live stream settings guide.

Video and audio settings
Restream’s YouTube guide lists H.264 video, resolutions from 240p to 2160p, up to 60 FPS, and a bitrate range of 3,000–40,000 Kbps depending on resolution and frame rate. It recommends CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval, with a 4-second maximum. For audio, it lists AAC or MP3 and stereo at 128 Kbps. Use settings appropriate to your resolution and frame rate, and confirm current requirements in Restream’s YouTube guide.
Protect the connection
YouTube recommends upload bandwidth headroom of 20% above your total streaming bitrate and warns that network interruptions can break a stream. Monitor stream health during operation; a configured bitrate alone cannot guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Plan for long-stream limits
- Restart planning: Restream says it does not limit stream duration, but a server may restart during continuous streaming beyond 24 hours and recommends restarting every 24 hours. Build a planned interruption or recovery process into any encoder-based workflow.
- Archives: Restream’s help page says YouTube archives streams under 12 hours. Do not assume a 24/7 broadcast will produce a complete archive.
- Viewer rewind: YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If DVR is disabled, viewers cannot seek backward during the live stream, although a recording may be available afterward. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Troubleshooting
The YouTube channel is unavailable in Restream
Check that live streaming is enabled, the channel is verified, and the connected account owns the channel. If this is the first live stream, allow up to 24 hours after phone verification for activation. Also check for a YouTube live-stream restriction in the past 90 days.
The event does not start at the expected time
Confirm the date, time and selected YouTube destination in the event details. Verify that the channel is still connected and the event was created successfully. Test a new scheduled event if the original event or destination settings are unclear.

The video stops after a limited number of repeats
That is consistent with Restream’s documented limit: its scheduled-video loop runs up to 10 times, not indefinitely. Use a continuous-input workflow for a true 24/7 channel rather than extending the event’s repetitions by assumption.
The encoder stream drops or has poor quality
Check that you used the ingest URL and key for the intended destination, that the key has not been exposed or changed, and that the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, bitrate, CBR and keyframe interval match the destination’s current guidance. Check upload capacity against the total bitrate with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, then monitor for network interruptions.

The broadcast ends or its archive is incomplete
For a continuous stream, plan around Restream’s recommendation to restart every 24 hours. For YouTube, do not rely on DVR or a complete archive for a stream exceeding 12 hours.
