How to Run a 24/7 Lofi Radio Stream on YouTube With OBS

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To run a 24/7 lofi radio stream with OBS, leave OBS running on an always-on computer, send its audio-and-visual feed to a YouTube stream using the matching stream key, and monitor YouTube Studio to confirm the broadcast is live. YouTube can represent continuous programming, but it does not keep a local computer, OBS, or your internet connection running for you. Set up access early, clear music for live and archived use, test privately, and plan what happens if the host or connection fails.

Before you start: enable live streaming and clear the music

Activate your channel in advance

YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days to enable live streaming; it also states that live streamers must be at least 16 years old. Google’s production guide says first-time live access verification can take 24 hours, so do not leave activation until launch day. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and Google’s live-production guide.

Get permission for every use of the music

Secure rights for the live broadcast, any rebroadcast, and any audio or video on demand (VOD) archive. Check that the license covers your intended territory, term, monetization, and archive use. “Royalty free,” “no copyright,” or crediting an artist does not by itself establish that you have those permissions. Keep license terms, track lists, and proof of rights accessible while the stream is running.

YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service also apply to live content. A rights issue or policy restriction can interrupt a stream or affect the channel; a technical rehearsal cannot guarantee that a track will avoid a claim.

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Prepare the show and the machine

  • Build a playlist of cleared lofi tracks and decide how it will repeat. Listen for silence, abrupt transitions, and distracting loop seams.
  • Choose an original or properly licensed illustration, animation, or visual loop. Use a source that fits your output canvas and check OBS’s preview for black bars or unwanted cropping.
  • Choose a computer and upload connection that can handle your output resolution, frame rate, encoder, and scene. There is no universal hardware minimum established for this workflow; the load varies with the setup.
  • Decide whether you need a single continuous broadcast or separate scheduled events. YouTube’s API distinguishes an incoming liveStream encoder feed from liveBroadcast events, but a regular OBS setup can be managed through YouTube Studio without building an API integration. See YouTube’s broadcast resource documentation.

Configure YouTube Studio and OBS

  1. Create or select the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream or broadcast. Set its title, description, privacy, and other channel options. Google recommends managing live streams in YouTube Studio.
  2. Copy the matching stream key. Copy the key for the stream you selected and enter it in OBS’s YouTube streaming configuration. A key mismatch can prevent the feed from starting. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in a screenshot, description, or public post.
  3. Build the OBS scene. Add your lofi audio source and visual loop to a scene. Confirm the audio is audible in the mixer and that the visual fills the canvas as intended.
  4. Set output and video choices. Choose output resolution, frame rate, encoder, and bitrate to suit the intended picture quality, computer capacity, and upload connection. OBS’s setup guide points to YouTube’s bitrate recommendations rather than a universal bitrate; it suggests a 16:9 aspect ratio to avoid black bars and 30 or 60 fps as options. Check the current guidance for your chosen resolution and frame rate before setting bitrate: OBS’s YouTube streaming setup guide.
  5. Start the encoder and verify the feed. Select Start Streaming in OBS. In YouTube Studio, check that the incoming preview appears and the stream status is healthy. Depending on the chosen workflow, you may then need to take the broadcast live in the Live Control Room. Starting OBS sends the encoder feed; confirm the viewer-facing broadcast in YouTube Studio rather than assuming the OBS preview means it is live.

Rehearse before announcing the channel

Run a private or unlisted technical test before making the stream public. Listen and watch through YouTube’s own preview, not only inside OBS. Check for silent or distorted audio, frozen visuals, dropped frames, loop seams, the wrong privacy setting, and any rights or Content ID notices. Fix problems and repeat the test before sharing the public link.

Keep the local OBS stream running

A continuous broadcast in YouTube’s resource model is not the same as a self-recovering local encoder. With OBS on your own computer, the host must remain powered on and awake, OBS must keep running, the audio and visual sources must stay available, and the upload connection must remain usable. A sleep setting, operating-system update, power loss, OBS crash, or network outage can interrupt the feed.

  • Test sleep, automatic updates, restart behavior, and OBS reconnection before relying on the setup unattended.
  • Check the stream and audio periodically, especially after changing the playlist, scene, encoder settings, or network.
  • Decide how you will notice an interruption and restart OBS or restore the connection. A watchdog or scheduled restart may be useful, but the official materials do not prescribe one specific automation method.
  • Do not promise uninterrupted service without measurement. A stable rehearsal demonstrates that the setup worked during the test, not that it will stay online indefinitely.

YouTube’s API documentation shows how a 24/7 feed can stay active while separate broadcasts are created and ended against the same incoming stream. That describes a platform capability, not a guarantee that your computer, encoder, or network will remain available.

Plan recording and archives separately

A long-running live feed should not be treated as one guaranteed saved VOD. Google’s 2025 live-production guide says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” For streams longer than 12 hours, it advises creators to record them for manual upload. If preserving the full program matters, arrange a separate recording and a practical way to split, store, and upload long files; confirm the music license covers the archive too. YouTube’s archive behavior and the guide are described in Google’s live-production documentation.

Troubleshooting common 24/7 stream problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check or do
OBS will not connect or YouTube shows no incoming feed The key does not match the selected YouTube stream, live access is not enabled, or the upload connection is unavailable. Confirm channel eligibility, select the intended stream in Studio, copy its key again into OBS, and check the connection. Keep the key private.
OBS says it is streaming, but viewers cannot see the broadcast The encoder feed has started, but the YouTube broadcast has not been taken live in the workflow being used. Check the incoming preview and status in the Live Control Room, then take the broadcast live there if required.
Audio is missing, too quiet, or distorted The wrong audio source is active, levels are mis-set, or the media source has stopped. Check OBS’s audio mixer and source playback, then listen to the YouTube preview. Adjust levels and replay the affected section before relaunching.
Visuals are cropped or show black bars The source dimensions or scene framing do not fit the output canvas. Check the output canvas and source transform in OBS. A 16:9 output is the recommended general fit for YouTube in the OBS guide; inspect the preview after changing it.
Stream drops or video stutters The host, encoder workload, or upload connection may not sustain the chosen settings. Check OBS and YouTube stream status, verify the network, and choose resolution, frame rate, encoder, and bitrate appropriate to the machine and connection. Use YouTube’s current bitrate guidance rather than applying one figure to every setup.
Music receives a claim or the stream is restricted The permissions may not cover livestreaming, rebroadcast, archive use, or another relevant license condition. Review the written license for the exact use and address the notice through YouTube’s process. Do not assume a track is cleared based only on its uploader’s label or a credit line.
The stream ends and no complete archive appears Very long streams are not guaranteed as a single archived VOD. For programming longer than 12 hours, use a separate recording and plan manual upload, as recommended in Google’s 2025 guide.

Or let it run in the cloud

If keeping a local computer and OBS session running is the part you want to avoid, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only hosted option for looping uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo keeps the loop running from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot rather than quality tiers, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. The service is for uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Start the free day at StreamNeo registration.
