You can earn from a 24/7 YouTube music livestream through Watch Page ads and YouTube Premium revenue if your channel qualifies for the relevant YouTube Partner Program (YPP) features and accepts the Watch Page Monetization Module. Channel memberships are a separate monthly fan-funding option with their own eligibility and Commerce Product Module requirements. Neither continuous airtime nor a valid music license guarantees ad delivery, monetization approval, or a particular income.
Which YouTube monetization features can a 24/7 music stream use?
A continuous livestream does not have a special YPP exemption. Access depends on the channel’s eligibility, location, policy standing, and the applicable monetization module—not on how long the stream stays live. Check the channel’s YouTube Studio > Earn tab for current eligibility and available features before planning around revenue.

These are the thresholds in YouTube’s published YPP overview; requirements and feature availability can change, and meeting a threshold does not itself guarantee approval. Verify the current requirements shown for your channel in Studio. Do not assume that one tier or one acceptance activates every way to earn.
Accept the correct monetization module
- Watch Page Monetization Module: You must accept this to receive Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue from eligible long-form videos and livestreams.
- Commerce Product Module: Fan-funding features, including memberships, have separate terms and activation requirements. Check Studio to see whether memberships are available to your channel and follow its activation flow.
YouTube’s partner earnings overview documents a 55% share of net revenue from ads displayed or streamed on public videos on the content Watch Page, and a 70% share of net revenue from channel memberships and specified fan-funding features under their applicable modules. These are revenue-share terms, not an estimate of what a channel will earn. YouTube says payments are not guaranteed.

How to enable and choose live ad settings
- Check eligibility and module status. In YouTube Studio, open Earn and confirm the channel’s available YPP features and accepted Watch Page Monetization Module.
- Turn on monetization for the livestream. Open the livestream’s settings or live control room in Studio and enable monetization for that stream. The exact controls may vary with the current Studio interface and the stream’s setup.
- Choose mid-roll placement. Select automatic, scheduled, or manual mid-rolls in the livestream’s ad settings. YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled when monetization is on for the livestream.
- Review viewer response. Monitor retention and audience feedback after changing ad settings. For continuous music, ad interruptions can break listening; no one mid-roll setting or interval is established as best for every channel.
Ad slots may not serve, and viewers can receive ads at different times. YouTube’s live ad guidance recommends automatic mid-rolls and says scheduled or manual settings may have lower earning potential than automatic mode. Automatic placement aims for natural breakpoints, but it does not promise uninterrupted playback or an ad for every viewer.

YouTube reported that creators who chose live automatic mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour. YouTube described this as an average comparison between channels with and without automatic live mid-rolls across 207 countries in January 2024. It is a historical platform-reported comparison—not proof that automatic ads caused the difference, a forecast for an individual channel, or a result specific to 24/7 music streams.
If you embed the livestream on an external site and it autoplays, YouTube says ads are turned off for that livestream. That can change the ad experience for embedded viewers.

How to set up channel memberships for music listeners
Memberships let eligible viewers make recurring monthly payments in exchange for creator-defined perks. They can complement ads, but they are not a substitute for serving non-members well, and they do not guarantee a particular number of members or amount of income.

- Accept the Commerce Product Module. Memberships have terms separate from the Watch Page Monetization Module. Follow the Studio activation flow for the feature.
- Choose perks you can sustain. Possible options include badges, emoji, member posts, or genuinely distinct member-only listening or community benefits, where those features are available. Describe exactly what members receive and how often you will provide it.
- Keep the public stream worthwhile. Do not make the public broadcast feel like an empty preview. Some automatic ad controls are intended to limit mid-roll disruption for channel members, but that is not a guarantee that every member experience is free of interruptions.
For a 24/7 channel, promise only perks you can deliver consistently. A member-only listening session, for example, is useful only if you can actually produce and maintain it; do not imply a benefit is available just because memberships are enabled.
Clear music rights for both the live stream and its archive
Before broadcasting, confirm that your rights cover the specific music use. YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the creator to have the necessary rights for exploitation of the live content on Google services, including music licensing rights involving artists, record labels, publishers—including public performance licenses—and other royalty participants.

Check what the permission actually covers
Review the written license or other permission for the composition and the sound recording, not just a general statement that a track is “licensed.” Confirm the scope for livestreaming, monetization, territories, duration, and any recording or archived replay. A permission limited to ordinary video use, or to a particular platform or territory, should not be assumed to cover a worldwide continuous broadcast.
- Does the permission cover this recording and composition, and the way you will use each?
- Does it expressly allow live broadcasting and monetization?
- Does it cover the territories where viewers may watch and the duration of the license?
- Does it also cover saving and monetizing the stream archive, if you plan to keep it?
- Does the rights holder need to allowlist your channel through Content ID to prevent automated live interruptions?
Keep the license and any relevant written permissions or allowlisting confirmation somewhere you can retrieve them. If a license is unclear about live use, territories, or archives, get clarification from the rights holder rather than treating uncertainty as permission.
Understand live Content ID interruptions and archive claims
YouTube scans livestreams for third-party material. It may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you, temporarily interrupt the broadcast, or terminate it. YouTube says even licensed third-party content can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. A claim can also arise on an archived livestream after the broadcast ends.

Creator Music is not a general clearance route for a 24/7 live broadcast: YouTube describes its licensed or revenue-sharing tracks as usable in long-form videos, not livestreams. Check the actual terms for any music you use rather than assuming a video license covers live transmission.

Copyright permission and monetization-policy eligibility are separate questions. A valid license can address whether you have permission to use music, but it does not by itself establish that YouTube will consider the channel original and authentic for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams and can disqualify repetitive or mass-produced material.
Make the channel’s authorship and creative contribution legible to viewers and reviewers. Depending on what is accurate for your channel, that might mean original compositions, live performance, distinctive visuals, meaningful curation with substantial original contribution, or visible creator participation. None of these approaches guarantees approval; do not present a licensed loop as proof of originality by itself.

Other possible revenue routes—and what they do not promise
YouTube also lists Super Chat and Super Stickers for live chat, Shopping, YouTube Premium revenue, and brand partnerships as possible revenue routes. Availability and eligibility differ by feature and channel. Treat them as optional complements: a quiet ambient music stream, for example, should not be planned around an assumption that live-chat funding will be substantial.
There is no defensible universal income figure for a 24/7 music stream. Audience size, geography, eligibility, ad delivery, viewer behavior, rights, and other factors all matter, and the platform’s revenue-share percentages do not specify what your channel will earn. Continuous duration does not guarantee impressions, ad fill, monetization approval, or a particular payment.
