You can send a prerecorded video or live input from a Windows PC to YouTube Live with FFmpeg, but a one-file command is not an endless loop. For a continuous prerecorded broadcast, configure YouTube Live Control Room, use FFmpeg’s real-time input mode, and restart the input when it reaches its end. Test the full setup on your own connection: YouTube does not guarantee that a local PC or internet connection will stay online.
What “continuous” means with FFmpeg
FFmpeg can send a file to a streaming server in real time. Its documented example is ffmpeg -re -i myfile -f flv rtmp://myserver/live/mystream. The -re option reads the file at its natural playback rate; it does not make the file repeat. To keep prerecorded content running, you need a loop strategy as well as a way to recover if FFmpeg, Windows, the PC, or the network stops.
The steps below cover a basic file-to-YouTube test and a Windows batch loop for repeating one file. The batch example restarts playback when the file ends, but it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted delivery or automatic recovery from every network failure. FFmpeg’s official protocol documentation describes RTMP/RTMPS and real-time file sending, not this particular Windows loop as a tested, supported continuous-streaming service.
Check YouTube eligibility and install FFmpeg
Confirm live-stream access
In YouTube Studio, check that your channel can go live. YouTube’s getting-started guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Confirm availability in your own account; the reviewed official guidance does not establish a separate India-specific eligibility rule.

Get an FFmpeg Windows build
The FFmpeg project distributes source code and links to Windows builds from gyan.dev and BtbN; those linked builds are not executables distributed directly by the FFmpeg project. Choose a build appropriate for your system from the links on FFmpeg’s download page. After installation, open Command Prompt and run ffmpeg -version to check that Windows can find the executable. If it cannot, add the FFmpeg bin directory to your PATH or run commands from that directory.
Create a YouTube stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that configuration. Use the current values from Live Control Room rather than an old example; follow YouTube’s instructions on whether the key is appended to the server URL.
- Keep the key private. YouTube describes stream keys as a password and address for the stream. Do not publish it in a script, screenshot, video, or repository. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update your FFmpeg command.
For RTMP/RTMPS destinations, YouTube’s current guidance recommends H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1 among ingest codecs, but the command below uses the broadly applicable H.264 and AAC baseline; confirm that your selected stream configuration and FFmpeg build support the protocol and options you choose.
Test a single file before looping it
For a prerecorded input, substitute your actual file path, YouTube server URL, and key. This Windows Command Prompt example uses H.264, AAC, CBR, and a two-second GOP at 30 fps:

The example targets 1080p30 at the 10 Mbps video bitrate YouTube recommends for H.264; it does not resize your source, so use a matching input or add scaling only after deciding the output resolution. The libx264 encoder requires an FFmpeg build that includes it.
Start FFmpeg before the scheduled event, then check the preview in Live Control Room. YouTube advises setting up in advance, checking that the watch page is accessible, and monitoring audio/video health. End the test from YouTube’s controls as appropriate and stop FFmpeg with q in its console or Ctrl+C.

Choose a bitrate your Windows connection can sustain
YouTube’s published H.264 recommendations below are general guidance, not an India-specific speed guarantee. They are video bitrates; audio and network overhead also use bandwidth.

The GOP examples assume a two-second keyframe interval: frames per second multiplied by two. YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says it should not exceed four seconds. Its streaming tips recommend leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom. Measure sustained outbound speed on the actual Windows connection and account for other traffic; a speed test is not a guarantee of continuous capacity. If the stream health is poor, lower the bitrate or resolution and test again.
Repeat a prerecorded file in a Windows batch loop
Save the following as loop-stream.bat and replace the input path and destination. It runs FFmpeg again after each completed playback, with a short pause. This is a basic restart-on-end loop, not a full watchdog: it will also retry after an FFmpeg error and can repeatedly fail if the key, URL, file, or connection is wrong.

Run the batch file from a private local folder. Since the stream key appears in the script, restrict access to it and never share the file. If the stream is interrupted, inspect FFmpeg’s console output and Live Control Room before relying on the loop. Restarting FFmpeg may reconnect, but this simple batch file does not establish that every drop will recover cleanly or without a gap.

Sessions and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single session longer than 12 hours will be archived. If an archive matters, plan stream sessions below that threshold and verify the result in YouTube Studio.

Rights and reused material
Use only video and audio you have the rights to stream. Repeating a video does not grant permission to use its music, footage, or other material. YouTube’s copyright and monetization decisions are separate from whether FFmpeg can send the file successfully; check the platform’s current policies and the rights for every item in a playlist before broadcasting.
India-specific considerations
The official material reviewed supports the general YouTube encoder workflow, not a country-specific setup, universal local network performance, or legal conclusion for India. Verify access in your account and test on the actual connection and location from which you will stream.
Troubleshooting
- FFmpeg says the command is not recognized: Windows cannot locate the executable. Run Command Prompt in FFmpeg’s
binfolder or add that folder to PATH, then retryffmpeg -version. - YouTube receives no signal or rejects the connection: Check that the stream is created in Live Control Room, that you copied the matching server URL and current key, and that the FFmpeg build supports the destination protocol. Reset the key if it may have been exposed.
- The file plays once and stops: That is expected for the single-file command. Use the batch loop for repeat-on-completion behavior.
- The loop reconnects but the preview is unstable: Check FFmpeg errors, stream health, sustained upload capacity, and competing network traffic. Reduce bitrate or resolution, then test ahead of the real broadcast with bandwidth headroom.
- The audio or video format is rejected or unhealthy: Confirm the selected ingest format and stream configuration. The baseline here uses H.264 and AAC; check that the installed build includes
libx264and that the input has usable audio/video tracks. - The stream stops when the PC or internet drops: FFmpeg on that PC depends on Windows, power, and the local connection remaining available. The batch loop cannot fix a power failure or restore an unavailable connection.
- The archived video is missing: Check whether the stream session exceeded YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic-archive threshold and review the archive in Studio.
