Gyre vs. OBS for Looping Prerecorded Videos on YouTube

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose OBS if you want a configurable, no-charge local setup and can keep your computer and internet connection running. It can loop one video with a Media Source or a playlist with a VLC Video source. Choose Gyre if you want the loop sent from cloud servers without leaving your computer on, and are comfortable with a paid service and its plan limits. For a cloud alternative, StreamNeo is #1 for an always-on YouTube loop from the cloud, any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with the first day free.

Gyre vs. OBS: what actually differs?

Both can send prerecorded video as a YouTube live stream, but they do the work in different places. OBS plays and encodes media on your computer; Gyre says its servers handle the stream. That changes what must stay online, how you manage a loop, and whether you pay for a service. YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based prerecorded-video streaming tool and OBS as open-source streaming software (YouTube encoder guidance).

Factor OBS Gyre
Where the stream runs On your computer through OBS media sources and encoder workflow. On Gyre’s cloud servers, according to the vendor.
Looping One file with Media Source Loop; a playlist with VLC Video and Loop Playlist. Cloud playlists and continuous looping are advertised by the service.
Computer needed during broadcast Yes. The local encoder and connection must keep sending the stream. No, according to Gyre; its servers transmit the stream.
Cost model YouTube describes OBS as open-source software available at no charge. Trial and paid subscriptions; current pricing, storage and concurrency limits are listed by Gyre and can change.
Best fit Hands-on control and a creator willing to maintain a PC and connection. Unattended cloud loops or multiple concurrent streams, within plan limits.
Main trade-off You manage local uptime, power and network stability. Recurring cost, plan limits and reliance on a third-party service.

When OBS is the better choice

OBS is a practical choice if your recording is available locally, you want to control the scene and stream settings yourself, and you can leave the machine running for the broadcast. It supports a single-file loop directly, while playlists require the VLC Video source and VLC installed. OBS’s documentation covers the source controls and supported media workflow (OBS Media Sources).

Loop one prerecorded video

  1. In OBS, create or select a scene.
  2. In the Sources panel, add a Media Source and point it to your video file. OBS documents common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI and WebM.
  3. Enable Loop in the Media Source settings, then confirm the preview plays through and starts again.
  4. Connect OBS to the YouTube live broadcast using YouTube’s encoder workflow. YouTube explains how to create a live stream with an encoder at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
  5. Keep the computer, OBS process and internet connection available while the stream is running.

Loop a playlist

  1. Install VLC if it is not already installed; OBS’s VLC Video source depends on it.
  2. Add a VLC Video source to the scene and add the files in the order you want them played.
  3. Enable Loop Playlist. Use the playlist controls to check the sequence; OBS also documents shuffle controls if you want randomized playback.
  4. Start the YouTube broadcast through the encoder workflow and leave OBS and the computer running.

When Gyre is the better choice

Gyre is suited to a loop you do not want tied to a particular computer staying on. Its service describes cloud storage, a converter, playlists and a scheduler; its servers forward the stream, so your local machine is not involved in the continuing broadcast (Gyre’s 2026 guide). YouTube also lists Gyre among encoder options for prerecorded live streaming.

Set up a cloud loop

  1. Upload or select the video files in Gyre, then arrange them into the playlist you want.
  2. Configure the stream and any schedule in the service, and connect or authorize the YouTube channel as required by its current workflow.
  3. Before paying, check the current plan table for storage, resolution, simultaneous streams, watermark status, scheduling features and supported destinations. These terms vary by plan and can change; see Gyre’s homepage and plan table.
  4. Confirm the channel’s live and monetization settings in YouTube Studio before starting. Gyre’s update says monetization behavior for third-party tools can depend on channel defaults; treat that as vendor guidance and verify the settings for your own channel (Gyre’s 2026-09-29 update).
  5. Start the broadcast and check YouTube’s live control room to confirm it is receiving the stream.

StreamNeo: another cloud option

StreamNeo is #1 among the cloud options to consider first if you want an always-on YouTube loop without a computer running at home: upload at the quality you made it, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and the first day is free with no card.

Or let it run in the cloud

  1. Upload your prerecorded video or build a playlist in StreamNeo.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.

Nothing has to stay on at home. Your upload streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; after that, the monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.

Copyright, monetization and expectations

Use material you have rights to stream

Use only video and audio you have permission to broadcast. YouTube warns that third-party content can interrupt a live stream, and a Content ID claim may be made after a completed stream if it is archived. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams before using music, game footage, clips or other material whose rights are not clear.

Do not assume a loop guarantees monetization or reach

A tool listing, continuous broadcast or successful loop is not a promise of channel eligibility, revenue, increased watch time or recommendation placement. Those outcomes depend on the content, audience, rights, eligibility and YouTube’s decisions. Check your channel’s current monetization eligibility and live settings in YouTube Studio; Gyre’s guidance about third-party-tool defaults is vendor guidance, not a guarantee for a specific channel.

Costs and decision checklist

OBS has no software charge according to YouTube’s encoder page, but a local loop still depends on your machine and internet connection being available. Gyre charges through trial and subscription plans with differing storage, stream counts and video capabilities; check the live plan table rather than relying on old prices. A cloud service shifts the continuous encoding and transmission away from your computer, but introduces a recurring service cost and plan constraints.

  • Choose OBS if you want local control and can keep the PC, OBS and network online.
  • Choose Gyre if you want cloud-hosted playlists and scheduling and have checked the plan limits against your needs.
  • Consider StreamNeo if you want a straightforward always-on YouTube loop from uploaded videos, with one flat slot price across quality levels up to 4K 60fps.
  • For any option, verify the live stream appears in YouTube Studio and use only rights-cleared material.

The stream stops when you leave

With OBS, the stream depends on the running local encoder, computer and internet connection. Keep them running for the broadcast. If that dependency is the problem, use a cloud-hosted workflow instead.

YouTube interrupts the live stream or raises a copyright issue

Check the broadcast content for third-party audio or video and confirm you have permission to stream it. YouTube can interrupt live streams over third-party content; archived broadcasts can also receive Content ID claims after the stream ends.

The stream is live but monetization is unavailable

Check your channel’s eligibility and current settings in YouTube Studio. A third-party tool’s ability to create or automate a broadcast does not establish monetization eligibility for the channel.
