If YouTube limits ads on a monetized live stream, open the affected stream or its video in YouTube Studio on a computer, check the notice, and use the available Appeal or Request review action if the video is eligible. A human expert reviews the video and its metadata; YouTube says an appeal can take up to seven days, and the decision after that appeal is final.
What a limited-ads decision means
A limited-earnings status does not necessarily stop all ads. It means advertisers that choose to appear only alongside content considered safer may opt out, so the video may earn less than content suitable for all advertisers. A no-earnings status means the video is not eligible for ad revenue under YouTube’s advertiser-friendly guidelines. These statuses concern ad revenue; they do not by themselves determine whether other revenue sources are available. YouTube’s explanation of limited or no ad earnings describes the distinction.
How to appeal in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio on a computer.
- Open Content and locate the affected live stream or its resulting video.
- Check the item’s Notices or Restrictions status and open the notice to read its details and impact.
- If Studio offers Appeal or Request review, select it and follow the prompts. The exact label or location can vary by interface; use the action shown with the affected notice.
- Explain the relevant context accurately and submit the appeal. Watch for YouTube’s email with the final decision.
The appeal control appears only when YouTube marks a video eligible. If no appeal action is available, follow the notice shown in Studio rather than treating a missing button as a separate appeal route. What YouTube reviews, including for live streams
YouTube says scheduled live streams are checked before they go live. Its systems consider the title, description, thumbnail, and tags; a human reviewer assesses the video and associated metadata together. YouTube’s review guidance says the reviewer considers context, focus, tone, realism, and graphicness, with context the most important principle. See How advertiser-friendly monetization reviews work.

Before appealing, compare both the stream itself and its packaging with YouTube’s advertiser-friendly content best practices. If potentially sensitive material is educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic, explain that accurately and make the purpose clear in the content and metadata where appropriate. Context may affect the assessment, but it does not guarantee that an appeal will be granted.
Pending checks are different from an appeal
Some limited- or no-earnings decisions may receive additional checks under a process YouTube described as announced from March 10, 2025. In some cases those checks, which may include human review, can take up to 24 hours. This is separate from the appeal review timeline. YouTube recommends waiting for checks to finish before making content public when practical; if the settled decision remains one you disagree with and an appeal is offered, use the Studio notice. What happens after you submit
- A human expert reviews the video and related metadata against YouTube’s advertiser-friendly guidelines.
- YouTube says an appeal may take up to seven days. That is the stated maximum window, not a promise that every review takes that long.
- YouTube emails you when a final decision is made. It describes one appeal; after it, the reviewer’s decision is final and the monetization status will not change.
- The visible monetization icon can change while the appeal is pending because automated systems continue scanning.
Do not delete and re-upload the video as a workaround: YouTube says that will not help with an appeal.
Self-Certification and reviewer feedback
If your channel has access to Self-Certification, you can rate content against advertiser-friendly guidelines. YouTube says those ratings can help inform its decisions, and creators who disagree with a flag can appeal. For some limited- or no-earnings appeals submitted through the desktop Self-Certification flow, YouTube may provide policy timestamps to indicate where reviewers found issues. A timestamp is explanatory; it does not tell you exactly how to edit the video or guarantee another review. YouTube also says videos, thumbnails, and titles edited to remove violating content are not eligible for re-review through this process.
