To schedule a worship stream, open YouTube Studio and go to Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule Stream. Scheduling creates an upcoming event and watch page; it does not start an unattended 24/7 broadcast by itself. At service time, an encoder must send the video and audio feed, and someone must select Go live in Live Control Room. For a continuous stream, you also need a tested way to keep the program playing and recover if the feed stops.
Schedule the YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then open Manage.
- Select Schedule Stream. Create a new event or reuse settings from a previous stream. Add the event details and set its start time.
- Save the event. YouTube creates an upcoming watch page that you can share; viewers may also be able to set a reminder.
- In the scheduled event’s Live Control Room, note the stream URL and stream key for the encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your event. Reset it if it is exposed.
- At broadcast time, configure and start the encoder. Check its incoming feed in Live Control Room, then select Go live when the preview is ready.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the event workflow in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder; stream-key controls are covered in Manage live stream settings.
Plan what “continuous” means for your church
A scheduled event is a start time and watch page, not a 24/7 playout system. Scheduling alone does not establish unattended playback, automatic restart, or guaranteed reconnection after an outage. Decide whether you need a stream only during a service, a longer sequence of services, or an always-on channel, then test the playback and recovery workflow that fits.
Software encoder
Software encoding can suit a church that already has a capable computer and a stable upload connection. It avoids dedicated encoder hardware, but the computer, encoder software, network, and program source must remain available for the duration of the broadcast. YouTube supports software encoding; a hardware encoder is not required.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Hardware encoder
YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but does not require one. Dedicated hardware may make sense when the production team wants an appliance separate from its general-purpose computer. Consider equipment cost, existing network capacity, setup and operating skills, and whether someone can respond to a failure. YouTube’s YouTube live streaming tips and Streaming tips cover preparation and operation.
Set up and test the encoder
Use YouTube’s encoder recommendations as a starting point, not a guarantee of quality. The recommended H.264 bitrate is 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Actual results depend on the encoder, connection, and production.

Pre-service checklist
- Set up and check the encoder at least two hours before the event; YouTube advises starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
- Confirm the encoder is sending to the correct event with the intended stream key.
- Check the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound, and synchronization before selecting Go live.
- Open the event from the channel or watch page and verify it is reachable on a mobile device.
- Monitor stream health, audio, and video during the service. If you rely on a backup encoder, test the failover before the event.
- If you are making a local recording, verify that its file is growing and that storage is sufficient.
Clear music and other content rights before streaming
A church service does not automatically have the rights needed to livestream every hymn, arrangement, recording, or backing track. YouTube’s live-stream terms say the broadcaster must have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Check permissions for the actual songs, recordings, and territories in which the stream will be available.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. An identified match can result in a warning or placeholder image; if the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. If you have licensed material, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and copyright guidance for live streams.
Plan for long broadcasts and recovery
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the service matters, record a local copy or divide programming into shorter stream blocks; do not rely on a complete YouTube replay for a stream longer than 12 hours. See Archive live streams.

For a continuous worship channel, make a written recovery plan: identify who can restart the encoder, where the stream key is stored securely, what happens if the internet connection fails, and how the team will communicate a replacement event or stream. Scheduling does not itself provide automatic restart or reconnection, so test the actual workflow before relying on it.
