To show what is playing on a podcast YouTube livestream, add an overlay webpage to your OBS scene as a Browser Source—but first confirm that the overlay can access the right information. A music-track overlay may update when a song changes; it does not necessarily know which podcast episode you are discussing. For an episode title, use a compatible episode-metadata integration or update an OBS Text Source yourself.
First decide what “now playing” means
There are two different jobs that often get called a now-playing overlay:
- Music track: show the title or artist of music playing during the stream. An overlay connected to a supported player or metadata source may update automatically when the track changes.
- Podcast episode: show the episode currently being discussed or played. A track-oriented overlay should not be assumed to detect podcast episode titles. Its compatibility depends on whether it receives that episode metadata.
If the episode changes only when you choose to discuss another one, a manually edited label is often the most dependable starting point. If you need automatic updates, verify the provider’s exact metadata source and test it with the player or podcast workflow you actually use.
Add an automatic overlay webpage in OBS
The usual OBS method is to add the provider’s overlay URL to the scene as a Browser Source. For a track overlay, the reviewed Now Playing provider describes a live webpage that updates when its connected track changes; its setup uses the account’s overlay URL and does not require a plugin or script. That documented track behavior does not establish automatic podcast-episode detection.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Choose and configure the overlay provider. Confirm that it receives the data you want viewers to see: a music track, a podcast episode title, or another field. Copy the overlay URL from the provider’s account or dashboard. Do not use a track integration for episode titles unless the provider confirms that it receives those titles.
- Open the scene in OBS Studio. Select the scene used for the podcast broadcast. In the Sources dock, click + and choose Browser. Create a new source, give it a recognizable name, and confirm.
- Enter the overlay URL and dimensions. Paste the provider’s URL into the Browser Source’s URL field. Use the dimensions recommended by that provider when available; otherwise, set dimensions that fit the overlay design and your scene. These dimensions control the browser canvas, not the YouTube stream’s output resolution.
- Position and layer the source. Place the source where it will not cover the host, captions, episode artwork, or other important content. In the Sources list, keep it above the video layer it should appear over. Resize or crop it in the preview as needed.
- Preview the actual data. If the provider offers a preview or sample-track test, use it to check the text, layout, and update behavior. The reviewed provider’s dashboard guide describes a sample-track preview. A sample proves the overlay can render a test; it does not by itself prove that your podcast player supplies episode metadata.
- Check readability at stream size. View the OBS canvas at the intended output resolution and confirm that the label is legible, not clipped, and visible against the background. If the provider page is blank or stale, check the URL, provider connection, and source visibility before going live.
Show a podcast episode with an OBS Text Source
If your overlay provider cannot read episode metadata, use OBS’s customizable Text Source and update the wording when the episode changes. This is manual, but it avoids presenting a track title as if it were an episode title.
- In the podcast scene’s Sources dock, click + and select Text (the text source option in OBS).
- Create and name the source, then enter the episode title or other short label in its text field.
- Set the text appearance using the source’s available font and color controls. Keep the wording short enough to read without covering the host or essential scene content.
- Place the text in the scene preview and put the source above the video layer. Check it at the intended output resolution.
- When you move to a different episode, edit the source text before or during the transition. If you may forget, make the title change part of the episode-change checklist.
OBS Text Sources are customizable; the manual episode-update approach is a practical use of that capability, not an automatic podcast-player integration.

How to choose between automatic and manual labels
| Approach | Best fit | Update behavior | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Provider Browser Source | Track titles or episode metadata explicitly supported by the provider | Can update automatically when its connected data changes; this depends on the provider and source | Metadata compatibility, preview/test mode, appearance, and what viewers see if the page or data stops updating |
| OBS Text Source | A podcast episode title that you can update yourself | Manual: the producer changes the text when the episode changes | Correct title, readability, placement, and a reliable reminder to update it |
| Streamlabs widget or overlay | A supported Streamlabs widget whose actual data matches the desired label | Depends on the selected widget and its data source | Widget metadata compatibility, URL, dimensions, positioning, and preview |
Streamlabs documents adding a widget URL to OBS or another supported streaming application as a Browser Source, and also describes an overlay library and a plugin route for OBS. Those are general ways to place overlays; they do not establish that a particular widget automatically supplies podcast-episode metadata. Choose by the source of the metadata, how much manual updating you can handle, visual control, and the fallback viewers will see if the source stops updating.
Test before the broadcast
- Confirm the label says the intended thing: episode title, not merely the track currently playing.
- Check the overlay in the scene at the actual output size, including its contrast, position, and whether it is obscured by another source.
- For automatic data, change the track or episode in the connected workflow and verify that the displayed value changes as expected.
- For a manual label, rehearse changing the text and decide who is responsible for doing it when the episode changes.
- Decide what to do if the browser page or metadata stops updating: remove or hide the source, show a manual label, or continue without the overlay rather than leaving misleading information on screen.
Keep rights and YouTube rules separate from the overlay setup
An overlay only displays information; it does not grant permission to use podcast audio, music, artwork, or other material. Before streaming, make sure you have the rights needed for the material you use and follow YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream policies. Do not treat a correct title label—or a provider’s ability to display it—as proof that the underlying content is cleared. Monetization settings and ad-break instructions are separate from adding a now-playing label and are not required for this overlay setup.
