How to Add Multiple Videos to One Continuous YouTube Live Stream

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can show multiple videos in one continuous YouTube live stream, but YouTube Studio does not provide a queue that turns a channel playlist into a live broadcast. Create or schedule one live event in YouTube Studio, then use an encoder to play the videos in sequence and send that combined feed to YouTube.

How the setup works

Think of the YouTube live event as the destination and the encoder as the source of the broadcast. YouTube Studio creates or schedules the event and provides a server URL and stream key. Your encoder produces the outgoing video and audio feed; the sequence of prerecorded videos must be arranged in that encoder or production workflow. An ordinary YouTube playlist does not automatically become a live stream. YouTube’s encoder guide describes connecting an encoder to a live event, not converting a channel playlist into a broadcast.

Before you start

  • Check channel eligibility. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also states streamers must be at least 16. Check the current eligibility prompts for your account at YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility page.
  • Choose an encoder workflow. It must be able to play the files in the desired order and send one continuous feed to YouTube. Software and hardware encoders are both supported; controls for queues, looping, and transitions depend on the specific encoder.
  • Prepare your files and rights. Confirm the video and audio play correctly in the intended order, and that you have the rights needed to broadcast them. A live broadcast is still subject to YouTube’s copyright rules; permission to upload a file does not necessarily grant permission to livestream it.
  • Plan for a stable sending device and connection. In a do-it-yourself encoder setup, the encoder must remain able to send the feed. A computer sleeping, losing power, or losing its internet connection can interrupt the broadcast.

Set up a multi-video live stream

  1. Build the video sequence in your encoder or production workflow. Add the prerecorded clips in the order you want viewers to see them. Configure the encoder’s own playlist, media source, or switching workflow as appropriate; exact controls vary by product, so use that encoder’s current instructions rather than assuming YouTube supplies a file queue. Decide whether the sequence should stop after the last clip, repeat, or include transitions, and test the behavior before scheduling a public event.
  2. Create or schedule the YouTube event. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live. Use the Stream tab to set up a new stream, or go to Manage > Schedule Stream for a scheduled broadcast. YouTube’s instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
  3. Copy the connection details into the encoder. In Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it, share it with people who do not need access, or include it in a public screenshot. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting.
  4. Select an ingestion protocol supported by both ends. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted form of RTMP. Use a protocol offered by both the event setup and your encoder. YouTube also documents HLS ingestion; it has higher latency than RTMP and requires specific segment settings, so use it only when the encoder or stream requirements call for it. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion guidance.
  5. Start the encoder feed and check Live Control Room. Confirm that YouTube receives the picture and sound and that the preview matches the first clip. Test clip changes, audio levels, and the end or repeat behavior. YouTube recommends checking stream health during the broadcast; its encoder guidance also covers connection and stream-health considerations.
  6. Start and end the event deliberately. For a scheduled stream, start the event from Live Control Room after the preview appears and the feed is ready. At the end, end the event in YouTube’s controls and stop the encoder feed as directed in the current workflow. Avoid leaving a scheduled event waiting indefinitely if the sequence has finished.

Choose settings and a workflow that fit the sequence

YouTube’s documented instructions establish how to create and connect the live event, but the details of loading and sequencing prerecorded files are encoder-specific. Before committing to a long broadcast, check the encoder’s current documentation for these capabilities:

  • Whether it can play local files continuously in the required order, and whether it can loop or transition between them.
  • Whether its output protocol matches the event’s available ingestion method.
  • Whether it preserves the video and audio quality you intend to send, and whether the computer or production setup can sustain that output.
  • What happens after a file ends, a file fails to load, or the encoder loses its connection—and whether recovery is automatic or requires intervention.

YouTube’s HLS documentation lists OBS among encoders supporting HLS output. That is not a guarantee that OBS has a particular playlist workflow or that a given OBS configuration is suitable for your sequence; confirm current OBS capabilities and setup separately. YouTube’s general encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If the archive matters, verify the current event settings and limits rather than assuming a longer stream will be saved the same way.

Troubleshoot common failures

  • YouTube shows no incoming video. Check that the encoder is actually sending, that the server URL and stream key match the event, and that the selected protocol is supported on both sides. Re-copy the details from Live Control Room if needed, keeping the key private.
  • The event preview is blank or has no sound. Verify the encoder’s active output and audio source, then inspect the preview before starting the public event. Test with a short clip to isolate a file or audio-routing problem.
  • The next video does not start. The handoff is controlled by the encoder or production workflow, not by the YouTube channel playlist. Check the queue order, file availability, and what the encoder is configured to do when a clip ends.
  • The stream stops when the computer goes offline. In a do-it-yourself setup, the encoder and its connection are part of the broadcast path. Prevent sleep and interruptions, or use a cloud service designed to keep prerecorded video streaming without a home computer running.
  • The broadcast has high latency. Check whether the event is using HLS. YouTube documents higher latency for HLS than RTMP; use the protocol that fits your workflow and is supported by both YouTube and the encoder.
  • YouTube flags or blocks a clip. Review the rights for every video and audio track, and check YouTube’s notices in Studio. A multi-video sequence does not remove copyright obligations or guarantee that all clips are eligible to stream.
