You can keep a YouTube channel live with pre-recorded videos by sending a prepared video feed from an encoder to a YouTube livestream. YouTube provides the stream URL and key and lets you schedule a stream, but it does not document a native feature for looping video files indefinitely. The encoder or a separate playout service must handle playback, looping, and recovery.
What you need for a 24/7 prerecorded YouTube livestream
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream.
- Video and audio you have the rights to broadcast.
- An encoder or playout service that can send the prepared video to YouTube and manage the playlist or loop for your intended schedule.
- A reliable connection and a plan for what happens if the encoder or connection stops.
YouTube’s encoder documentation describes connecting an encoder to a stream; it does not identify a particular file-looping product or promise uninterrupted playback. Confirm that your chosen software, hardware, or service supports continuous file playback, scheduling, and recovery before relying on it.
Check YouTube access and content rights first
Confirm live-streaming eligibility
YouTube’s current getting-started guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and be operated by a streamer who is at least 16. Check the channel’s status before building a 24/7 setup: YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance. A restriction cannot be bypassed by streaming from another channel, according to YouTube’s restriction guidance.
Review rights for everything in the feed
You are responsible for having the necessary rights to livestream all included video, music, and other material, and for complying with applicable law and YouTube’s rules. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions before leaving a stream unattended.

Do not assume a continuous prerecorded format is automatically approved or monetizable
YouTube’s published encoder and monetization guidance establishes general livestream and channel policies, but does not make a format-specific ruling that every continuous stream of prerecorded videos is permitted or prohibited. It also does not guarantee monetization for such a channel. Apply the general rules to the channel and its content, and monitor it for claims or policy issues.
Set up the YouTube stream and encoder
- Prepare the playback system. Select encoding software, a hardware encoder, or a managed playout service that can send your prepared video to YouTube. Verify its file playback, playlist looping, scheduling, stream-key handling, and recovery behavior. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the connection process, not which product can loop files: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Create or schedule a stream. Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room to create a stream or schedule one. Scheduling can make an upcoming stream available for promotion and reminders. YouTube’s live stream settings guide documents reusable settings, custom stream keys, and auto-start and auto-stop options. Those controls are not documented as file-looping features.
- Copy the connection details. In the stream’s encoder settings in Live Control Room, copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Keep the key private: it authorizes an encoder to connect to your stream.
- Enter the details in your encoder. In the encoder’s streaming settings, enter the server URL and key, then configure its prepared-video playback as needed. Exact labels vary by encoder, so use that product’s documentation for the relevant fields and playlist controls.
- Start the outgoing feed and verify it. Start the encoder. YouTube creates the watch page once it receives the feed. Check the Live Control Room preview and the public watch page, if available, to confirm the correct video and audio are reaching YouTube.
- Test unattended operation. Before treating the channel as always-on, test what happens when a file ends, a playlist reaches its end, the encoder restarts, or the network drops. YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings control stream behavior; they do not establish that the encoder will restart itself or resume a playlist after a failure.
Plan for looping, interruptions, and archiving
Looping is the encoder or service’s job
YouTube documents stream creation and encoder connection, but its reviewed help pages do not describe a built-in YouTube playlist that loops prerecorded files indefinitely. Set up looping in your selected encoder or playout service and verify that it returns to the intended item without leaving a gap.

Recovery is not guaranteed by YouTube’s connection instructions
The reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish guaranteed uptime or automatic restart after an encoder or network failure. Check whether your playback system can detect a dropped connection and reconnect, and monitor the stream for interruptions rather than assuming YouTube will restore the outgoing feed.
Understand the archive rule
YouTube says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” This is an archive rule, not a stated maximum stream duration. See the current encoder setup guide for the full details.

Protect originality and understand monetization
Rights and monetization are separate questions
Having permission to use material does not by itself settle whether a channel meets YouTube’s monetization policies. YouTube’s policy update dated July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible for monetization. Its separate reused-content policy considers whether material repurposed from YouTube or elsewhere includes significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. The policy applies across a channel, so putting videos you own into a continuous stream alone does not assure eligibility. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Revenue features are conditional
If a channel is eligible and monetization is enabled, YouTube documents livestream ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and memberships as possible revenue routes. YouTube does not guarantee that ad slots will serve, and these options do not mean that a particular always-on prerecorded channel qualifies. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.

Choose how to keep the feed running
Creator-operated encoding software
YouTube supports software encoding. This can suit a creator who wants to run playback on their own computer and has verified that the software handles the required playlist, schedule, and recovery behavior. The computer, encoder, and network then become part of the operating setup.
Dedicated hardware encoder
YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events, but does not make hardware necessary for a basic prerecorded channel. Before buying, verify that the device supports the required YouTube output, file playback and looping, schedule controls, and recovery behavior. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
