One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchYou can send a podcast to YouTube with FFmpeg from India using the same general encoder workflow YouTube provides worldwide: verify your channel is eligible, create or select a live event in YouTube Studio, copy its RTMPS address and stream key, then configure FFmpeg to send compatible audio and video. YouTube’s published guidance does not specify a separate FFmpeg setup for India.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and prepare the event
YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and belong to a creator who is at least 16. Check eligibility before spending time configuring the encoder.
Have FFmpeg installed on the computer that will send the stream, plus a video source and microphone or other audio source. YouTube lists microphones, webcams and headphones as typical encoder equipment; a new hardware purchase is not inherently required. If you are using a microphone or audio interface, identify its input for your operating system and test its levels before the event.
Create the YouTube event and get its ingest details
- Open YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live, and open the Stream tab in Live Control Room.
- Create a new event or select the scheduled stream you intend to use.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that event. Use the RTMPS URL where available; YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted version of RTMP.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: do not include it in a public script, screenshot, repository, or message. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before broadcasting.
The endpoint and key should come from the specific event in Live Control Room. Do not assume an address copied from a generic online example is the right one for your stream.

Choose FFmpeg settings for a podcast
For a straightforward standard-dynamic-range (SDR) stream, a compatibility-first starting point is H.264 video and stereo AAC audio. YouTube’s current encoder guidance also supports H.265/HEVC and AV1, but H.264 is a practical baseline for a simple FFmpeg setup. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), square pixels, progressive scan and Rec. 709 for SDR.
| Output target | YouTube H.264 video bitrate range in current guidance |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps minimum; 17 Mbps recommended |
These are YouTube’s ingest video bitrate figures, transcribed from its encoder settings page accessed on 2026-10-03; the page does not state a publication date. They are not a measurement of the upload speed available on a particular Indian connection. YouTube recommends keeping about 20% upload headroom above the stream bitrate. Measure the actual outbound connection, account for other people or devices using it, and allow for the added traffic if you send a backup stream.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says not to exceed four seconds. At 30 fps, 60 frames between keyframes is two seconds.
- Audio: YouTube’s guidance for stereo is AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Speak at a consistent level and check that the audio does not clip.
- Resolution and frame rate: Choose a target your computer can encode and your measured upload connection can sustain with headroom. For a mostly static podcast, 30 fps is a reasonable starting target; movement such as video clips or a frequently changing picture may affect the choice.
- Encoder availability: The command below uses FFmpeg’s
libx264. If FFmpeg reports that the encoder is missing, that build may not include it. Check the encoders available in your installation or use another supported encoder; do not assume every FFmpeg package includeslibx264.
Send a prerecorded video as the live picture
This example sends a local video file in real time as a 720p, 30 fps live feed, with H.264 video at 4.5 Mbps and stereo AAC at 128 kbps. Replace input.mp4 with your file and replace the output placeholder with the exact RTMPS address and stream key from Live Control Room. Keep the key private.
ffmpeg -re -i input.mp4
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-b:v 4500k -maxrate 4500k -bufsize 9000k
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
-f flv 'RTMPS_URL_WITH_STREAM_KEY_FROM_YOUTUBE'
The GOP setting of 60 frames at 30 fps produces a two-second keyframe interval. The -re option paces a file input in real time; it is not a general requirement for live camera or capture-device sources. FFmpeg’s RTMP protocol documentation shows real-time pacing for file input and FLV output. YouTube’s Live Control Room, rather than a generic example, supplies the event-specific RTMPS address and key.

A direct microphone-and-camera command is not universal: device names, audio backends and capture hardware vary by operating system and setup. First identify the correct FFmpeg input device, then test audio levels and audio/video synchronization. Once the input is correct, apply suitable encoding and output settings for YouTube as above.
Preflight the stream and go live
- Set up the event in advance and start FFmpeg early enough for YouTube’s preview to appear.
- Test representative speech, expected video movement, and any music or other audio you plan to use. Confirm you have the rights needed for all audio and video in the broadcast.
- Check that Live Control Room receives both audio and video, speech is intelligible, and the audio is not clipping. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Compare the stream bitrate plus headroom with measured upload capacity. Shared Wi-Fi or other network activity can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder.
- Inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream health. For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the preview and click Go live in Live Control Room when ready. If possible, check the watch page on a phone or another viewer device.
- Monitor audio, picture and stream health during the podcast. When the event is over, stop the encoder and end the event in YouTube.
Copyright, reused material and archives
Using FFmpeg does not grant permission to use a song, clip, image or other material in a broadcast. Use material you created or have the necessary rights to stream, including music playing in the background. A test should include the same kinds of audio and video planned for the show, rather than only a silent slate.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That platform guidance is not a guarantee of archive retention in every account circumstance. If the recording matters to you, check the event’s archive after the broadcast and keep your own copy where appropriate.

- No preview appears: Confirm FFmpeg is still running, the output uses the exact URL and key for the selected event, and the stream key was not mistyped. Check the encoder’s output for connection errors.
- FFmpeg cannot connect over RTMPS: Verify you copied the RTMPS ingest URL from Live Control Room and that your FFmpeg build supports the required protocol and TLS connection. If the build lacks compatibility, check the available build or use a compatible FFmpeg installation.
- “Encoder not found” for
libx264: Your FFmpeg build may not include that encoder. Inspect the encoders available in the build or select another supported encoder and configure its bitrate, pixel format and keyframes appropriately. - Video is choppy or the stream health warns of instability: Reduce the resolution, frame rate or bitrate, close competing network transfers, and recheck upload capacity with headroom. Software encoding may also exceed the computer’s capacity; a faster preset or a supported hardware encoder can reduce CPU load, though available encoders depend on the system.
- Audio is missing, too quiet or distorted: Check that the intended input device is selected and that FFmpeg receives audio. Adjust the microphone or interface level, then verify speech in the YouTube preview without clipping.
- Audio and picture are out of sync: Recheck the selected capture devices, sample rate and input handling. Test the complete setup before the show; a capture command depends on the actual device and operating system, so there is no single portable command to fix every setup.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube stream that keeps playing uploaded podcast videos without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera.
