No—StreamYard says it does not impose a time limit on a YouTube stream from its end. The commonly cited 12-hour threshold is about YouTube’s automatic replay archive, not a stated cutoff for the live broadcast. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so a long stream can end without a full replay being saved.
Streaming, recording, and archiving are different limits
“How long can I stream?” can refer to three separate things: whether StreamYard stops sending the live broadcast, whether StreamYard records it, and whether YouTube saves a replay. The official guidance treats these separately.

What happens if you use all your StreamYard Free hours while live?
StreamYard says a broadcast already in progress will not be interrupted when the Free plan’s monthly streaming allowance is reached. The limit instead prevents you from starting another broadcast until the allowance resets at the start of the next month.
To check what remains, open Billing > Streaming and recording hours in StreamYard. Allowances are plan terms and may change, so check the current account page before planning a long event.

Will YouTube save a stream longer than 12 hours?
Not necessarily. YouTube’s current help guidance says a stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not treat the 12-hour mark as a guaranteed live-broadcast stop, or assume YouTube will preserve a full replay of a longer session.
Make and verify a backup for a long event
- Arrange a local recording if you need a dependable copy of the full event; YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup.
- Confirm that recording is actually running before the event begins, and check available storage and recording capacity.
- After the broadcast, verify that the local file plays and contains the portion you need. Do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive for a stream longer than 12 hours.
What to check before scheduling an unusually long stream
- Check the current StreamYard help pages for destination limits and plan terms; the absence of a StreamYard YouTube limit is not a guarantee against termination for other reasons.
- If you need StreamYard to record the event, distinguish recording duration from streaming duration. Its documented per-stream maxima are 10 hours on Core and Advanced, and 24 hours on Business; confirm current storage details before relying on them.
- For the Free plan, check the remaining monthly allowance in Billing > Streaming and recording hours. Running out while live does not stop that broadcast, but it blocks a later one until the monthly reset.
- For an event over 12 hours, plan a local recording because YouTube may not capture the replay at all.
