Before you schedule: check YouTube eligibility and your video
Confirm the channel can livestream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its getting-started guidance also says users must be at least 16 to livestream. Check the channel’s eligibility before preparing the event: YouTube live-streaming tips and YouTube’s getting-started guidance.
Prepare a compatible file
StreamYard’s prerecorded-streaming guide specifies an MP4 file with H.264 video encoding and a maximum upload bitrate of 10 Mbps. Its guide lists playback up to 1080p on paid plans. Check the current requirements and your plan’s limits in StreamYard’s Pre-recorded Streaming guide before uploading.
Schedule a prerecorded YouTube broadcast in StreamYard
- Open the prerecorded workflow: In StreamYard, choose Create → Live Stream → Pre-recorded video.
- Choose the video: Select Upload to pick an MP4 from your computer, or select a past StreamYard broadcast or recording.
- Select YouTube: Choose the YouTube destination for the broadcast. If the channel is not connected yet, follow StreamYard’s destination setup guidance: Schedule a YouTube Live Stream.
- Enter event details: Add the title and description, then set the date and time the prerecorded broadcast should begin.
- Choose whether to schedule an announcement post: If viewers need the YouTube watch link in advance, schedule an announcement post. StreamYard says the link is created when that post is scheduled. Without an announcement post, the watch-page link is not available until the prerecorded stream goes live.
- Create and verify the broadcast: Create the scheduled broadcast and check its status in StreamYard. At the scheduled time, playback starts automatically; it ends when the video finishes.
Check plan limits before scheduling
StreamYard’s current help guide lists these prerecorded-stream limits. They are plan-specific product limits, not YouTube-wide limits; confirm the current values on the guide because plan features can change.

What the automated broadcast can—and cannot—do
This is scheduled playback of a finished file, not a live StreamYard studio session. The broadcast runs without you operating the studio, so overlays and other media assets cannot be controlled during playback. Viewers’ comments remain visible on YouTube, but StreamYard says they cannot be shown on-stream for this automated broadcast. Prerecorded streams are no longer automatically saved to the StreamYard library, so keep your source video if you need your own copy.

StreamYard prerecorded scheduling vs. a YouTube encoder
| Question | StreamYard prerecorded video | YouTube encoder workflow |
|---|---|---|
| What goes live? | A completed uploaded file or past StreamYard recording. | A live feed sent by an encoder. |
| How does it start? | Schedule the file; it starts automatically at the chosen time, even if you are offline. | Configure the encoder with YouTube’s server URL and stream key, start the encoder, and check the preview in Live Control Room. |
| Can you control studio elements during playback? | No studio-controlled overlays or on-stream comments during the automated broadcast. | The encoder workflow sends an outgoing feed; follow YouTube’s encoder setup and preview steps. |
| Best fit | A finished video that should play automatically on a schedule. | A feed produced and sent by an encoder. |
YouTube’s encoder instructions describe a separate method: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. That method uses a server URL and stream key in encoder settings, followed by starting the encoder and checking the Live Control Room preview. A stream key is not a step in StreamYard’s documented prerecorded-file workflow.
Copyright, archives, and practical checks
- Confirm you have rights to the video and its audio. A scheduled prerecorded broadcast is still a YouTube livestream; using a file does not make copyrighted material safe to broadcast. Review YouTube’s current livestream guidance and any rights or restrictions that apply to your content before scheduling.
- Check the whole runtime against your plan. A file that exceeds the plan’s listed maximum length or upload size will not fit the documented limits.
- Keep a local copy. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and recommends recording a local archive as backup. Streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not rely on YouTube to preserve a longer broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder and archiving guidance.
- Make time for the audience link. If you want to share the watch page before playback, schedule an announcement post; otherwise the link appears when the prerecorded stream goes live.
Troubleshooting a scheduled prerecorded stream
The upload is rejected or does not meet requirements
Check that the file is MP4 with H.264 video encoding, that its bitrate is no more than 10 Mbps, and that its size and runtime fit your plan’s stated limits. If the file still fails, consult StreamYard’s prerecorded-streaming requirements.

The YouTube destination is unavailable
Verify that the intended YouTube channel is connected in StreamYard and that YouTube has enabled livestreaming for it. Channel verification and restrictions from the prior 90 days can affect eligibility. Review StreamYard’s YouTube scheduling instructions and YouTube’s livestream eligibility guidance.
You cannot find a watch-page link before the event
That is expected if you did not schedule an announcement post. StreamYard says the link is created at the announcement-post time; without one, it becomes available when the prerecorded broadcast goes live.

The stream does not show an overlay or viewers’ comments
These are limitations of the automated prerecorded workflow, not necessarily a setup error. Overlays and on-stream comments cannot be controlled or displayed in this broadcast mode; comments remain on the destination platform.
