In OBS Studio, add a VLC Video source, load your audio files, and enable Loop Playlist if the set should repeat. This keeps playback moving within the live output, but OBS’s documented controls do not promise gapless joins or audio crossfades—test your actual files and song boundaries before going live.
For Indian music, settle the rights question before building the playlist: permission must cover the specific recordings and the planned live broadcast, territories, and monetization. A consumer subscription for listening is not evidence of rebroadcast permission.
How do I switch songs without ending the live stream?
Use a playlist as a media source inside a stable scene. When one item ends, the playlist can advance to the next while OBS continues sending the same scene and encoder output to YouTube. You do not need to change scenes for every song.
- Install VLC on the computer running OBS; OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source. Open OBS and select the scene that will carry the stream.
- In the Sources dock, select + and choose VLC Video. Give the source a clear name, such as “Music playlist.”
- In the source properties, add the audio or video files in the order you want them to play. OBS supports media formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, WAV, MP4, MOV, and MKV, among others. Compatibility depends on the files and the system setup, so confirm each track plays correctly rather than treating the format list as a guarantee.
- Enable Loop Playlist if the list should start again after its final item. Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want randomized order instead of the sequence you arranged.
- Keep this source in the scene used for the stream, and leave the scene and encoder output running as the playlist advances. Add a still image, visualizer, or other permitted visual if the broadcast needs more than a static background; confirm any added material is also cleared for use.
OBS documents playlist playback, looping, and shuffling in its Media Sources guide. These controls describe how the playlist advances; they do not establish that adjacent files will join without a silence, click, or other audible boundary.

How can I make song transitions sound and look smoother?
Check the audio joins, not just the playlist settings
There is no documented OBS VLC playlist setting in the cited guide that guarantees a per-track audio crossfade or gapless playback. A scene transition is not an audio crossfade. Listen to the actual first-to-second track change and other likely problem boundaries, including the final-to-first join when looping. If a pause or abrupt change is audible, adjust the source files or prepare transitions in an audio editor before importing them; do not assume that enabling Loop Playlist will fix it.
Check levels across tracks as well. A playlist can contain songs with noticeably different loudness or peaks. Listen at the same monitoring level you expect to use during the stream, watch OBS’s audio meters, and correct problematic files or source levels before the broadcast. Avoid relying on quieter playback to solve copyright matching: lowering volume does not grant permission or reliably prevent a match.

Use scene transitions only for visual changes
OBS’s built-in Fade and Cut transitions change between scenes, and their duration can be adjusted. Use them when changing the on-screen visual—for example, from a title card to a permitted background—not as a method of blending one song’s audio into the next. The OBS Studio Overview Guide describes scene transitions, not playlist-audio crossfades.
What should I test before leaving an Indian music stream on?
Run a private or unlisted technical rehearsal using the files and settings intended for the broadcast. The point is to find faults in your particular setup; playlist documentation is not a guarantee that every system handles every file cleanly.

- Play through the first-to-second track boundary and a few other transitions. Listen for silence, clipped starts, clicks, or large volume jumps.
- Let the playlist reach its final item. If looping is enabled, confirm that it restarts as expected and inspect the end-to-first join.
- Check that every file plays from the intended start and that the audio is audible in the stream output, not only through local monitoring.
- Watch the OBS audio meters for unexpected peaks, and listen for distortion or imbalance.
- Confirm the selected scene remains active and the encoder stays connected while tracks advance.
- Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream health during the rehearsal; verify that the live output contains the intended picture and sound.
Can I play Indian film songs, bhajans, or other protected music on a YouTube live stream?
Only if you have the rights or permission required for the specific recordings and the planned use. For Indian film music, a song may involve rights in both the composition and the particular sound recording; ownership, licensing, territory, and permitted uses can differ. Confirm that permission covers a live YouTube broadcast, the territories where viewers may watch, and monetization if you plan to monetize. Do not assume that buying a track or subscribing to a music service grants broadcast rights.
YouTube for Artists recommends that music channels planning to use copyright-protected music coordinate with their label or distributor. Its guidance is available in Going live for music channels. If a label or distributor is not the relevant rights contact, obtain documentation from the appropriate rights holders or a licensing provider and verify the scope for your actual catalogue and use. A generic licence should not be assumed to cover every Indian catalogue, territory, or monetized live use.

YouTube explains that live Content ID matching can escalate: a match may first prompt a warning, then replace the stream with a static image and no sound, and may ultimately lead to stream termination if matching continues. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days to enable live streaming. Check eligibility and configure the event in YouTube Live Control Room before you rely on the stream. For this playlist workflow, make the OBS output and YouTube preview agree before leaving the stream unattended: verify the selected scene, confirm the playlist is audible, and check that the encoder is connected. A playlist can keep changing its media item while the scene remains in output, but it cannot itself correct a disconnected encoder or an ineligible channel.
