You can run a rain-sounds YouTube livestream from OBS, but a single uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast is not a reliable way to create a complete replay: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use OBS to encode a rights-cleared scene and audio, YouTube Live Control Room to start the broadcast, and test the actual upload connection at the place you will stream from. If you need archives, schedule separate sessions shorter than 12 hours and keep a local recording as a backup.
What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions within the preceding 90 days. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements apply regardless of whether you are streaming from India or elsewhere.
- OBS Studio, which is free and open-source according to OBS’s help portal.
- A rain recording and visual that you own or are explicitly licensed to use for livestreaming and any intended commercial use.
- A stable upload connection, with enough capacity for the selected output bitrate plus headroom for normal network variation.
YouTube’s official guidance does not identify a special OBS setting for India. Actual upload reliability depends on your location, provider and shared network load, so measure and test where the computer will run.
Configure and start the stream
- Check livestream access. Sign in to the channel and confirm it is verified and eligible to livestream, with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. If livestreaming is not enabled, resolve that before building the OBS scene.
- Create the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the stream.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select the YouTube/RTMPS service if available, and enter the stream key (and server URL if OBS asks for it). Treat the key like a password: do not show it in screenshots, recordings or public posts.
- Build the rain scene. Add an image or video using OBS’s Sources controls, then add the rain audio as a media source or other suitable audio input. Keep the scene visually stable or gently moving, and confirm the audio meter responds without clipping or unwanted silence. Use a loopable source if the media is shorter than the planned session.
- Set output resolution and bitrate. In Settings > Video, choose the output resolution and frame rate the scene needs. In Settings > Output, configure the encoder and bitrate. YouTube’s current H.264 encoder guide recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. These are platform recommendations, not a promise that an individual connection can sustain them. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube specifies CBR and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. See YouTube’s encoder settings guide.
- Test at the intended location. Check outbound upload speed rather than relying on download speed alone. Leave headroom, pause bandwidth-heavy household activity where practical, start the OBS encoder, and inspect the incoming preview and stream health in Live Control Room. Check audio and visual continuity before making the broadcast public. YouTube recommends a reliable network and monitoring stream health; a speed test by itself cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. YouTube’s streaming troubleshooting guidance covers connection and stream-health issues.
- Go live and monitor. Start streaming in OBS and confirm that the preview appears in Live Control Room. Then use the control room to start the public stream. Check the public watch page, audio, stream health and any local recording after launch.
Choose session length around the archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; it recommends keeping a local archive as backup. A continuous 24/7 broadcast therefore cannot be relied on to produce a complete YouTube replay. If replay availability matters, divide the schedule into distinct sessions shorter than 12 hours and record locally when disk space allows. Shorter sessions improve the chance of an archive but do not guarantee that every stream will be retained. See YouTube’s live-stream archive help.
YouTube’s explanation published August 12, 2026 says qualified watch hours can come from public long-form videos and archived livestreams; unarchived livestreams do not count. That does not promise monetization, eligibility or earnings for a particular channel. Plan for both archive retention and the channel’s applicable YouTube Partner Program requirements. Keep rain audio and visuals rights-safe
Do not assume that rain sounds or footage found online are free to rebroadcast. Use your own recordings or confirm that a license explicitly covers livestreaming and your intended use; retain the source, license and permission records. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A stream may be interrupted even when you have a license if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID. Read YouTube’s guidance on live-stream content matching and ask the rights holder about allowlisting when relevant.
India-specific reliability choices
Test from the actual streaming location and at a representative time: a result from another city, network or hour may not reflect the connection under your real conditions. Shared household traffic can reduce available upload capacity. A wired Ethernet link is an optional way to avoid some local Wi-Fi instability, but it cannot fix an unreliable ISP connection. A UPS may bridge brief power interruptions if it is sized for the computer and router load; it is not a solution for a long outage. Provider plans, product models and current local prices depend on location and were not established here.

Troubleshooting common failures
- Live Control Room does not receive video: Check that OBS is streaming, the correct server and stream key are entered, and the key belongs to the current YouTube stream. Replace a key if it has been exposed.
- Preview buffers or stream health degrades: Lower bitrate or output resolution, check upload capacity and household network load, and use Ethernet if practical. Re-test before returning to public streaming.
- Audio is missing or cuts out: Confirm the intended source is active in OBS, its audio meter moves, and the source is set to loop if needed. Listen to the Live Control Room preview and public watch page rather than relying only on OBS meters.
- YouTube interrupts the stream for a content match: Identify the matched material in YouTube’s notice, stop using it unless the rights are cleared, and contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting if you hold a valid license.
- The broadcast has no complete replay: A session longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use shorter sessions for future broadcasts and enable a local recording with enough available disk space.
- A power cut stops OBS: A UPS can help only for brief outages and only when its capacity covers the connected load. Longer interruptions require restoring power and restarting the encoder and stream.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer and home connection running around the clock, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud option for uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud loops the video; no PC, OBS or home internet connection has to stay on. It offers one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, without re-encoding or quality tiers, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required (one free day per account). The Monthly price is $9.99 per month. Review StreamNeo, then start the free day.
