For a YouTube replay, plan shorter broadcasts under 12 hours and keep a local recording as backup. OBS sends the stream; YouTube controls its live matching, archiving and replay availability.
Before you stream: clear every relevant music right
“Folk” describes a tradition, not a blanket permission to broadcast a recording. A traditional melody, a modern arrangement, a particular recording and a performer’s rendition may have different rights. Check the rights for the exact material you plan to use, in the territories where it will be available, and confirm that permission covers both live streaming and any replay or local archive you plan to publish.
YouTube’s Livestream Terms and Conditions place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including applicable music licensing rights and territorial approvals. If you use copyright-protected music, YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor.
Permission by itself may not prevent an interruption. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can trigger a warning, a placeholder, interruption or termination. YouTube says licensed material can still cause a live interruption if the rights owner has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the rights holder or its administrator about allowlisting where applicable, keep written permissions accessible, and do not assume a track is cleared without confirmation. Choose a broadcast schedule that preserves replays
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube also recommends keeping a local archive backup. A 24-hour continuous broadcast therefore cannot be relied on to produce a complete YouTube replay.

If replay preservation matters, make each planned segment comfortably shorter than 12 hours rather than aiming at the threshold, and record locally as a separate backup. Shorter segments are a practical choice based on YouTube’s stated archive limit, not a guarantee that every stream will be archived.

Set up OBS and connect it to YouTube
- Enable live streaming in advance. YouTube for Artists says first-time streamers should verify their account and enable livestreaming at least 24 hours before going live. Confirm access in YouTube’s current live interface rather than relying on older interface instructions.
- Prepare the audio and visuals. In OBS, add the authorized music source or playlist and the visuals you intend to show. Check that the audio plays through the expected OBS source and that the on-screen content, stream title and description accurately represent the broadcast.
- Create a stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Open YouTube’s Live Control Room and create or select the broadcast. Follow the current YouTube encoder instructions: select YouTube in the encoder if that option is offered, or use YouTube’s Live server URL.
- Copy the stream key into OBS. Enter the key in OBS’s stream settings along with the server information if needed. Treat the key like an account credential: do not post or share it, and reset it through YouTube if it is exposed.
- Configure and start sending from OBS. Use the resolution and bitrate OBS recommends for your real upload connection, then start streaming to send the encoder feed. Wait for YouTube’s preview and status indicators in Live Control Room before making the broadcast public.
- Run a private or unlisted test. YouTube for Artists recommends testing an unlisted stream before the go-live date. Check the loop, sound, stream status, visuals, title and description. An unlisted test checks the technical path; it does not establish that music rights are cleared.
YouTube and OBS may change interface labels, so use the current controls in Live Control Room and OBS rather than assuming an older guide’s screen layout still applies. The stream key is the essential credential connecting OBS to the broadcast; protect it accordingly.
Configure OBS for a stable music stream
There is no single bitrate or resolution that fits every connection and video source. OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can help set basic options. Choose settings that your sustained upload capacity can support, not just the peak speed shown by a brief speed test. If the video is a static image or simple visual loop, a high resolution may not add much value to the viewer while still increasing the data OBS must send.

- Resolution and frame rate: Set these to suit the source visuals and available upload capacity. Avoid choosing a higher output than the content needs.
- Video bitrate: Start with OBS’s recommended configuration and monitor the stream. A bitrate that exceeds sustained upload capacity can cause dropped frames and instability.
- Keyframe interval and encoder options: Follow the current YouTube encoder guidance and the settings exposed by your chosen OBS encoder. Do not copy a number from an old setup guide without checking that it matches the current YouTube requirements and your encoder.
- Audio: Confirm that the music is routed to the stream mix and that no unintended microphone or desktop audio is being included. Listen during the unlisted test.
- Network: A wired connection is one option to consider if the connection is unstable; it is not a guaranteed fix. Monitor OBS and the YouTube preview while the stream is running.
Fix common OBS and YouTube problems
OBS dropped frames keep increasing
OBS says a rising “Dropped frames” counter can mean the connection to the server is unstable or cannot sustain the selected bitrate. Reduce the bitrate or output settings to match the connection, then check for network instability. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance points users to the Auto-Configuration Wizard for basic settings. A wired connection may be worth trying, but it cannot guarantee a stable stream.
YouTube does not show a preview or incoming stream
Check that OBS is sending to the correct YouTube server and that the stream key matches the broadcast in Live Control Room. Verify OBS reports that it is streaming and give YouTube time to register the incoming feed before publishing. If the key may have been shared, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.

The stream is warned, interrupted or stopped
A third-party content match may be responsible. Check YouTube’s alert and the relevant rights documentation. If the music is licensed, contact the rights holder about whether the channel needs Content ID allowlisting; having a license does not necessarily prevent an automated live interruption.
The 24-hour stream has no complete replay
YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For future broadcasts, schedule shorter segments and save a local recording. Neither segmentation nor a local file guarantees that YouTube will publish a replay, but the local copy gives you a separate archive to manage.
