Yes. You can reuse the same YouTube stream key in OBS and FFmpeg, for example by using one encoder for one stream and the other at a different time. That does not mean YouTube supports two independent encoders sending competing feeds to the same broadcast at once. YouTube does not document that behavior, so use one active sender per broadcast unless you have tested your exact setup.
What a YouTube stream key does
A stream key is the credential your encoder uses to send video to YouTube; YouTube describes it as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep it private. Your encoder also needs the stream URL, which tells it where to send the feed. YouTube’s setup instructions say to enter the URL in the encoder’s server field and the key in its stream-key field. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain this configuration.
You can create a custom key in YouTube Studio and reuse it. In practice, that means you can configure the same key in OBS and FFmpeg and choose which encoder to run for a given broadcast.
Sequential reuse versus simultaneous encoders
| Scenario | What is established | Practical approach |
|---|---|---|
| Use OBS for one broadcast and FFmpeg for a later one | A custom YouTube stream key can be reused. | Enter the selected stream’s URL and key in whichever encoder you are using, and run one sender for the broadcast. |
| Run OBS and FFmpeg simultaneously to the same broadcast | YouTube’s documentation does not specify whether competing independent feeds are accepted, rejected, or whether one replaces the other. | Treat the behavior as unverified; do not rely on both encoders pushing at once. |
| Use FFmpeg as an OBS backup | The published active-stream limit does not establish seamless encoder failover. | Test the precise handoff on a private or otherwise suitable test broadcast before depending on it. |
| Send one feed to separate broadcasts | A broadcast is a distinct event/video, separate from the stream used for delivery. Google’s API documentation describes one stream being bound to multiple broadcasts, but does not describe competing encoders. | Set up and verify the intended broadcasts and bindings; do not infer that two independent feeds can share one ingest connection. |
What YouTube’s stream limits mean
YouTube Help, accessed in 2026, states that a channel may have up to 10 active streams and that a stream key may have up to 3 active streams. Those are platform limits, not confirmation that multiple encoder processes can push different feeds to the same broadcast. The distinction matters: a stream is a delivery configuration, while a broadcast is a separate live event/video. Google’s Live Streaming API documentation says one stream can be bound to up to three broadcasts; that is not evidence for dual-encoder ingest or automatic backup behavior.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Set up OBS or FFmpeg with the same key
- In YouTube Studio: open the intended live setup in the Live Control Room and copy the stream URL and stream key for the selected configuration. Use the endpoint shown there rather than guessing one.
- In OBS: open the streaming settings, select the YouTube destination or configure the provided server, then enter the stream key. Keep the key private.
- In FFmpeg: configure the output destination with the YouTube ingest endpoint and provide the key as required by your chosen workflow. The official sources here establish the general encoder setup but do not provide an officially tested FFmpeg command, so use the endpoint and protocol specified for your stream instead of treating a guessed command as authoritative.
- Before going live: confirm the intended broadcast, endpoint, and active encoder. If switching from OBS to FFmpeg (or back), stop the first sender before starting the second unless you are deliberately testing simultaneous behavior.
Prefer RTMPS where supported
YouTube recommends RTMPS. Check that your selected encoder supports it and that the server URL matches the one supplied in the Live Control Room. If the connection fails, verify both the endpoint and RTMPS support before changing unrelated settings. See YouTube’s connection troubleshooting guidance.

Troubleshooting
- The encoder will not connect: check that the stream URL and key belong to the intended setup, and that the server field contains the URL rather than the key. Confirm RTMPS support if you are using YouTube’s recommended protocol.
- The wrong broadcast receives the feed: verify the broadcast selected in YouTube Studio and the stream configuration bound to it. A stream key alone does not identify which broadcast you intend to use.
- OBS and FFmpeg interfere when both run: YouTube does not document the outcome for two independent senders targeting one broadcast. Stop one sender and test any proposed simultaneous or backup arrangement on a private or otherwise appropriate test broadcast.
- You expect automatic backup switching: do not assume that sharing a key creates failover. The published active-stream limit does not specify how competing encoders are handled.
- You want separate simultaneous videos: treat each broadcast as its own event/video and check the stream-to-broadcast configuration. The API’s multiple-broadcast binding concept does not establish that separate encoder feeds can compete for one key.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running without leaving OBS, FFmpeg, or a home computer on, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly price is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
