First determine whether the mismatch stays the same, grows over time, or appears only in YouTube playback. A steady offset can usually be corrected by adjusting the affected source’s sync setting in OBS; growing drift needs investigation of clocks, timestamps, and source stability instead. Test the finished stream, not just the OBS preview: a stream can reach viewers late while its audio and video remain in sync.
Test the stream and locate where sync breaks
Use a representative test before changing settings. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” (YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.) If possible, use a private or unlisted test so you can inspect the platform playback without disrupting viewers.
- Make a local recording of the stream output and, if available, a private or unlisted platform test.
- Include a repeatable visual event paired with a distinct sound, such as a clap or a planned visual marker and audio cue.
- Check the same cue near the beginning and later in a representative run. Note whether the difference is constant or grows.
- Record the encoder or software version, platform, audio sample rate and channel format, audio route, video source, and when the mismatch appears.
Compare the local recording with platform playback. The OBS preview alone may not represent what viewers receive; an OBS forum report describes a case where the preview appeared synced but YouTube playback differed. That is an example of a possible difference in the delivery path, not evidence that YouTube is the cause in every setup.
Classify the mismatch before changing settings
- The same offset at the start and later: This points toward a stable timing difference. Measure it and correct the affected source.
- Aligned at first, increasingly out of sync later: Treat this as drift. Investigate source clocks, timestamps, sample-rate configuration, reconnects, and encoder timing rather than repeatedly changing a fixed offset. A 24/7 streaming guide identifies different audio and encoder clocks as one possible cause of hours-long drift, not a diagnosis of your setup.
- Local recording is aligned, but platform playback is not: Inspect the encoded and delivered path, check platform stream health, and repeat the comparison using the same cue.
- Picture and sound are both late by the same amount: That is overall stream latency, not an audio/video sync mismatch. Latency describes how late the combined picture-and-sound package reaches viewers; sync describes whether the two match each other.
Correct a stable offset in OBS
Change the source that is actually out of sync, using the measured result rather than a generic millisecond value. OBS documents source sync offset in Advanced Audio Properties and a Render Delay video filter for delaying a video source.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open Advanced Audio Properties and identify the audio source that reaches the stream.
- Adjust that source’s Sync Offset. A positive value delays audio. If sound happens before the matching picture, a positive audio offset may bring them together. If sound follows the picture, the correction may require moving audio forward with a negative value or delaying video instead.
- Make one measured change, keep a note of the previous value, and repeat the same recording or platform test.
- If an obvious test adjustment has no effect, confirm that you changed the source actually reaching the stream. Multiple audio routes or sources can make it easy to adjust the wrong one.
Kick’s support article gives 100–400 ms as a typical range for its own OBS offset guidance. That is platform-specific context, not a universal target for YouTube or a prescription for a kirtan stream.
Investigate drift rather than masking it
A static offset compensates for a stable difference; the cited guidance does not establish that it fixes a difference that keeps changing. Before adding a fixed offset, compare the local output with delivered playback and check for changes in source timing, reconnects, or encoder behavior.

- Check whether audio and video use different clocks or timing paths.
- Confirm the audio sample-rate configuration is consistent throughout the chain.
- Note whether drift begins after a source reconnect or encoder interruption.
- Check the platform’s stream-health information and repeat the same cue comparison later in the run.
A third-party 24/7 streaming guide suggests FFmpeg audio-sync correction for a radio source whose clock differs from the encoder. Consider that only as a possible workflow for an FFmpeg-based system; validate it against the installed FFmpeg version and the actual source behavior. Do not copy a command-line flag into an OBS setup without confirming that it applies.
Check audio format for the platform
Format requirements are platform-specific. YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio over RTMP/RTMPS, with 44.1 kHz for stereo and 48 kHz for 5.1 surround sound. Check the current YouTube encoder settings guidance for the stream configuration you use.

Kick’s help article instead states a stereo requirement and a maximum 48 kHz sample rate for Kick. Do not apply that platform’s specification to YouTube or another service. Changing sample rate or channel configuration without checking the destination can introduce a new problem rather than solve the existing one.
Check hardware and routing only after isolating the path
If the timing difference follows a separate audio interface, mixer, capture card, or duplicated audio route, test that source and route independently. Examples in OBS forum discussions and streaming guides show that separate audio-interface and video-capture paths can be relevant to diagnosis, but they do not establish a general hardware defect or make replacement necessary.

- Compare the audio source and video/capture source independently where possible.
- Check for duplicate audio routes that may add delay or make the wrong source appear to be at fault.
- Change or bypass one component at a time, then repeat the same test cue.
- Consider replacement only if testing isolates the fault to a device; new hardware is not the first troubleshooting step.
Or let it run in the cloud
