An ordinary YouTube upload does not become a live broadcast by itself. Label the stream clearly as prerecorded, keep listing details current, and confirm that your channel is eligible before scheduling.
Prepare the tour videos before you stream
Start with footage you have permission to broadcast, including the tour video, voiceover, music, and any identifiable people or private spaces. The YouTube policy obligation is broad: “All content in live streams must adhere to our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.” YouTube may age-restrict or remove a stream, or restrict a creator’s ability to live stream. The cited policy does not resolve real-estate permissions or local privacy law, so confirm those separately rather than assuming a listing’s public availability grants broadcast rights. - Remove or update stale prices, availability, contact information, and other details that could mislead a viewer.
- Use a landscape master suited to a standard horizontal YouTube player, then preview the whole cut, including its opening and ending, for a clean repeat.
- For multiple listings, arrange tours in a deliberate playlist. Identify each property and use short transitions that say the footage is prerecorded and direct viewers to current listing details.
- Check that captions, on-screen text, and contact details remain readable at the resolution you plan to send.
These are production recommendations, not requirements established by YouTube’s encoder pages. A continuous prerecorded channel is not a live agent-led tour: don’t imply real-time interaction or current availability unless someone is actually handling viewers live and keeping the information up to date.
Check channel eligibility and create the Live broadcast
YouTube’s live-streaming help page says the channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check eligibility before announcing a start time; do not assume a channel can go live immediately. YouTube: Get started with live streaming

- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup flow to create or schedule the broadcast.
- Set an accurate title and description, choose the privacy setting, and schedule if needed. Make clear that viewers are watching a prerecorded real-estate tour loop, not a live property walkthrough.
- Choose the encoder connection method offered in the current Live Control Room flow. YouTube’s setup details can change; follow its current help and on-screen instructions rather than relying on a remembered menu path.
- If using a stream key, copy it from YouTube into the encoder’s YouTube RTMPS service configuration. Treat the key like a password: never show it in a screen capture, publish it, or send it to anyone who does not need it.
YouTube documents encoder streaming, but its reviewed guidance does not promise a maximum uninterrupted duration or settle how long an archive will remain available for this use case. Do not advertise either as guaranteed. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance
Loop the video with OBS
With a local setup, your computer runs the encoder and plays the tour source. OBS-specific controls can vary by version, so verify the loop control in the version you have installed. - In OBS, configure YouTube as the streaming service, select RTMPS when available, and enter the stream key from Live Control Room. Alternatively, use a supported account connection if the current setup offers it.
- Add the tour file as a media source, or arrange the files as a playlist/source sequence. Enable the source’s loop or repeat behavior and check how the current OBS version handles the end of a file and transitions between items.
- Start the encoder feed, then check YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream-health status before treating the broadcast as live to viewers.
- For a scheduled start or unattended running, test the complete path with a short private or unlisted trial. Confirm the encoder starts when expected, loops correctly, and stops only when intended; auto-start and auto-stop behavior depends on the settings in use.
The YouTube pages reviewed here do not document the exact OBS media-source loop control. If your OBS version does not loop reliably, use its current documentation or choose another verified playback arrangement rather than assuming YouTube will repeat a file for you.
Choose encoder settings your connection can sustain
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS and recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. Supported video codecs include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; audio can be AAC or MP3. YouTube recommends CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds), and up to 60 fps. Test the stream and monitor it while it runs
YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast, then watching stream-health messages during the stream. A real-estate tour should be checked for more than a moving picture: inspect property text and contact details, audio levels, transitions, framing, and whether the loop returns cleanly to its opening. - Watch the Live Control Room preview before promoting the stream.
- Listen for missing, distorted, or unexpectedly loud audio; verify the licensed soundtrack is present as intended.
- Check that room details, captions, and listing identifiers are not cropped or too small to read.
- Assign someone—or a clear monitoring plan—to respond to playback failure, rights complaints, stale listing information, and viewer chat.
Choose local looping or cloud playout
These are different operating models, not different YouTube broadcast types. With a local encoder, the computer, source files, and stable upload connection must remain available, and someone needs a plan to monitor them. Hosted playout moves playback and encoding to a service, subject to that service’s capabilities and terms. Troubleshoot common problems
