Sony named Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first games adding QSSR as an optional graphics setting. Sony says it can improve image detail and stability, but its announcement includes no measured image-quality or performance results.
What is QSSR on PS5?
QSSR stands for Quick Spectral Super Resolution. Sony describes it as an evolution of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), its AI upscaling technology for PS5 Pro. Sony says PSSR analyzes game images pixel by pixel and uses AI to upscale them; QSSR is designed as a faster performance tier for the standard PS5.
According to Sony, QSSR uses a streamlined neural network architecture and a hand-tuned implementation intended to make this kind of upscaling practical on PS5. Sony says the technology grew out of Project Amethyst, its AI graphics collaboration with AMD. It has not published technical details such as network size, internal rendering resolution, GPU cost, or a target frame rate.
Which games support QSSR?
Sony named two initial games in its October 1 announcement and said both were being patched that day to add QSSR as an additional graphics option:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Marvel’s Wolverine
- Ghost of Yōtei
That was Sony’s rollout statement; it does not establish that the update reached every player in every territory at the same moment. For Ghost of Yōtei, Sucker Punch separately said version 2.0 was available by patch on October 1 globally and October 2 in some territories, including Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Its post says an internet connection and PlayStation account are required to download that patch. The [Sucker Punch update post](https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/12/ghost-of-yotei-complete-edition-comes-to-ps5-october-1/) lists other additions but does not mention QSSR.
Sony says QSSR will be offered broadly to PlayStation developers, but its announcement does not name other supported games. Availability for future titles should therefore be treated as planned developer access, not confirmed compatibility.

Is QSSR available on the regular PS5?
Yes. Sony announced QSSR for PS5, with the first named games adding it as an optional graphics setting through updates. It is distinct from PSSR, which Sony positions as its higher-end upscaling option for PS5 Pro and calls the “gold standard.” Sony has not claimed that QSSR and PSSR deliver identical image quality across the two consoles.
The announcement describes QSSR as a game-update feature, not a paid add-on or a requirement to buy an accessory or PS5 Pro. The available information does not specify one universal menu path for selecting the option; check each supported game’s graphics settings after installing its update.

Does QSSR make PS5 games look better?
Sony says QSSR improves image detail and stability. The developers of the first two games also describe benefits, but these are studio perspectives rather than independent measurements. Insomniac Games’ Mike Fitzgerald said QSSR adds “more pixel-level clarity and stability” to environments in Marvel’s Wolverine. Sucker Punch’s Jasmin Patry said it resolves fine details in characters and environments with temporal stability not previously possible on PS5.
Sony’s announcement provides no quantified before-and-after comparison, resolution, frame-rate, latency, or image-quality test. It supports reporting the claimed benefits, but not a numerical improvement or a guarantee that every scene will look better.
