If YouTube live streams fail on BSNL broadband, first compare the same stream on another device and connection. That helps narrow the issue to the stream, device, Wi-Fi/router, or BSNL connection—but it does not by itself prove BSNL is at fault. Then check sustained speed, lower playback quality, and test whether other services are affected before changing router settings or contacting support.
First, work out what is failing
Note the exact on-screen message and when it appears. YouTube lists generic errors such as “Connection to server lost” and “Playback error. Tap to retry”; there is no distinct official BSNL-specific error established here. See YouTube’s video-error troubleshooting.
- Retry and test another stream. Reload the page or reopen the app, then try a different live stream. If only one stream fails, the issue may be limited to that stream or live programme.
- Try another device on the same BSNL connection. If it works elsewhere, focus first on the failing device, app, or browser.
- Try the same device on another connection. Mobile data is one option; be mindful of data charges. If it works on mobile data but not BSNL, the problem is somewhere along the home-network or ISP path. This comparison does not distinguish Wi-Fi, router/ONT, local congestion, routing, or an ISP fault.
- Check other services. If several devices or non-YouTube services also fail, record that pattern for BSNL rather than treating it as a YouTube-only problem.
YouTube recommends testing a different internet connection and checking whether shared network use reduces the speed available to your device (YouTube Help).
Check speed and lower the playback quality
Run a speed test near the device you are using. If possible, test while household traffic is quiet, and note what happens during the failure as well. A speed test is only a snapshot: it cannot establish connection stability, packet loss, or a route-specific problem.

YouTube Help gives these approximate sustained-speed recommendations for video playback; the page does not state a publication year. They are guidance figures, not guarantees for every live event or a diagnosis of BSNL service.

In YouTube’s playback settings, select a lower quality temporarily and see whether the error stops. If lower quality helps, that is useful evidence that available bandwidth or connection conditions may be involved; it does not identify the cause by itself. Separate Wi-Fi trouble from the broadband path
Before buying equipment or changing router settings, try simple comparisons:
- Move closer to the router and reduce obstructions between it and the device.
- Temporarily pause downloads and other high-bandwidth activity on the network.
- If the devices have compatible Ethernet ports, compare playback over a wired connection. This is an optional diagnostic test, not a required purchase. If wired playback works while Wi-Fi does not, that points toward the Wi-Fi link; Ethernet will not repair a YouTube-side or ISP-side fault.
YouTube advises improving router range, reducing interference, and minimizing use by other connected devices when speed is low. It also notes that congestion and other factors can affect live programming or delay a stream even when the connection seems good. Refresh the app, browser, or device
In a browser
- Reload the stream, then close and reopen the browser.
- Update the browser if an update is available.
- Test with extensions disabled, or in a private window, to check whether an extension is interfering.
- If the issue persists, clear cache and cookies when appropriate.
In the YouTube app or on a TV
- Close and reopen YouTube.
- Check for YouTube app and device-system updates.
- Restart the device.
If the error remains, inspect the network’s DNS settings and check whether a third-party app changed the preferred DNS servers. YouTube recommends checking DNS configuration, but does not name a public DNS address as a BSNL-specific remedy. Changing DNS, disabling IPv6, changing MTU or router mode, or using a VPN is not an established universal fix. Avoid changing several settings at once; if you make a change, understand how to restore the original setting. See YouTube’s video-error troubleshooting.

- Date and time, including whether the problem seems limited to busy periods.
- Your city or area and BSNL service type, such as FTTH/Bharat Fiber or another broadband service.
- Which YouTube streams, devices, and non-YouTube services are affected.
- Speed-test results and the playback-quality setting when the error occurred.
- Whether Wi-Fi, wired Ethernet, and another connection behave differently.
- Your router/ONT model and any settings you changed, if known.
