Use the radio automation system as your audio source and a YouTube-compatible encoder as the delivery layer. Route the automation system’s output into the encoder, enter the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, then check the Live Control Room preview. For a scheduled broadcast, you must also click Go live in Live Control Room.
How the radio-to-YouTube setup works
The automation system plays or schedules the station audio; the encoder packages that audio, optionally with video, and sends it to YouTube Live. YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room creates or schedules the broadcast, supplies the connection details, and shows whether the encoder feed is arriving.
- Radio automation: plays tracks, jingles, voiceovers, and other station audio. RadioDJ, for example, documents Auto DJ, event scheduling, and multiple sound-device outputs. RadioDJ features.
- Encoder: receives the automation output and transmits it to YouTube using the stream URL and key. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders; OBS is one software example. OBS streaming guide.
- YouTube Live Control Room: creates or schedules the stream, provides the encoder credentials, displays the preview, and provides the controls to start or end the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
Set up the signal path and start streaming
- Check the automation output. Find out whether your playout application can send audio to a sound-device output, mixer, or compatible encoder directly. The exact controls depend on the application, operating system, and audio hardware. RadioDJ documents multiple sound-device outputs and says newer versions use an external encoder for streaming.
- Create or schedule the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Open its stream settings and copy the server URL and stream key. YouTube’s instructions specify entering these values in the encoder’s server and stream-key fields.
- Route the audio to the encoder. In the encoder, choose the device or bus that carries the automation system’s output. If you want video, add a visual source such as a station graphic or camera; a visual source is not necessary to route the audio, but the encoder must send the video format you have configured.
- Enter the YouTube connection details. Select YouTube as the encoder service if available. Otherwise, enter the server URL and key manually. Use the RTMPS URL shown in Live Control Room if your encoder supports it. RTMPS is RTMP sent over a TLS/SSL connection. YouTube’s encoder connection guidance.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm that the expected audio—and video, if configured—appears in the Live Control Room preview. For a scheduled broadcast, click Go live in Live Control Room once the preview is ready; starting the encoder alone does not publish the scheduled stream.
Choose the right encoder and routing method
Before committing to a workflow, check whether the automation software has native RTMP(S) output or needs a separate encoder, how its audio reaches the encoder, and whether its operating system and sound-device configuration are supported. Also consider whether you need unattended scheduling or recovery, whether the encoder supports RTMPS, and whether your broadcast needs only a station image or a more involved visual production.
RadioDJ is one example of automation software with documented scheduling and sound-device outputs; it is not a requirement for this setup. OBS is one example of a separate software encoder. Verify the current input and service configuration in the documentation for whichever products you use. RadioDJ features · OBS streaming guide.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Audio, video, and equipment checks
- Audio input: Make sure the encoder is listening to the same device or bus where the automation system is playing. Check that the source is not muted and that its level is visible in the encoder.
- Visual source: For an audio-led broadcast, you can pair the audio with a station graphic or another suitable video source. Add a camera only if the broadcast calls for one.
- Microphone: A microphone is optional when transmitting already-produced automation audio. You need one only if someone will speak live and you want that voice in the broadcast; YouTube lists microphones among typical live-streaming hardware. YouTube live-streaming hardware guidance.
- Stream key: Treat the key as a credential. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
- Archive: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after they end. YouTube live-stream archive guidance.
Troubleshoot common connection problems
YouTube preview has no audio
Confirm that the automation system is playing through the device or bus selected as the encoder input. Then check the encoder’s input selection, mute state, and level meter. If the meter is silent, trace the signal from the automation output to the selected device before changing YouTube settings.
The encoder cannot connect
Compare the encoder’s server URL and stream key with the current values in Live Control Room. If you selected RTMPS, make sure the URL uses that protocol and that the encoder supports it. Re-copy the current credentials rather than relying on an old saved key or server address.

The preview appears, but the scheduled stream is not live
Wait for the preview to appear, then select Go live in Live Control Room. A successful encoder connection does not by itself complete the launch action for a scheduled stream.
The broadcast stops when the playout computer is shut down
In this workflow, the computer running the automation system or encoder is part of the signal path. If it stops producing or sending the feed, the encoder has no ongoing source to transmit. For continuous operation, plan for the source and encoder to stay available or use a cloud service that plays uploaded recordings.
