YouTube Live Stream Settings for 1080p at 30 FPS

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a 1080p, 30 fps YouTube live stream, use CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and the bitrate recommended for your codec: 14 Mbps for H.264 or 10 Mbps for AV1 or H.265/HEVC. YouTube lists lower minimums, but a stream also needs enough upload capacity for its total bitrate and room for network variation.

Recommended YouTube settings for 1080p30

YouTube Help’s live encoder guidance, accessed October 3, 2026, distinguishes bitrate by video codec. These figures are for live-stream ingestion—not YouTube’s separate recommendations for uploading a prerecorded video.

Setting Recommended value
Resolution and frame rate 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps
Video codec H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1, if supported by your encoder and workflow
Video bitrate H.264: 14 Mbps; AV1 or H.265/HEVC: 10 Mbps
Listed minimum video bitrate H.264: 5 Mbps; AV1 or H.265/HEVC: 4 Mbps
Bitrate mode CBR (constant bitrate)
Keyframe interval 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds
Streaming protocol RTMPS recommended; RTMP is also listed
Audio codec AAC or MP3
Stereo audio bitrate 128 kbps recommended
SDR color space Rec. 709
Pixel aspect and scan Square pixels; progressive scan

The minimum is not the same as the recommended target. If you use H.264, do not apply the 10 Mbps AV1/H.265 recommendation; likewise, do not mistake a prerecorded-video upload setting for a live-ingest bitrate. The official table provides settings guidance, not a controlled comparison of codec image quality or encoder performance. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

Choose a bitrate your connection can sustain

YouTube advises that your available outbound upload bandwidth should exceed the stream’s total bitrate, with about 20% headroom. That total includes audio as well as video, and other devices or applications using the same connection can reduce what is available to the encoder.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

There is no single internet upload-speed figure that guarantees a stable 1080p30 stream: actual capacity and reliability vary by connection and by what else is using it. Check outbound upload capacity, leave headroom, and choose a quality your connection can support rather than relying on a speed-test result alone. A rehearsal can expose problems, but cannot guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. YouTube’s streaming tips cover connection capacity and testing.

Set up the encoder and YouTube stream

  1. Choose an encoder and enter the video settings. YouTube supports encoder streaming with software or a standalone hardware encoder. Set output to 1920 × 1080, 30 fps, and choose a supported codec. You do not need to buy a hardware encoder simply because you are streaming at 1080p30. YouTube explains encoder streaming.
  2. Set the video bitrate for the chosen codec. Use 14 Mbps for H.264 or 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265 as the recommended live video bitrate. You can use the listed minimum—5 Mbps for H.264 or 4 Mbps for AV1/H.265—but first make sure the connection can reliably carry the total stream bitrate.
  3. Set CBR and keyframes. Select constant bitrate and a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
  4. Configure audio and color. Use AAC or MP3 audio, with 128 kbps recommended for stereo. For SDR, use Rec. 709; use square pixels and progressive scan.
  5. Connect the encoder to YouTube. Use RTMPS where your encoder supports it; YouTube also lists RTMP. Copy the stream key from YouTube Live Control Room into the encoder’s stream-key field. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel. Do not publish it or show it on screen.
  6. Choose resolution handling. YouTube’s default recommendation is to let it detect the resolution and frame rate. If you need to set these manually, create a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution in Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance describes this option.
  7. Rehearse, then monitor stream health. Test with audio and movement representative of the real broadcast. Check YouTube’s stream-health messages during the event and adjust if it reports a problem.

Choose latency and DVR for the kind of stream

Latency is the delay between capture at the camera or encoder and playback for viewers. Lower latency can make audience interaction feel more immediate, but may increase playback buffering. For a stream built around live chat or real-time responses, faster feedback may matter; for a broadcast with little interaction, there may be less reason to prioritize the lowest delay. YouTube does not prescribe one setting for every event.

DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live stream. Decide whether those controls suit the broadcast and its audience. Review YouTube’s guidance on latency and DVR when choosing the experience.

Troubleshoot common 1080p30 problems

  • YouTube reports an unstable connection or the stream buffers: The connection may not have enough dependable outbound capacity for the total bitrate, or competing traffic may be consuming bandwidth. Check upload capacity, leave roughly 20% headroom, and try a bitrate your connection can sustain.
  • The stream looks poor despite selecting 1080p: Confirm the encoder is actually outputting 1920 × 1080 at 30 fps and that the video bitrate matches the codec. The recommended values are 14 Mbps for H.264 and 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265; YouTube’s lower listed minimums are not equivalent recommendations.
  • The encoder or YouTube rejects a setting: Confirm that the encoder supports the selected codec and that the rest of the production workflow accepts it. If manual resolution selection is needed in Live Control Room, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution.
  • Viewers report delay or buffering: Consider whether the selected latency prioritizes interaction at the expense of playback stability. Reassess the latency choice against the event’s need for real-time responses.
  • The encoder cannot connect to YouTube: Check that the stream key was copied correctly and that the configured protocol is supported by the encoder. Prefer RTMPS if available.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep a prerecorded video or playlist live on YouTube continuously, the encoder workflow above requires an encoder and a dependable connection to stay active. StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on a YouTube channel: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
