The clearest sign that YouTube is receiving your encoder’s RTMP or RTMPS feed is that video appears in the event’s preview in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room after you start the encoder. Check Stream health for status and errors. Preview confirms incoming video; it does not, by itself, mean the event is live to viewers.
Check for an incoming stream in YouTube Studio
- Open the right event. In YouTube Studio, open the scheduled stream or event in Live Control Room. Make sure it is the event you intend to broadcast.
- Check the encoder destination. Confirm the encoder is configured with that event’s YouTube server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to copy these values from Live Control Room: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. Keep the stream key private; if it may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room.
- Start sending the feed. Start streaming from your encoder. Wait for the incoming video to appear in the Live Control Room preview, and check that the picture moves and the expected audio is present.
- Read Stream health. Look at the Stream health area for status, error messages, or instructions. YouTube documents stream health and real-time analytics in Live Control Room: See your live stream’s metrics – Computer.
- Go live, if required. Once the feed is ready, click Go live if that event’s workflow requires it. Then check the channel or watch page, and if relevant test playback on a mobile device.
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says to wait for the preview before clicking Go live. Its streaming tips likewise advise checking the preview before starting the stream.
What preview and Stream health actually confirm
Preview: YouTube is receiving the feed
If the preview appears after the encoder starts, YouTube is receiving an incoming feed for that event. Check for both moving video and the audio you expect; a still image or silent preview may reveal a problem even when a connection is present.
Stream health: status and diagnostic guidance
Stream health provides status information and may display specific errors or instructions. Read the message shown for your stream before changing encoder settings; it is more useful than assuming a particular cause.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Watch page: viewers can access the event
A preview is an ingest check, not a viewer-access check. If the preview is present but the public stream is unavailable, confirm that you have taken the event live and check the channel or watch page. These are separate stages: first establish that YouTube receives the encoder feed, then establish that viewers can play it.
If no preview appears or Stream health reports a problem
Confirm the event, server URL, and key
Check that the encoder is sending to the server URL and stream key for the event open in Live Control Room. A valid feed sent to a different event will not confirm receipt by the event you are checking. If the key is compromised, reset it in Live Control Room rather than continuing to use it.

Follow the specific Stream health message
Read the status and any accompanying error or instruction in Live Control Room. YouTube’s metrics guidance for Android also describes stream health information. The exact message is a better starting point than changing multiple encoder settings at once.
Check upload capacity and network conditions
Streaming depends on outbound upload capacity, not just download speed. YouTube recommends having upload bandwidth above the total stream bitrate, with about 20% room, and notes that other activity on a shared network can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Test representative audio and motion
Test with audio and movement similar to the real stream, then watch Stream health as the feed runs. YouTube recommends testing before an event and monitoring health during it. A static test image or an idle audio channel may not expose issues that occur with the actual content.
Separate ingest problems from audience-access problems
If no preview appears, concentrate first on the encoder’s destination, key, outgoing connection, and the health message. If preview does appear, YouTube is receiving the feed; next check whether the event has been taken live and whether its watch page is accessible.

Encoder settings that can affect receipt
YouTube’s current general encoder guidance lists RTMP and RTMPS as supported protocols, with H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends constant bitrate encoding, a two-second keyframe interval (not exceeding four seconds), and supports frame rates up to 60 fps. Recommended bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate, so consult YouTube’s current table rather than applying one bitrate to every stream: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
For example, YouTube’s published table gives H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps a recommended bitrate setting of 14 Mbps; verify the current table before relying on that value because guidance can change. YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension of RTMP. That improves connection security; it does not change how you verify receipt in preview and Stream health.
