Google Cloud GPU VMs — a possible foundation when you need a cloud computer. Google lists GPU charges separately from machine-type costs, and availability and pricing vary by GPU and region. A GPU price alone is not a VM quote or a complete streaming bill.

Google Cloud Live Stream API — for processing an existing live input. It accepts a live input and can transcode outputs such as DASH and HLS, save outputs to Cloud Storage, and support live-to-VOD workflows. It is not documented as a service that hosts a game.

AWS Media Services with CloudFront — for video workflow and delivery components. AWS documents workflows for VOD, live video, and 24×7 live channels. That does not mean CloudFront runs a game or removes the need for a game host and encoder.
These are recommendations by job, not a claim that one cloud provider is universally best. The published material does not compare them on a matched gaming workload, demonstrate a particular game running on a particular instance, or establish a complete 24/7 price.

For a channel built around prerecorded gameplay, this avoids maintaining a computer solely to replay the recording. It is not the right service if you need a cloud machine to operate a game, generate new gameplay, or capture a live session.

2. GPU virtual machines for running a game and encoder
A GPU VM is the relevant cloud category if the game itself must run remotely. You would need to install or configure the game, produce a video output, encode it, and send the encoded feed to YouTube. AWS publishes EC2 G4 GPU specifications and on-demand prices; Google Cloud publishes GPU pricing and notes that GPU charges are additional to machine-type costs. These sources establish possible infrastructure components, not compatibility with a specific game or a turnkey broadcasting service.
What to establish before selecting a VM
- Game compatibility: verify the game’s platform, operating-system requirements, licensing terms, and whether it can run in the chosen virtualized environment. The published cloud GPU information does not establish compatibility for an unspecified game.
- GPU and region: check instance or GPU availability where you need it, including quota and current stock. AWS’s cited price display is for US East (Northern Virginia); it should not be treated as a quote for another region. Google GPU prices vary by GPU and region.
- Encoder setup: confirm that the VM can run the game and chosen encoder together at the resolution and frame rate you want. No workload-specific tests are established here.
- Network and recovery: plan how the encoder will reach YouTube, how you will monitor stream health, and what will restart the game or encoder if a process or connection fails. Do not assume recovery is included with a VM.
Budget the full continuous workload
Do not compare a GPU’s hourly sticker price with the total cost of a managed streaming service. Include the VM machine type, GPU, attached storage, network transfer, region, operating system licensing where applicable, and any separate video-service charges. Google Cloud says Live Stream API usage is billed on demand and that output pricing depends in part on resolution and configured codecs; that charge is separate from a VM that runs a game or encoder.

As one bounded price example, Google Cloud’s 2026 pricing page listed an NVIDIA T4 at USD 0.35 per GPU-hour on demand. That is a GPU charge only—not the machine type, storage, transfer, video processing, or a complete 24/7 estimate. AWS publishes its own regional EC2 pricing, but no matched total for this use case is established here. Check current prices and regional availability before committing.
3. Managed live-video services for an existing feed
Use a managed live-video service when you already have a live input and need video processing or delivery components. Google Cloud Live Stream API can transcode a live input to delivery formats including DASH and HLS; output can be saved to Cloud Storage, and the service overview includes live-to-VOD. AWS documents a workflow using CloudFront and AWS Media Services for VOD, live video, and 24×7 live channels.
These services address the video pipeline, not game execution. You still need to create the game output and encoder feed if your source is a game running in the cloud. Nor does documentation of a live channel establish that a service is configured to publish a gaming stream to YouTube without additional setup.
Recommended decision path for a 24/7 gaming channel
- If you already have gameplay recordings: decide whether a continuous YouTube loop meets your format. If so, use a managed uploader/looper such as StreamNeo rather than paying for a game-running VM you do not need.
- If new gameplay must be generated continuously: investigate a GPU VM, then validate the exact game, operating system, encoder, GPU, region, and network setup before buying into a long-running configuration.
- If you already operate an encoder and only need processing or delivery: assess managed video services such as Google Cloud Live Stream API or AWS Media Services with CloudFront. Confirm the actual input and YouTube publishing workflow rather than assuming transcoding handles those steps.
- Compare total costs at continuous runtime: include compute, GPU, storage, network transfer, operating system, and video-service usage. Ask for or calculate a workload-specific quote; the documented examples do not settle a universal monthly total.
- Plan operations: decide who monitors the feed, detects a dropped stream, restarts failed components, and checks copyright or policy issues. A VM and a managed transcoder do not automatically provide the same recovery or support as a purpose-built looping service.
YouTube encoder settings to check
YouTube’s live encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 live encoding up to 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and says the interval should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS, advises testing before going live, and provides stream-health monitoring.

- Resolution and bitrate: choose them together based on your target quality and available upload capacity. Consult YouTube’s resolution-specific bitrate table for the exact target; a single bitrate is not appropriate for every resolution and frame rate.
- Keyframes: set a two-second interval where the encoder allows it, and do not exceed four seconds.
- Protocol: use RTMPS where supported by the encoder and publishing setup.
- Test and monitor: run a test before relying on the stream, then watch YouTube stream health for connection or encoding problems.
- Stream key: use the YouTube stream key in the encoder or service that sends the feed. Treat it as a secret; if it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the sending service.
Copyright, reused gameplay, and channel eligibility
A video being a VOD or a gameplay recording does not by itself establish that it is cleared for continuous rebroadcast. Check the rights for the game footage, music, overlays, and any third-party material in every video, and review YouTube’s current live-streaming, copyright, and channel-monetization policies. A stream that is technically online can still receive a claim, be interrupted, or affect a channel’s eligibility if its content or use does not meet platform rules. Avoid assuming that permission to play a game automatically covers every soundtrack or other embedded work.
When a cloud gaming stream fails
The game or VM cannot sustain the target output
Reduce the target resolution or frame rate during a test, inspect GPU and machine capacity, and verify the game’s requirements against the selected VM. A published GPU model or hourly price does not prove it can render a particular game and encode at a chosen quality.
YouTube reports poor stream health
Check encoder output, network upload capacity, bitrate stability, keyframe interval, and RTMPS configuration. Test at the target resolution before scheduling a continuous stream; use YouTube’s health indicators rather than assuming the encoder’s local status means the feed is healthy.
The live stream stops after a disconnect or process failure
Determine whether the failure is in the game, encoder, VM, network path, or YouTube ingest. For a self-managed VM, arrange monitoring and a restart procedure; do not assume a cloud VM automatically restarts a failed game or encoder. A managed looping service may be more suitable for prerecorded videos when recovery from a YouTube disconnect is important.
The bill is higher than the GPU estimate
Recheck machine-type charges, GPU hours, disk and storage, data transfer, regional pricing, and separate video-processing fees. The GPU-only price is not the cost of a complete continuous stream.
