To loop a store promo in OBS, add it to a scene as a Media Source, select the local video file, and enable Loop. For YouTube Live, pair that with YouTube’s H.264, CBR and 2-second keyframe baseline, then choose a resolution and bitrate your store’s upload connection can sustain. Test from the actual connection before relying on the stream.
Set up a single promo video to loop in OBS
- Add the video: In OBS, select the scene that will carry the promo. In the Sources panel, choose + and add a Media Source. Select the local video file.
- Enable looping: Turn on Loop in the Media Source properties. OBS also enables Restart playback when source becomes active and Show nothing when playback ends by default. The first setting restarts playback when the source becomes visible; the second controls what appears at the end of playback. Check the preview to confirm the file restarts as expected. - Frame the promo: Check the OBS preview for cropping, black bars, or content outside the canvas. Make sure the video’s important text and offer details remain visible at the output resolution you plan to stream.
Loop a playlist of promo clips
For multiple files, add a VLC Video source instead of a Media Source. VLC must be installed for this source to appear in OBS. Its Loop Playlist option is on by default; check the playlist order and preview playback before going live. For one promo file, the standard Media Source is the simpler choice. OBS Media Sources
Choose YouTube encoder settings for the store connection
YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance gives a general encoder baseline, not an India-specific preset. Use H.264 video, CBR rate control and a 2-second keyframe interval; YouTube says the keyframe interval should not exceed 4 seconds. The listed maximum frame rate is 60 fps. For SDR, YouTube’s advanced recommendations specify Rec. 709 color space, 8-bit depth, progressive scan, square pixels and 128 Kbps stereo audio. YouTube encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions
Match resolution and bitrate to upload capacity
The following are YouTube’s H.264 ingestion examples. They are not a guarantee that a particular store connection can sustain those rates. YouTube recommends running a speed test and choosing a quality that is reliable for the available upload connection.

These are video bitrates; account for audio and normal variation in the connection as well. If OBS or YouTube reports an unstable stream, reduce the bitrate or select a lower resolution or frame rate and test again. YouTube transcodes incoming live streams into multiple output formats for viewers, so the stream’s ingest quality and the playback options viewers see are not the same thing.
Use RTMPS when available
YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP, when it is available. There is no special India-only bitrate or loop setting established by YouTube’s guidance. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Check eligibility: YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Confirm access before planning the promo stream. YouTube live streaming eligibility
- Create or schedule the stream: In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the connection details: Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into OBS’s stream settings. Treat the stream key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to stream to your channel. Do not show it in a screen recording or share it publicly. YouTube stream keys
- Preview and test: Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview before publishing. YouTube’s instruction is direct: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” Test the promo’s representative motion and audio, then check stream health and messages. - Go live and monitor: Watch for stream-health warnings and verify that both video and audio remain correct. If the connection becomes unstable, lower the output quality or bitrate rather than assuming the advertised speed is continuously available.
Copyright, promotions and stream duration
Use footage, music and other material you have permission to stream. A store promo may combine video, brand assets, music or third-party clips, so confirm the rights for each part before broadcasting. YouTube’s cited setup guidance does not establish that a particular promo is exempt from copyright or reused-content rules. A successful encoder test does not itself establish permission to use the material.
YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If the promo event is over, stop the encoder rather than leaving the stream running unintentionally. YouTube streaming setup and stream keys

Troubleshoot a looping YouTube promo
- The promo plays once and stops: Open the Media Source properties and check that Loop is enabled. Preview the source through the end of the file to verify the setting.
- The preview goes blank at the end: Check Show nothing when playback ends and confirm that looping is active. This option affects the end-of-playback display; it does not replace the Loop setting.
- A VLC Video source is missing: Install VLC, then reopen or refresh OBS and check the Sources add menu. OBS requires VLC for this source type.
- YouTube reports an unstable stream: Test the upload connection from the store. Reduce resolution, frame rate or bitrate until OBS and YouTube show a stable feed; do not rely on a speed-test result alone.
- The Live Control Room has no preview: Confirm OBS is sending to the stream URL and stream key for the stream you created or scheduled. Recopy the key if necessary, and keep it private.
- The stream is live but the promo has no sound: Test representative audio before publishing and check OBS’s audio meters and YouTube’s preview. Confirm the chosen audio track is included in the OBS stream output.
