A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11For a 4K/2160p, 60 fps YouTube Live stream, start with CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and YouTube’s recommended ingest bitrate for your video codec: 50 Mbps for H.264 or 35 Mbps for H.265/HEVC or AV1. YouTube lists lower minimums, but these recommendations are not a guarantee that your connection or encoder will deliver a stable stream. Test with representative motion and audio before going live.
Recommended 4K60 encoder settings
These are YouTube’s published encoder settings and bitrate recommendations in its current Help guidance, accessed in 2026. They describe what to send to YouTube’s ingest server, not the upload capacity your internet plan guarantees.
| Setting | Recommended starting point | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 3840 × 2160 (2160p), 60 fps | YouTube lists encoder frame rates up to 60 fps. |
| Video codec and bitrate | H.264: 50 Mbps recommended; 14 Mbps minimum listed | Use the bitrate for the codec you select. |
| Video codec and bitrate | H.265/HEVC: 35 Mbps recommended; 10 Mbps minimum listed | For HDR, YouTube’s guidance calls for H.265/HEVC at 10-bit. |
| Video codec and bitrate | AV1: 35 Mbps recommended; 10 Mbps minimum listed | AV1 is not supported for HDR in this guidance. At 3840 × 2160 and above, YouTube lists a minimum of two tile columns for AV1. |
| Rate control | CBR | Use constant bitrate for the encoder output. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | Recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds. |
| Protocol | RTMPS | YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS and recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. |
| Frame structure | Progressive scan, 2 B-frames, 1 reference frame | Use square pixels and CABAC entropy coding. |
| SDR color | Rec. 709, 8-bit | Use the SDR values for an SDR production. |
| HDR color | H.265/HEVC, 10-bit | Do not choose AV1 for HDR based on this YouTube guidance. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 | 5.1 surround over RTMP/RTMPS is supported only with AAC. |
| Stereo audio | 44.1 kHz, 128 kbps | YouTube’s listed stereo sample rate and bitrate. |
| 5.1 audio | 48 kHz, 384 kbps | YouTube’s listed 5.1 sample rate and bitrate. |

How to choose H.264, HEVC, or AV1
Match the ingest bitrate to the codec you are sending. YouTube’s recommended 4K60 bitrate is lower for H.265/HEVC and AV1 than for H.264, but the published figures are platform settings—not a controlled comparison proving that one codec always looks better. Choose based on your encoder’s support, your stream’s SDR or HDR format, and whether your connection can reliably sustain the recommended bitrate.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Use H.264 when it is the codec your encoder can reliably send; set 50 Mbps as the recommended starting point.
- Consider H.265/HEVC when supported by your encoder, especially for HDR, for which YouTube’s guidance specifies HEVC at 10-bit; use 35 Mbps as the recommended 4K60 starting point.
- Consider AV1 when supported for an SDR stream; use 35 Mbps as the recommended 4K60 starting point. YouTube’s guidance does not support AV1 for HDR.
The listed minimums—14 Mbps for H.264 and 10 Mbps for H.265/HEVC or AV1—are not the recommended targets. A stream may still be unstable if the available upload capacity fluctuates or other network use competes with it.
Set up YouTube Live and your encoder
- Prepare the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube normally detects resolution and frame rate automatically. If you need to select them manually, create a custom stream key and enable manual settings under Stream Resolution.
- Configure the encoder output. In the encoder, set 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps, select the intended codec, and enter its matching recommended bitrate. Set rate control to CBR, keyframes to every 2 seconds, and use RTMPS when available.
- Check the remaining video and audio settings. Use progressive scan, square pixels, 2 B-frames, 1 reference frame, and CABAC. Choose Rec. 709 at 8-bit for SDR or HEVC at 10-bit for HDR. Set audio to AAC or MP3 and use the listed sample rate and bitrate for stereo or 5.1.
- Verify the encoder is connected to the correct stream. Use the stream key for the intended YouTube broadcast and keep it private; anyone who obtains the key may be able to send to that stream.
Test the upload and stream before the event
Check your available upload bitrate before committing to 4K60. The encoder must be able to sustain the selected video bitrate along with audio and network overhead; a speed-test result is only a snapshot, so leave headroom rather than treating a brief peak as dependable capacity.

Run a rehearsal using motion and audio similar to the real broadcast. YouTube specifically advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” During the rehearsal and live event, monitor stream health and the messages shown by the encoder or Live Control Room.
At 4K/2160p, YouTube does not offer the “improve for low latency” option. YouTube says 4K streams are optimized for quality and use normal latency.

Troubleshoot common 4K60 problems
- Stream health reports an unstable connection or dropped frames: Check whether upload capacity is sufficient and steady for the selected codec bitrate. Reduce competing network use, test again, or lower the stream quality to a setting your connection can sustain.
- The stream does not appear at the intended resolution or frame rate: Check the encoder output and YouTube’s Stream Resolution setting. If manual selection is needed, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings there.
- YouTube reports an encoder or keyframe warning: Confirm CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval, and make sure the interval does not exceed 4 seconds.
- HDR is not being sent as intended: Check that the encoder is sending H.265/HEVC at 10-bit. YouTube’s guidance does not support AV1 for HDR.
- 5.1 audio is missing or incompatible: Send 5.1 over RTMP/RTMPS using AAC, at 48 kHz and 384 kbps.
- The broadcast has normal rather than low latency: This is expected for 4K; the low-latency improvement option is unavailable at 2160p.
