For a YouTube meditation channel that needs a pre-recorded video or playlist to run continuously, StreamNeo is the simplest option to try first: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer can be off. If you specifically want to operate your own server, Amazon Lightsail is a documented VPS candidate—not a proven universal winner. Its Mumbai plans include half the transfer allowance shown in the general bundle table, so check whether the allowance can support your chosen bitrate before buying.
Which option fits a 24/7 meditation stream?
| Option | Best fit | Key consideration |
|---|---|---|
| 1. StreamNeo | You want an always-on YouTube stream from uploaded recordings or a playlist without maintaining a server. | It runs in the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. See StreamNeo. |
| 2. Amazon Lightsail VPS | You are comfortable administering a server and want to run your own relay or encoder. | Size CPU for encoding and transfer for the continuous upload; Mumbai’s allowance is half the general bundle figure. Lightsail bundles · data-transfer rules. |
| 3. Google Cloud Live Stream API | You need a managed live-encoding pipeline and can account for its quotas, usage-based charges, and session handling. | Documented channel sessions last 24 hours and may need restarting for an ongoing channel. Review quotas and limits. |
| 4. AWS live-delivery stack | You are building a broader live-video workflow with packaging and audience distribution components. | A MediaLive/CloudFront architecture can be more infrastructure than needed when YouTube is the final destination. AWS streaming architecture. |
For the VPS route, the available evidence does not establish a single best plan for every creator: the answer depends on bitrate, resolution, whether you encode or simply relay, monthly budget, and recovery needs. Lightsail is a practical candidate to size against those requirements, not a performance-tested recommendation.
Why your India audience does not automatically require an India server
In a VPS-to-YouTube setup, the server sends one continuous feed to YouTube’s ingest service. YouTube then transcodes the incoming stream into formats for viewers, so your VPS is not directly serving every viewer’s video traffic. An India audience alone therefore does not prove that the encoder must be in India. Choose a region based on a reliable route to YouTube ingest and on how you will administer the server; test the actual route if you can.
YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingest. Its documentation describes RTMPS as RTMP over an SSL connection and says it is a good choice for most ordinary content, particularly when low latency matters. See YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion guide.

Estimate continuous transfer before choosing a VPS
A stream’s bitrate runs continuously, so even a modest upload accumulates substantial monthly transfer. As a planning estimate using decimal gigabytes and a 30-day month, 1 Mbps uses about 10.8 GB per day, or 324 GB over 30 days. Multiply that by your video and audio bitrate in Mbps; then leave headroom for overhead and account for the provider’s transfer-counting rules.
- At 4 Mbps, the estimate is about 1,296 GB over 30 days.
- At 10 Mbps, the estimate is about 3,240 GB over 30 days.
These are arithmetic estimates, not provider-measured consumption or a guarantee of a final bill. A playlist does not reduce the outgoing stream bitrate simply because its source files are already encoded.

Amazon’s general Lightsail bundle listing includes a Linux public-IPv4 plan at $24 USD per month with 2 vCPUs, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB SSD, and 4 TB transfer. AWS says Mumbai plans receive half the general transfer allowance, making that 2 TB for a comparable allowance. AWS also says both inbound and outbound instance transfer count toward the allowance; excess outbound transfer may incur charges. These are listed plan figures, not a total-cost guarantee. Check the current regional plan and terms before purchase. Sources: bundle listing and transfer FAQ.
Choose between relaying and real-time encoding
Relay already-encoded media when possible
If your recordings are already in a suitable format and you only need to loop them, a relay or playlist process avoids the sustained CPU work of re-encoding. You still need enough outbound transfer, disk space for media, and a process that recovers after a network interruption or server reboot.

Budget for CPU if the server must encode
Real-time encoding consumes CPU and must keep up with the chosen frame rate. Amazon Lightsail’s FAQ says AWS recommends EC2 for highly configurable environments and instances needing consistently high CPU performance, including video encoding. For that workload, compare EC2 or a managed encoding service rather than assuming a small fixed VPS bundle will suffice. Lightsail instance guidance.
Set the YouTube encoder deliberately
- Use RTMPS ingest. Select the RTMPS server option in the encoder or service configuration when available, and use the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish it, place it in public scripts, or share screenshots containing it.
- Use constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends CBR. Its current H.264 table lists 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps and 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. These are guidance values for the listed settings, not universal minimums or a specific meditation-stream requirement; consult the current table for your resolution, frame rate, and codec.
- Set a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends two seconds and specifies a maximum four-second interval.
- Choose a supported video and audio codec. YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for video, and AAC or MP3 for audio. Confirm your chosen encoder and ingest configuration support the combination you intend to use.
- Check stream health before leaving it unattended. Confirm the preview and audio in YouTube Studio, then verify the stream remains healthy after the server or service has been running. YouTube can transcode incoming video for different viewer devices and networks; the source still needs a stable, correctly configured feed.

Build recovery into a self-managed VPS
A server being online does not by itself make a stream resilient. For a VPS-based setup, plan and verify each layer:
- Process supervision: configure the encoder or relay to restart if it exits, rather than relying on a terminal session that disappears.
- Reboot recovery: arrange for the streaming process to start after an operating-system reboot, then test a reboot before depending on the channel.
- Network recovery: make sure the process reconnects after a dropped route and resumes sending to YouTube.
- Stream monitoring: check YouTube Studio’s stream health and have a way to notice when the feed is missing or unhealthy.
- Media and key security: keep the source files available to the process and protect the stream key from logs, public repositories, and unauthorized access.
These are operational requirements to verify in your chosen setup, not features guaranteed by a VPS plan. A managed alternative has its own recovery limits: Google Cloud’s Live Stream API documentation says channel sessions last 24 hours and may be restarted if they remain in a streaming state. Include restart handling and review current quotas and usage-based pricing before using it for a continuous channel. Google Cloud Live Stream API quotas and limits.

Copyright and channel suitability matter for meditation video
A technically healthy stream can still run into rights or channel-policy problems. Use music, spoken guidance, visuals, and recordings you created or have permission to broadcast on YouTube. Keep records of licenses and permissions, including the scope and duration of use; a track being described as royalty-free does not by itself establish that your particular use is permitted. Review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules for your channel and content. Replaying material continuously does not establish that it is original or eligible for monetization. StreamNeo provides a copyright safety checklist; it is a planning aid, not a substitute for rights clearance or YouTube’s policies.
Troubleshoot the usual 24/7 stream failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Stream stops when you close your laptop | The encoder was running locally, not on an always-on server or cloud service. | Move the process to a server/service designed to keep running independently of your computer, or use a cloud looping service. |
| Stream drops after a disconnect or reboot | The encoder lacks reconnect logic, process supervision, or startup recovery. | Check service logs, configure restart and reboot behavior, and test recovery deliberately. |
| VPS transfer runs out or costs more than expected | The continuous bitrate exceeds the plan allowance, regional allowance is lower, or transfer counting differs from your estimate. | Recalculate bitrate-based monthly usage, check regional allowance and both-direction counting, and inspect the provider’s current excess-transfer terms. |
| CPU is saturated or output stutters during encoding | The server is encoding in real time without adequate sustained CPU capacity. | Distinguish encoding from stream copy; reduce the workload only if the resulting quality is acceptable, or compare compute-appropriate infrastructure. |
| YouTube shows no input or unhealthy stream | Wrong ingest URL or stream key, incompatible encoder settings, or a broken route to ingest. | Recheck the RTMPS endpoint and key in YouTube Studio and the encoder, then verify codec, bitrate mode, keyframe interval, and network connectivity. |
| Managed channel ends around a day | A session limit applies to the selected managed service. | For Google Cloud Live Stream API, plan for the documented 24-hour session and automated or operational restart. |
| Stream is live but receives a rights claim or restriction | Music, artwork, or other content may not be cleared for this broadcast or may trigger a platform policy action. | Review the claim and the applicable license; replace or remove material you cannot document permission to use. |
