There isn’t enough information to identify one cause from “keeps stopping” alone. First determine whether YouTube ended the live event, viewers are seeing a playback interruption while the event stays live, or the live stream continued but its archive is missing. For an encoder-fed demo, compare YouTube Studio’s stream-health messages with the encoder’s output and errors; then check the stream’s auto-stop setting, outbound connection, and any copyright or policy notices.
First, identify what is actually stopping
A product demo loop can mean a live camera or screen feed sent through an encoder, or a prerecorded video or playlist replayed as a live stream. The troubleshooting guidance for encoder settings does not diagnose a prerecorded-video player or playlist by itself, so identify your workflow before changing settings.
- The live event ended: YouTube Studio shows the stream as ended. Look for an auto-stop action, encoder failure, connection loss, or a policy interruption.
- Playback froze or viewers lost the picture: Check whether the event is still live, then compare stream health with the encoder’s preview and output. A playback interruption is not necessarily an event shutdown.
- The live event continued, but no archive appeared: Check the stream’s duration and archive behavior. A missing recording does not prove that the live transmission stopped.
To narrow it down, note whether the demo is an encoder feed or a replay; what Live Control Room says; whether the encoder reports errors or high CPU load; how long the stream ran; and whether Studio shows a copyright or policy notice.
Check the stream settings for an intentional stop
In YouTube Studio, open the stream’s settings for the encoder or mobile stream and inspect auto-start and auto-stop. YouTube says, “When these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from your encoder.” If the event ended cleanly, an enabled auto-stop setting may explain why. If you created it with Reuse settings, check these options there too: YouTube says reused settings copy the auto-start and auto-stop choices.

Compare YouTube stream health with the encoder
For an encoder-fed demo, inspect the Live Control Room’s stream-health messages and warnings, then check the encoder’s preview or output, its error messages, and CPU load. YouTube identifies encoder errors, source quality, and CPU load as possible signs of an encoder-side problem. If the video or audio is poor, YouTube recommends updating the encoder and checking local archive files; if the problem continues, its troubleshooting guidance suggests trying another encoder.

If YouTube reports a problem, use that message to guide the next check rather than assuming the encoder is at fault. If the encoder reports errors or its output is failing, investigate the encoder and source first.
Check the outbound connection and failover
If the encoder appears healthy, investigate the connection sending the stream out. YouTube recommends monitoring stream health and testing failover before relying on a backup encoder. Its suggested test is to stop the primary encoder or unplug Ethernet and confirm that the backup takes over. Do this as a planned test, not during an important demo. A wired connection may be worth considering only if your diagnosis points to network instability; a cable alone is not a confirmed fix.

Separate a stopped stream from a missing archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. As YouTube Help puts it, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” This is archive guidance, not evidence that YouTube automatically ends a live transmission at 12 hours. If keeping a recording matters, YouTube recommends making a local archive backup.
Check for copyright or policy interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies such content, it may show a placeholder and warn the creator to stop; if the content remains, or a strike applies, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. Check YouTube Studio for copyright strikes or warnings, and review any policy notice shown for the event. The fact that a stream stopped does not by itself establish that copyright caused it.
