Yes. Create a custom stream key in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, save it in your encoder, and select that same key for later broadcasts. You can also reuse a previous stream’s settings. This makes repeat broadcasts easier, but it does not make one live event permanent: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, and its cited guidance does not specify what happens to archives for longer streams.
How to reuse a YouTube stream key
- Open the key settings. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and select the Stream tab. Under Select stream key, create a custom stream key and save it. YouTube describes the stream key as credential and address information the encoder uses to send your feed. YouTube’s stream setup instructions explain the process.
- Copy the connection details into your encoder. Enter the stream URL and stream key in the corresponding server and stream-key fields. Keep the key private: it grants an encoder the ability to send a feed to your channel.
- Use the same key for a later broadcast. Select the saved custom key in the encoder and use it when setting up the next broadcast. YouTube may load previous stream settings, or you can choose Reuse settings when creating another stream. Depending on the prior stream, this can carry forward its metadata and settings as well as its key. Check the title, description, visibility, and other details before going live. See YouTube’s instructions for streaming with an encoder.
- Preview and test. Start the encoder, check the YouTube preview and stream health, and confirm that the intended video and audio are reaching YouTube before relying on the setup for a scheduled broadcast.
What reusing a key does—and does not—do
A custom key is a reusable encoder credential. Reusing it saves you from making a new key for every broadcast; reusing settings can also copy earlier metadata and configuration. Neither action promises that one live event will stay open forever. Treat the key as a way to connect repeat broadcasts, not as a permanent-live switch.
Plan around YouTube’s archive guidance
YouTube says that all streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited guidance does not establish whether or how a stream that runs 12 hours or longer will be archived. If keeping a complete archive matters, plan and test an approach that does not depend on a single continuous event being preserved beyond that stated threshold. YouTube’s encoder instructions contain the archive guidance.
Know the current service limits
YouTube’s current getting-started help page states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key. These are platform limits and may change; check YouTube’s current live-streaming help before building an operations plan around them.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check channel eligibility before troubleshooting
YouTube’s current guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If an encoder cannot start a broadcast, confirm these conditions before changing encoder settings. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Encoder settings and operations for a continuous channel
Software or hardware encoder
YouTube supports software encoders. A professional-grade hardware encoder is an optional choice for a more involved production, not a requirement for reusing a key. YouTube’s guidance does not certify any specific encoder model or guarantee that a device is reliable for continuous operation. YouTube’s encoder overview describes the available approach.

RTMP/RTMPS basics
For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe frequency; do not exceed four seconds. Choose a stream quality your connection can reliably sustain. Test the complete workflow and monitor stream health rather than assuming the settings guarantee uninterrupted service. See YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance.
Protect and reset a compromised key
If someone else obtains the key, reset it in the Live Control Room and replace the saved key in every encoder that uses it. YouTube says only channel owners or managers can reset a stream key. Do not leave an old key in a shared setup after rotating it. YouTube’s stream setup instructions cover key management.

Troubleshooting common reuse problems
- The encoder cannot connect: Check that the stream URL and key are in their correct fields, that the selected key is the intended custom key, and that the channel meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements.
- The encoder connects but YouTube shows no usable preview: Verify the encoder is sending the intended feed, then inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Test before the planned broadcast rather than waiting until the channel is meant to be live.
- The broadcast starts with old details: Reusing settings may carry forward metadata and configuration. Review the title, description, visibility, and other stream details before going live.
- The saved key no longer works or may be exposed: Reset it in the Live Control Room if you are an owner or manager, then update the key in the encoder. Every setup still using the previous key must be changed.
- You expect a permanent live stream or a guaranteed long archive: Key reuse does not establish a forever-running event. YouTube’s cited archive statement covers streams under 12 hours only; plan for that boundary and check YouTube’s current instructions.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps replaying uploaded videos, StreamNeo is an alternative to running an encoder at home: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps it running, so nothing has to stay on at home. It plays uploaded video, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.
- Any quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, with the video streamed as uploaded.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
