Then configure OBS with YouTube Live’s encoder settings and test the complete scene. The visualizer creates the motion; it does not provide continuous operation. A 24/7 stream also depends on your computer, power, network, and recovery plan.
Choose a visualizer that fits your OBS setup
OBS sources provide the video and audio elements that make up a scene, and plugins can add new source types. Check the plugin’s supported operating systems and minimum OBS version against your installed setup before downloading it. OBS documents plugin capabilities at OBS Studio plugins.

These listing details are not independent compatibility tests or guarantees of 24/7 stability. Choose based on your OS, OBS version, visual style, update status, and expected resource use. Spectralizer’s deprecated status is a substantial reason to check for compatibility carefully.
Build the visualizer scene in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS, add the music playback source you intend to use. Add a background image or animation if you want one behind the visualizer.
- Install a compatible visualizer. Follow the plugin’s installation instructions for your operating system, and make sure its minimum OBS version is met. Restart OBS if the plugin’s instructions require it.
- Add the visualizer source. In the scene’s Sources panel, add the source provided by the plugin. The exact source name, controls, and interface depend on the plugin and version.
- Route the music to it. Select or route the audio source carrying the music so the visualizer reacts to the intended playback. If the source is silent or the wrong device is selected, the visualizer may not move even if you hear music elsewhere in your setup.
- Arrange the scene. Position and resize the visualizer over the background. Play music and confirm that the displayed motion corresponds to the audio.
Plugin interfaces differ, so use the installed version’s own controls and documentation rather than assuming a particular label or setting. The essential setup is a visualizer source listening to the music source actually used by the scene.

Set OBS for YouTube Live
Use YouTube’s encoder guidance for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you select. YouTube’s published table gives these H.264 examples:

These figures are YouTube Help guidance accessed in 2026, not a guarantee that a particular computer or internet connection can sustain the stream. YouTube also supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS, frame rates up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. Follow the current table for combinations beyond the two examples above.

- Use constant bitrate (CBR) encoding.
- Set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Use RTMPS where available in your encoder and YouTube setup.
- Choose a bitrate your upload connection can sustain reliably, with allowance for normal network variation.
For the full, current codec- and resolution-specific guidance, see YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Treat its values as platform guidance, not as evidence that your setup is capable of continuous streaming.
Test the whole scene before relying on it
Make a private, unlisted, or otherwise appropriate test in YouTube Live before broadcasting to your intended audience. YouTube Help advises: “Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” Include the actual music playback and visualizer so the test reflects their combined load.

- Confirm that YouTube receives both the intended music audio and the visualizer scene.
- Check that the visualizer responds to the right audio source, not to silence or unrelated system audio.
- Inspect YouTube’s stream health and watch the output for dropped frames, stutter, or audio interruptions.
- Test the scene with the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate. An audio-reactive source and animated background can add rendering workload.
- Run the scene long enough to expose performance problems relevant to your planned session. A successful test does not prove that an unattended stream will stay live indefinitely.
Plan separately for 24/7 continuity and music rights
A visualizer plugin changes what OBS displays; it does not keep the computer powered, restore an internet connection, restart OBS, monitor stream health, or guarantee recovery after YouTube drops a connection. For an always-on DIY setup, account for machine uptime, power, network interruptions, monitoring, and a way to recover the stream. The right procedures depend on your hardware, operating system, account setup, and infrastructure; a successful visual test alone is not a continuity plan.
Also establish that you have the applicable rights to broadcast each track and any other material in the stream. The visualizer and encoder settings do not grant music rights, and permissions depend on the catalog and your circumstances. Do not assume that music being available to play means it is cleared for a continuous YouTube broadcast.

Common problems and fixes
