For a stable 24/7 pre-recorded YouTube Live stream, use a constant bitrate (CBR), set keyframes every 2 seconds, and choose a bitrate YouTube recommends for your codec, resolution and frame rate. Then test with representative audio and motion, watch Live Control Room stream health, and keep a separate local recording: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Choose settings for your actual source and connection
Use YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate recommendations, not settings intended for uploading a finished video. The right ingest bitrate depends on the codec, resolution and frame rate you select. A higher setting is not automatically more stable: your upload connection must sustain it.
| Resolution and frame rate | H.264 recommended bitrate | AV1 or H.265 recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommended video ingest bitrates, not a guarantee of picture quality or uninterrupted service on a particular source or network. The settings page also gives minimum values; consult its current full table for other resolutions and frame rates. If your connection cannot reliably sustain the recommended rate for your chosen settings, test a lower resolution or frame rate rather than assuming the stream will remain stable.
Codec, transport and frame rate
YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC) and AV1 video codecs, RTMP and RTMPS ingest, and frame rates up to 60 fps. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Codec availability depends on your encoder and workflow; choose a combination your encoder can actually send and YouTube can ingest.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube detects resolution and frame rate automatically by default. Manual selection is for workflows that call for it, such as using a custom stream key. Do not force a custom value without a reason and a compatible encoder configuration.
Rate control and keyframes
Set rate control to CBR and the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds; its troubleshooting guidance calls for keyframes every 2 seconds and a closed GOP for optimal transcoding. If your encoder exposes GOP or keyframe options, use a closed GOP and a 2-second interval.

SDR picture and audio
For SDR, YouTube’s advanced recommendations include square pixels, progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, CABAC, Rec. 709 and 8-bit color. Use the options only if your encoder exposes them; avoid adding unsupported settings by guesswork.
- Stereo: AAC or MP3 is supported; YouTube recommends AAC at 128 Kbps for stereo and a 44.1 kHz sample rate.
- 5.1 audio: YouTube lists AAC at 48 kHz and 384 Kbps.
Set up the YouTube stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream using the encoder workflow. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to create a stream with an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the stream’s settings into your encoder. YouTube describes the key as a password-like credential that identifies where the encoder sends its feed and lets YouTube accept it.
- Keep the stream key private. If you believe it has been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement key, following YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
- Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages before the public start.
Test before relying on a 24/7 broadcast
YouTube’s encoder guidance says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” A brief test should use the same type of audio and movement as the actual programme: a static image or silent test may not expose problems that appear in music, speech or motion-heavy footage. Confirm the preview, audio and stream-health status. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend setting up an encoder event at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before its scheduled start.

- Monitor audio and video quality while the broadcast runs. Monitoring is an operating practice, not a guarantee against outages.
- For a primary and backup encoder, match important settings: resolution, codec, bitrate, frame rate, keyframe frequency and audio settings. YouTube’s live streaming error guidance covers these requirements.
- Test failover deliberately by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable, then verify the player switches to the backup. A backup that has not been tested is not a proven recovery path.
Keep an archive separately from the live feed
A live broadcast staying connected and a recording being saved are separate concerns. YouTube states: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Do not rely on YouTube to preserve a 24-hour stream. If the recording matters, enable a local archive or another recording workflow and check that the archive file exists and its size is growing. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.
Latency is not a stability setting
Latency is the delay from capture to playback. YouTube cautions that lower latency can mean more playback buffering; for a pre-recorded stream without audience interaction, low latency is generally less important. Choose a latency option for the viewing experience you need rather than treating the lowest delay as a way to improve encoder stability.

Troubleshoot common stability problems
| Symptom | Likely setting or cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Stream health reports an unstable or insufficient connection | The upload path may not sustain the configured bitrate. | Test upload capacity and reduce resolution, frame rate or bitrate to a combination the connection can sustain. Re-test with representative content. |
| Transcoding or playback errors | Keyframe frequency or GOP configuration may not meet YouTube’s guidance. | Set a 2-second keyframe interval, do not exceed 4 seconds, and use a closed GOP. |
| Backup does not take over cleanly | Primary and backup settings may differ, or failover has not been validated. | Match codec, resolution, bitrate, frame rate, keyframe frequency and audio; test a switchover and verify the player changes to the backup. |
| Live video is available but the recording is missing or incomplete | YouTube may not capture a stream longer than 12 hours. | Use a separate local archive and confirm its file is growing during the broadcast. |
| Unexpected feed appears on the channel | The stream key may have been exposed. | Reset the key in Live Control Room and replace it in the encoder. |
YouTube’s documentation covers recommended settings, tests, monitoring and backup configuration; it does not promise that any encoder setup will stay connected for 24 hours or prescribe a universal restart schedule. Plan to monitor the operation and test the recovery path you intend to use.
