Verify the channel and enable live streaming in advance, connect a software or hardware encoder with your stream key, test the feed and its recovery plan, and arrange ongoing monitoring. If you need a complete replay, plan for YouTube’s archive limit: streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; a complete archive is not promised for a stream lasting 24 hours or longer.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and activation time
- Your channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned launch.
- YouTube says live streamers must be at least 16 years old.
See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and formats and encoder setup instructions. Platform rules and interface labels can change, so confirm the current requirements in YouTube Studio before launch.
Choose an encoder for the kind of demo you are making

YouTube supports both software and standalone hardware encoders; it does not make one universal choice for every demo. Decide based on whether your source is a screen or camera, whether you need overlays or multiple inputs, and whether an operator will be present to monitor and recover the setup. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend testing the actual configuration, including failover.
Set up the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create → Go live. Choose the Stream tab for an immediate stream, or Manage to schedule one. Scheduling gives you a stream URL to share in advance.
- Enter the stream details. Add a clear title and description, choose visibility, and set any other details available for the stream. For a product demo, describe what viewers will see and avoid implying that the stream guarantees a purchase, result or availability that you cannot confirm.
- Copy the connection details from Live Control Room. Add YouTube’s server URL (also called the stream URL) and stream key to the corresponding streaming settings in your encoder.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password. Do not show it in a screen capture, overlay or public document, and do not share it with people who should not be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, select Go live there when you are ready. Labels and layout can change; follow the current prompts in Studio.

Test the stream before you announce it
Do not make the first test at the moment your audience expects the demo to be available. YouTube recommends configuring the encoder ahead of time and checking the actual viewing path.
- Start the encoder early and confirm the Live Control Room preview shows the intended picture and sound.
- Test your planned failover. YouTube’s guidance describes stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet connection and confirming the player transitions to the backup feed. Only run this test in a safe test or planned setup where it will not disrupt a public stream.
- If you are recording locally, check that the archive file is growing as expected.
- Open the stream’s watch page on desktop and mobile to confirm viewers can access it and that playback looks and sounds right.
- Test the recovery procedure for the actual failure modes you can control, such as a source restart or connection loss. Keep someone responsible for responding when the feed or audio fails.
YouTube’s live-streaming tips call for continuous monitoring of audio and video. An always-on schedule alone does not make the connection, source, encoder, power or stream immune to interruption.
Plan for interruptions, stream length and replays
Monitoring and recovery
Assign an operator or a clear monitoring procedure to check picture and audio and respond to source, encoder, power or internet problems. Know who can restart the feed, where the encoder settings and stream key are stored securely, and how you will confirm that the viewer-facing stream has recovered. YouTube recommends testing failover; it does not promise that a continuous stream will remain connected without supervision.

Continuous stream or shorter sessions?
A single continuous stream serves viewers who want the demo available at any time. Shorter planned sessions are easier to reconcile with YouTube’s stated automatic-archive rule. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its documentation does not promise a complete automatic replay for a stream that runs 24 hours or longer. If replay matters, use shorter sessions or make a separate local recording, then verify your archive workflow before launch. See YouTube’s encoder-stream guidance.

Use original demo material and clear rights
You are responsible for having the necessary rights to everything in the live stream, including applicable music, graphics and footage. Showing a product does not itself give you permission to reuse the manufacturer’s promotional video or soundtrack. Use original demo footage and assets you are licensed to use, and check any applicable licensing, consent, registration, notification or approval requirements for the territory where you stream. YouTube’s live-stream terms and conditions require creators to follow applicable laws and platform rules, including the Community Guidelines.
Monetization is a separate question from whether YouTube lets you stream. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams and expect monetized content to be original and authentic. A product demo should offer genuine demonstration or useful explanation; repeatedly looping an unchanged promotional clip may not meet that standard.

What monetization can mean for a channel in India
YouTube’s India-localized monetization guidance says a creator must be accepted into the YouTube Partner Programme (YPP) and meet the rules for the relevant feature. The thresholds below are YouTube Help eligibility figures accessed in 2026, not forecasts of views, sales or earnings. Check the channel’s Earn tab for the current route and feature requirements, since eligibility can change.

YouTube describes live-stream ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers and memberships as potential earning features subject to eligibility. Ad serving is not guaranteed. YouTube also says ads are turned off when a live stream is embedded on an external site with autoplay. Its India guidance says creators may be liable for taxes on YouTube earnings in their country of residence and refers them to their local tax authority; it does not establish an individual creator’s tax obligations. Consult an appropriate tax professional or current Indian tax authority guidance for your circumstances.
YouTube Shopping may let eligible creators show products from their own shop or tag products from other brands through its affiliate programme. India is listed for promoting products from other brands, but access is not guaranteed to every Indian channel; YPP and other channel requirements apply. The appropriate bitrate and upload capacity depend on the chosen resolution, frame rate, encoder and connection. The YouTube guidance cited here does not establish a numeric upload-speed floor or a bitrate recommendation for a particular configuration in India, so a single number would be misleading. Set the output using current guidance for your encoder and target format, measure sustained upload capacity, and test the real connection under the conditions in which you intend to stream. Do not assume a speed test taken once proves a 24/7 connection will stay stable.
