First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. You also need to have had no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Going live from the YouTube mobile app has an additional requirement of at least 50 subscribers.
Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio on a computer. Select Settings, then Channel, then Feature eligibility. Review which features are available and which require verification. YouTube’s feature guidance: See and unlock features with phone verification.
- Complete phone verification if requested. Choose the phone-verification option and follow the prompts for your account. YouTube lists live streaming among the features available after phone verification.
- Start or request live-streaming access if the page offers that option. For first-time activation, allow up to 24 hours for the option to become available; it may not appear immediately after verification. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Check for restrictions. YouTube requires that the channel have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Phone verification or changing an ordinary setting does not remove a live-streaming restriction.
Check which way you plan to go live
The channel eligibility check and the requirements for a particular streaming method are not the same. YouTube describes mobile streaming from a phone or tablet, webcam streaming from a computer webcam, and encoder streaming for broadcast software or other production equipment. Choose the method that matches your setup; you do not need to choose equipment just to enable channel access. See Get started with live streaming and YouTube live streaming tips — Computer.
Going live from the mobile app
In addition to the general channel eligibility requirements, YouTube’s mobile live-streaming guidance requires at least 50 subscribers and a supported mobile device. If you meet the phone-verification requirements but do not meet the mobile threshold, that does not by itself establish that webcam or encoder streaming is unavailable. If Go Live is still unavailable
- Feature eligibility still shows verification as incomplete: return to the phone-verification option in Studio and complete the prompts. Use the status shown for your channel rather than assuming a settings change finished verification.
- You verified recently: if this is the channel’s first activation, wait up to 24 hours before treating the delay as an unresolved issue.
- You see a live-streaming restriction or notice: read the notice on the channel’s eligibility page. The general 90-day condition does not explain the reason for a particular restriction, and changing channel settings is not a substitute for resolving it.
- You are trying to stream from a phone or tablet: check the 50-subscriber minimum and device requirements for the mobile app separately from general channel access.
- You meet the published requirements but remain blocked after the activation window: consult the account’s Feature eligibility page and its specific notice, then send feedback through YouTube or use Creator Support if it is available to your account. Public help pages describe general rules; they cannot identify the cause for an individual channel.
