There is no single YouTube-approved export preset for prerecorded videos that will loop 24/7. Prepare the files for the playback tool you choose, then configure that tool’s outgoing live feed to meet YouTube’s ingest guidance. Test the whole path—from file playback through the encoder to YouTube—before leaving it unattended.
Separate the video file from the live-stream settings
A prerecorded file is the source being played. The live stream is the audio-video feed an encoder sends to YouTube. YouTube’s live-stream recommendations describe that outgoing feed; they do not establish a universal file container, export preset, playlist procedure, or seamless-loop method.
Choose a playback and encoder arrangement that supports your intended files and continuous playback. Check that software’s current documentation for supported containers and codecs, playlists, loop behavior, and recovery options. Do not assume that a file YouTube accepts for upload will automatically work in a particular live encoder.
Choose output settings for YouTube Live
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Its current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video for RTMP/RTMPS, up to 60 fps, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate encoding. See YouTube’s live encoder settings for the full guidance.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Resolution, frame rate, and bitrate
Match the outgoing resolution and frame rate to the material and the upload connection. For H.264, YouTube recommends 14 Mbps at 1080p30 and 17 Mbps at 1080p60; the listed minimums are 5 Mbps and 6 Mbps, respectively. These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that a particular connection or encoder will stream reliably. Measure the available upload capacity and choose a bitrate it can sustain.
| H.264 output | YouTube-listed minimum | YouTube-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
Bitrate guidance varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate; do not apply the two 1080p H.264 recommendations to other output combinations. YouTube’s guidance says to use a two-second keyframe frequency and not exceed four seconds. It also notes that 2160p/4K streams cannot use low-latency optimization and are set to normal latency.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Audio and latency
Use AAC or MP3 audio for the outgoing stream, and verify that the chosen encoder sends audio continuously along with video. Consider whether low latency is actually needed for the stream’s purpose; 4K/2160p is not eligible for YouTube’s low-latency optimization.
Automatic or manual stream settings
YouTube Live Control Room defaults to automatic resolution and frame-rate detection. Manual selection is available with a custom stream key. If you choose manual settings, make the encoder’s output match the selected stream configuration. Consult the current YouTube encoder instructions for the applicable setup steps.

Prepare and test the playback-to-YouTube path
- Confirm source-file support. Check the encoder or playback tool’s documentation for supported file formats, audio handling, playlists, repeat behavior, and any limits relevant to your files.
- Build the intended playback sequence. Arrange the videos in the chosen tool and configure its documented repeat or playlist behavior. File looping is encoder-specific; YouTube’s live guidance does not prescribe a loop procedure.
- Configure the outgoing feed. Select RTMPS where supported, then set the video codec, resolution, frame rate, constant bitrate, keyframe frequency, and audio format to suit YouTube’s guidance and the connection.
- Connect to the intended YouTube stream. Use the stream key and settings associated with the planned broadcast. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to that stream.
- Run a representative preflight test. Test with audio and video motion similar to what the actual stream will contain. YouTube specifically recommends testing both before going live.
- Check stream health, then monitor it. Confirm that YouTube receives audio and video and review stream health after connecting. Monitor during operation rather than assuming that a successful start proves an uninterrupted 24/7 run.
YouTube’s official guidance recommends a test that includes representative audio and movement, followed by stream-health monitoring. The recommendations are setup guidance, not a reliability guarantee.
Understand broadcasts and streams when planning a 24/7 channel
In YouTube’s API terminology, a broadcast is the viewer-facing event or video, while a stream is the incoming audio-video feed and its settings. The distinction matters if you plan to run an always-on feed and schedule separate programming: YouTube’s API documentation describes starting and completing a separate broadcast on the same stream while a 24/7 broadcast continues. See YouTube Live Streaming API documentation for the platform’s model.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube receives no video or audio: Confirm the encoder is connected to the intended stream and sending supported video and audio codecs. Check the stream key and the encoder’s output configuration.
- Stream health reports instability: Compare the configured bitrate with sustainable upload capacity. Reduce output demands if the connection cannot reliably maintain the chosen bitrate, then test again.
- Playback stops or the playlist does not repeat: Verify the playback tool’s repeat and playlist settings and whether the file format is supported. YouTube’s guidance does not define these behaviors; use the encoder’s documentation.
- The video appears different from the file: Check the encoder’s output resolution, frame rate, codec, and any processing or scaling settings. A live feed’s output settings are separate from the source file’s export settings.
- The stream disconnects and does not resume: Look for reconnect or recovery controls in the chosen encoder’s documentation. The YouTube guidance cited here does not prescribe unattended recovery behavior for a particular tool.
