The encoder plays your tutorial files in a playlist and repeats them; it can run on a computer you keep powered and connected, or in the cloud. Scheduling the stream creates a watch page and can help viewers set reminders, but it does not start the video feed.
What a 24/7 tutorial stream actually is
YouTube does not turn a playlist of existing uploads into a live broadcast just because you schedule a Live event. An encoder must send video and audio to YouTube’s live server using the stream URL and stream key. For this setup, the encoder plays recorded tutorials as a continuous feed, and YouTube presents that feed as a live stream.
Be clear with viewers: title and describe the stream as prerecorded tutorials that repeat. Organize the playlist by subject, grade or level, or problem type so a student joining at any time can understand what they are watching.
Before you set it up
Check that the channel can go live
YouTube’s general live-streaming eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check the channel’s current status and feature access in YouTube Studio before preparing a long-running broadcast; eligibility and available features can depend on channel status.

Prepare material you have the right to broadcast
Use tutorial video and audio that you created or are authorized to broadcast. Rights apply to music, images, lesson materials, examples, and other third-party material in a recording—not only to the main video. YouTube’s livestream terms require the necessary rights, including music licensing rights where applicable. A video being educational or already uploaded does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it live.
Make the playlist useful at any entry point
- Group lessons by subject, level, or type of problem.
- Give each recording a clear opening that identifies its topic, so viewers who arrive mid-loop can orient themselves.
- Check that the playlist order and transitions make sense when repeated, including the jump from the final lesson back to the first.
- Use a title and description that explain the subject, intended audience, and that the tutorials are prerecorded and repeat.
Create the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create → Go Live. Use the Stream tab to set up a new stream, or choose Manage → Schedule Stream to arrange one in advance.
- Set the public-facing details. Add a title and description that accurately describe the lessons and disclose that the material is prerecorded and looping. Choose the audience and other settings that apply to your channel and content.
- Schedule if you want an upcoming watch page. Scheduling can give viewers a place to find the event and opt into reminders. It does not generate or send the live video feed; the encoder still has to connect and start transmitting.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. YouTube provides these in the live setup. Treat the key like a password: someone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not post it publicly or include it in a tutorial screenshot.
- Keep the event and encoder settings aligned. Use the selected stream’s URL and key in the encoder that will play your tutorials. YouTube’s encoder instructions say the watch page is created when the encoder begins sending content.
Choose where the continuous playback runs
| Approach | How it works | What you manage |
|---|---|---|
| Local computer and encoder | A playlist-capable encoder on your computer plays the tutorial files and sends the feed to YouTube. | The computer must remain powered, connected to the internet, and able to run the encoder. You are responsible for playlist playback and recovering the stream if the host or connection fails. |
| Cloud playlist service | You upload recordings and arrange playback through a provider that sends the feed from its infrastructure. | Review the provider’s current supported formats, storage and retention limits, costs, reconnect behavior, and privacy terms. These vary by service and plan. |
Local encoder checklist
- Choose an encoder that can play a playlist of local tutorial files and repeat it continuously. Confirm that its playlist behavior includes the transition from the last file back to the first.
- Import the videos in the order you want students to see them. Check each file’s picture and sound, and remove or repair broken files before going live.
- Enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the encoder’s streaming settings. The exact labels vary by encoder; use the server and key supplied for this YouTube stream.
- Set the encoder’s output to a resolution and frame rate your source material and computer can sustain. Avoid selecting an output that needlessly upscales low-resolution lessons or overwhelms the available upload connection.
- Set a stable output bitrate supported by the encoder and suitable for the selected resolution and frame rate. Check YouTube’s current encoder guidance and the encoder’s own settings; do not assume one bitrate fits every resolution, frame rate, or connection.
- Use a two-second keyframe interval if the encoder exposes a keyframe interval setting, consistent with YouTube’s encoder settings guidance. Check the encoder’s output and YouTube’s stream-health messages during the test.
- Start the encoder and verify that the feed appears on the intended YouTube watch page before relying on it as a continuous broadcast.
YouTube’s guidance is to test with audio and movement similar to the intended stream. A static title card is not a sufficient test of moving tutorial video or speech. Confirm the picture, speech level, and any lesson audio on the watch page, check access from a mobile device, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health information and messages. Keep an eye on playback after the stream starts: a successful connection does not prove every file or playlist transition will work correctly.

Test continuity and plan for long runs
Run through representative lessons, including the beginning and end of files and the playlist loop point. Check that audio does not disappear between clips, video does not freeze, and the repeated sequence returns to the first lesson as intended. If the stream will run unattended, test the actual setup—not just the media files—before announcing it to students.
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive statement, not proof that a continuous stream must stop at 12 hours. The cited setup guidance does not establish a maximum live duration. For an always-on schedule, separately plan how your encoder or service handles long-running broadcasts, interruptions, and any archive or replay needs.

Copyright and monetization are separate questions
Having permission matters even if the stream is educational
Use your own narration, lesson visuals, and examples, or secure permission for third-party elements you include. Do not assume that a short excerpt, classroom purpose, or existing upload makes a livestream rights-safe. If a recording contains music or licensed teaching material, confirm that the license covers this use.
A loop does not guarantee monetization eligibility
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. In a July 15, 2025 notice, YouTube said it renamed its former “repetitious content” policy to “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible; YouTube said this content was already ineligible under its existing policy. The policy describes monetizing content as original and authentic rather than mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative. YouTube’s policy states: “Be your original creation. If you borrow content from someone else, you need to change it significantly to make it your own.” A loop is a way to distribute lessons, not a shortcut around originality review.

If your channel and stream are eligible, YouTube offers monetization features such as ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships. Ads are not guaranteed to serve in every ad slot, so stream duration alone is not a sound basis for predicting revenue. YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour for channels that turned on live automatic mid-roll ads compared with channels that did not, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024. That is a historical platform-reported comparison, not a forecast for a new homework stream.

| Symptom | Likely checks and fixes |
|---|---|
| The scheduled watch page exists, but there is no live video. | Scheduling does not send a feed. Start the encoder and confirm it is using the correct stream URL and key for the event. |
| The encoder cannot connect or YouTube does not receive the feed. | Check that the stream key and server URL were copied correctly and that the encoder host has an active internet connection. Keep the key private; if you believe it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube’s live setup and update the encoder. |
| The stream starts, but video or audio is poor or unstable. | Test with representative motion and speech. Check the encoder’s selected output resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and two-second keyframe interval against YouTube’s current encoder guidance; also check the host’s connection and YouTube’s stream-health messages. |
| A lesson plays incorrectly or the playlist stops at the end. | Test every file and the full playlist transition, including the final-to-first loop. Repair or remove files that fail and verify that the encoder is configured to repeat the playlist. |
| The stream works on a computer but not as expected on a phone. | Open the actual watch page on a mobile device, as well as checking the channel page, and confirm that video and audio are available there. |
| The broadcast stops while unattended. | For a local setup, check whether the computer slept, lost power or internet, or the encoder stopped. Review the encoder’s recovery behavior and plan how you will restart the feed. YouTube’s setup and monitoring guidance does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. |
| A continuous stream has no archive or the expected replay is missing. | YouTube’s cited automatic-archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours. Do not treat it as a promise about longer broadcasts; plan archive and replay needs separately. |
