Add a static subscribe reminder by placing text or an image in your encoder’s stream scene; in OBS, add it as a text or image source. If you want an alert that appears only when someone subscribes, that is a separate, event-triggered feature and requires an alert service that supports the relevant YouTube event. Preview either setup before relying on it during a continuous stream.
Choose between a persistent reminder and a subscriber alert
A persistent reminder is a short message or graphic that remains on screen, such as “Enjoying the stream? Subscribe.” A subscriber alert is shown in response to a new subscription. The first can be added directly to an encoder scene; the second depends on an alert provider’s event support and configuration.
YouTube lists encoders among its live-streaming methods and notes that encoders can stream with overlays. The instructions below therefore apply to an encoder workflow, not necessarily to mobile, webcam, or console broadcasts. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
Add a static subscribe reminder in OBS
- Prepare the reminder. Write a brief, accurate prompt or create a graphic. Keep it visually distinct from the gameplay or other stream content.
- Open the scene used for the live stream. In OBS, select the scene that carries the video you send to YouTube.
- Add the reminder as a source. Add a text source for a simple message or an image source for a prepared graphic. For an overlay hosted by a third party, OBS documents using a Browser Source to embed it.
- Position and size it. Place the reminder where it is legible without hiding important game action or other essential content. Check it against the stream layout rather than assuming it will look right at every output size.
- Preview before going live. Inspect the scene at the intended output dimensions and verify the message remains readable. YouTube and OBS documentation support overlays, but do not specify a special 24/7 setup or certify unattended operation.
Set up an alert that appears when someone subscribes
OBS does not directly provide stream alerts. Its guidance describes embedding third-party alert overlays with a Browser Source, but it does not establish that any particular provider supports an automatically triggered YouTube subscriber alert. OBS Project: How do I add alerts to my stream?

- Choose an alert provider only after checking its current YouTube integration and whether it supports the exact subscriber event you need.
- Follow that provider’s current setup instructions to create the alert overlay.
- Add the overlay to the appropriate OBS scene as a Browser Source, as described in OBS’s alert guidance.
- Test the overlay and its event behavior before relying on it in a continuous broadcast. Do not assume that an alert appearing in a preview proves that a real YouTube subscription will trigger it.
Keep the reminder clear and compliant
If you use YouTube’s official Subscribe Button, follow its specific conditions: buttons must be fully and clearly visible; do not offer or promote prizes or rewards in exchange for clicking; and do not track user data related to actions on the button, including clicks. These conditions concern the official button and its use; they should not be presented as a blanket ban on ordinary on-screen text prompts.
