A 24/7 YouTube stream can help a channel build an audience, but it does not guarantee subscribers or monetization—and a single uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast may not produce an archived video whose watch hours can count toward YouTube Partner Program eligibility. If you are aiming for full ad revenue in India, plan for both 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 eligible public watch hours in 12 months or 10 million eligible Shorts views in 90 days, then check the channel’s Earn tab and preserve eligible public livestream archives.
This guide reflects YouTube’s published eligibility and livestream guidance accessed on October 3, 2026. YouTube’s YPP page announces a threshold change effective February 1, 2027; check the current page and your Earn tab before relying on these figures after that date.
What 1,000 subscribers does—and does not—qualify you for
One thousand subscribers is not, by itself, enough to qualify for full ad revenue. YouTube currently lists two routes to that tier:
- Long-form route: 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 qualified public watch hours during the previous 12 months.
- Shorts route: 1,000 subscribers and 10 million qualified public Shorts views during the previous 90 days.
Watch time from views in the Shorts Feed does not count toward the 4,000-hour route. YouTube also excludes watch hours from ad campaigns and livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD (video on demand). These thresholds are entry conditions, not approval guarantees: the channel must also meet YouTube’s monetization policies and account requirements, and YouTube reviews applications. There is also an earlier YPP tier in eligible locations: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 long-form watch hours in 365 days or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days. YouTube associates this tier with fan-funding and other features; Watch Page Ads, Shorts Feed Ads, and YouTube Premium revenue are listed at the 1,000-subscriber tier. Check YouTube’s monetization features page and the Earn tab for current availability and requirements in your account.
Does livestream watch time count toward 4,000 hours?
It can, provided the views are eligible and the public livestream is converted into a public VOD that remains available. A livestream’s hours are not automatically eligible just because the broadcast happened or the stream was public while it was live. Unlisted or deleted streams, streams that are not converted to VOD, ad-campaign watch hours, and Shorts Feed watch time do not count toward the 4,000-hour requirement, according to YouTube’s YPP guidance.

For a gaming channel, make the stream useful enough that viewers have a reason to stay and return: for example, a clearly labelled challenge run, a scheduled community session, or a well-organized gameplay broadcast with a consistent topic. Use a readable title and description, make the channel identity clear, and moderate chat. Those are practical channel tactics, not YouTube eligibility rules or a promise of subscriber growth.
The 24/7 archive problem: why one endless broadcast is risky
YouTube’s encoder and archive guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. As a result, a single uninterrupted 24-hour stream may leave you without a complete public VOD. That creates a real risk for watch-hour eligibility: YouTube excludes livestreams that are not converted to VOD, and the archive of an over-12-hour stream is not assured.

A safer broadcast schedule
- Break the schedule into shorter public broadcasts. End each session before it reaches 12 hours rather than treating an unbroken day-long stream as one dependable archive. The under-12-hour guidance is not a guarantee of every other eligibility condition.
- Check the archive after each broadcast. Confirm that the stream appears as a public VOD and plays as expected. If it is missing, private, or unlisted, do not assume its watch hours will qualify.
- Keep eligible VODs public. Do not delete or unlist a recording you are relying on for public watch hours.
- Track progress in YouTube Studio’s Earn tab. Use the figures shown for your channel rather than estimating qualification from a livestream’s concurrent viewers or total runtime.

Choose a stream format you can sustain
The right format depends on what you can produce consistently, how much moderation it needs, and whether you can keep the rights to everything shown and heard. No one format is established as universally best, and YouTube’s eligibility rules do not promise that a 24/7 stream will attract subscribers.

For gaming broadcasts, check rights for game footage, music, overlays, and any other included material. Do not assume that a livestream format or an archive makes copyrighted material safe to use. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to the channel as a whole, and meeting the numeric thresholds does not override those policies.
Set up a YouTube livestream
YouTube supports several ways to go live, including mobile, webcam, encoder, and console. An encoder is useful when your setup needs gameplay capture, overlays, or external audio and video equipment, but it is optional. YouTube’s own tips say: “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.”

Before the first broadcast
- Verify the channel and confirm there is no livestreaming restriction from the previous 90 days.
- Meet YouTube’s stated minimum age of 16 to livestream.
- Choose a method that fits the stream: mobile, webcam, console, or an encoder.
- Decide in advance how long each broadcast will run and how you will check its public archive.
- Use only audio, gameplay, and other material you have the rights to use.

For an encoder-based gaming setup
- Open YouTube’s live-streaming controls in YouTube Studio and create or schedule a livestream. Review the stream’s visibility and title before going live; use public visibility if you are working toward public watch hours.
- Connect your encoder using YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Copy the details shown for that broadcast into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key as private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it using YouTube Studio.
- Configure the game capture and audio sources in your encoder, then start a test before the public broadcast. Confirm that the preview shows the intended gameplay and that viewers can hear the game and microphone at suitable levels.
- Check the stream from more than one view. YouTube recommends testing the preview and checking access from channel or watch pages and on mobile. Monitor picture and sound while live.
- End the session within the planned duration and confirm the resulting public VOD is available before relying on it for watch hours.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder; its practical broadcast checks are at YouTube live streaming tips. The exact encoder controls vary by software, so use its current instructions for local capture and audio settings. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish one universal bitrate or resolution for every game, encoder, and connection.

India’s 1,000-subscriber and 4,000-hour figure was announced by Google India when that threshold was introduced in 2018. That announcement is historical context, not a separate current India-only eligibility list. YouTube’s current YPP rules require applicants to live in a location where the program is available, so confirm availability and your channel’s status in Studio rather than relying on an old country-specific announcement. For YPP application, YouTube also lists monetization-policy compliance, no active Community Guidelines strikes, 2-Step Verification, access to advanced features, and a linked or newly created AdSense for YouTube account through Studio. YouTube reviews a channel after it applies; reaching the thresholds does not ensure acceptance. Check the current YPP eligibility page for any updates, especially after the announced February 1, 2027 change.
