How to Loop a Playlist on YouTube Live Continuously in India

To loop a playlist on YouTube Live, run the files through an encoder such as OBS and set the repeat option there. YouTube receives the encoder’s live feed; the loop is configured in OBS, not by sending a regular YouTube playlist to Live Control Room. YouTube’s published setup instructions describe a general workflow, not a separate India-specific method.

Before you start

  • Your channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s general requirements also say streamers must be at least 16. Check your channel’s current Live Control Room settings for account-specific availability. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance is current as accessed on October 3, 2026.
  • Install OBS Studio and have the video file or files available on the computer that will run the stream. OBS supports Windows, macOS and Linux. To use its VLC Video source, install VLC as well. OBS Media Sources documents these sources and controls.
  • Keep the computer and its internet connection running for the duration of this DIY broadcast. The encoder sends the stream continuously from your machine.

Choose how OBS will loop the media

One video file: Media Source

  1. In OBS, create or select a scene.
  2. In the Sources panel, select + and add Media Source. Create a new source, name it, and choose the local video file.
  3. In the source properties, enable Loop. Confirm the preview shows the video and that its audio is audible in the mixer.

Use this option when one recording should repeat from its beginning. The loop is handled by OBS’s media source, as described in the OBS documentation.

Several videos: VLC Video playlist

  1. In OBS, add a VLC Video source to your scene. If this source is unavailable, install VLC and reopen OBS.
  2. In the source properties, add the files in the order you want them to play. Check the preview to confirm the sequence and audio.
  3. Enable Loop Playlist so OBS repeats the list. OBS documents this setting as on by default; check it rather than relying on the default. Shuffle Playlist is off by default. Enable shuffle only if you want the order to vary.

Choose VLC Video when you need multiple items in one sequence; Media Source is simpler for a single file. The playlist loop and shuffle controls are OBS settings, not YouTube playlist settings. OBS Media Sources (dated January 11, 2022) describes both approaches.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live, then select or create an encoder stream. Follow YouTube’s current Live Control Room prompts. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key from the stream settings into OBS’s stream settings. Do not share or publish the key: YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” See Manage live stream settings.
  3. Start streaming in OBS. Wait for the encoder feed to appear in the Live Control Room preview and check picture and sound. If the stream is scheduled, select Go live in Live Control Room after the preview appears.
  4. Monitor the broadcast, especially after starting and when the media file changes. To end it, stop the broadcast in Live Control Room and stop sending content from OBS.

These are the documented encoder-stream steps; YouTube’s instructions do not describe an India-specific playlist-loop setting. The available controls can still vary by account, so use the settings shown in your own Live Control Room. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and YouTube live-streaming tips.

Plan for long broadcasts and YouTube rules

Archives and rewind

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable, and viewers cannot seek to a point before the stream began. Do not assume an uninterrupted long broadcast will have a complete archive or unlimited rewind. Check Turn on DVR on live streams for the platform’s DVR guidance.

Rights and stream content

Only stream video and audio you have the rights to use. A file repeating in OBS does not grant permission to rebroadcast its contents. Review YouTube’s live-streaming tips and the rules that apply to your channel and content before going live. Do not treat a successful preview as confirmation that a recording is cleared for continuous public streaming.

Troubleshooting

  • The video stops instead of repeating: For one file, open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a list, confirm the VLC Video source is using the intended files and Loop Playlist is enabled.
  • VLC Video is missing: Install VLC, then restart OBS and add the source again.
  • YouTube does not receive a feed: Check that OBS is using the stream URL and key for the selected encoder stream, and that the key was copied correctly. Keep the key private.
  • The preview appears, but the scheduled stream is not public: Once the preview is ready, select Go live in Live Control Room.
  • There is no sound or the wrong media is playing: Check the OBS preview, source playlist and audio mixer before starting or continuing the public broadcast.
  • You cannot start a live stream: Check channel verification and whether a live-streaming restriction applies. Confirm the age and eligibility requirements in YouTube’s current guidance.
  • The archive or rewind is incomplete after a very long stream: YouTube’s stated archive and DVR behavior differs for streams below and above 12 hours; an uninterrupted stream longer than that is not a reliable way to promise a complete replay.
