You can run recorded CAT classes as a continuous YouTube Live feed by connecting a looping-capable encoder to YouTube Live Control Room. First verify that your channel can stream, confirm rights to every recording and embedded asset, then test the encoder before going public. The main trade-off is that YouTube may not archive a broadcast longer than 12 hours, so decide whether uninterrupted continuity or reliable individual replays matters more.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified, eligible for live streaming, and free of live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time live-streaming access can take up to 24 hours to activate. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- An encoder that can play your recorded lessons in sequence and repeat them if you want a loop. YouTube supports encoder-based streams but does not endorse a particular looping application; confirm that your chosen software or hardware supports playlists and the recovery behavior you need. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Class recordings and all included slides, music, clips, and other material that you have permission to rebroadcast.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your chosen output settings, plus a local recording plan if you need a backup archive.
Choose how the stream and replays should work

YouTube’s guidance describes automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours and warns that longer streams may not be captured. Keep a local recording if preserving every class matters, and verify the saved file rather than assuming it is complete. YouTube also documents an advanced API pattern in which a separate broadcast can be completed while a 24/7 feed continues; this is not a one-click Live Control Room setting. Prepare the CAT class playlist
- Put lessons in a deliberate sequence, such as quantitative aptitude, data interpretation and logical reasoning, and verbal ability. Arrange topics to make sense for someone joining mid-stream.
- Check the beginning and end of each recording, audio levels, picture quality, and transitions. Normalize audio and remove accidental silence or private information where appropriate.
- Prepare a simple slate or schedule that identifies the lesson currently playing and what comes next. This is a production choice, not a YouTube requirement.
- Test that the encoder can move through the playlist and repeat it without stopping the live feed. If your application cannot loop or recover from a playback failure, use a different workflow or plan to monitor and restart it.
Create the YouTube Live event and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live. Choose to create or schedule an encoder stream. Add a clear title and description, select the visibility, and configure chat and other event options for your audience.
- In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the matching encoder fields. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, show it on screen, or share it with people who should not control the stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Select the prepared playlist and configure the output format and bitrate. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingestion. Its encoder guidance covers H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, not over four seconds. Check the current YouTube encoder settings for the exact supported combination and bitrate for your resolution and frame rate.
- For a specific reference point, YouTube lists 10 Mbps as the recommended H.264 bitrate for 1080p at 30 fps. That is platform guidance, not a guarantee that your encoder or connection can sustain it. Choose settings your upload connection can maintain consistently; do not apply the 1080p30 figure to a different resolution, frame rate, or codec.
- Start the encoder output and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Check that the right lesson is playing, the audio is audible and synchronized, the picture is stable, and the event is visible to the intended audience. Run a representative test with similar content and settings before the scheduled launch.
- When the preview and stream health look good, start or confirm the event in Live Control Room. Keep monitoring the encoder, YouTube stream health, playback, and chat as appropriate.
Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
A single 24-hour event is convenient as one destination, but it is a poor choice if you expect YouTube to provide a complete replay: YouTube says streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind can be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If each session should appear as a replay, schedule and end separate broadcasts before the 12-hour threshold, then start the next event. The handoff requires attention and may create a viewing gap. For preservation, record locally as well and check that the resulting file plays correctly.
For a 24/7 feed managed through the YouTube Live Streaming API, Google documents binding separate broadcast videos to a continuing stream. Its example describes completing a separate interview broadcast while the 24/7 feed remains live. This requires an API-based implementation; it is not a substitute for the encoder and event setup above by itself.

Clear rights before broadcasting recorded classes
Do not assume that buying, teaching, or possessing a recording grants the right to rebroadcast it. Confirm permission for the class itself and for every third-party component, including slides, music, video clips, and other embedded material. YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. A detected match can lead to a placeholder replacing the stream, interruption, or termination. Even if you have a license, a rights owner using Content ID may need to allowlist your channel for the stream to avoid interruption. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Check the stream during and after launch
- Watch Live Control Room’s preview and stream-health indicators; investigate warnings rather than assuming viewers see what the encoder shows locally.
- Open the public or unlisted viewer page on another device and confirm the event plays with the intended title, visibility, video, and sound.
- Monitor playlist progression and transitions, especially on the first loop. Confirm the encoder does not pause after the final file.
- If you are saving a local backup, verify that recording is enabled, that the file is growing or being saved as expected, and that the completed recording opens and contains audio and video.
Troubleshoot common failures
