Super Chat and Super Stickers are one-time purchases that highlight a viewer’s message or sticker in live chat. Memberships are recurring monthly payments in exchange for channel-specific perks. Choose Supers for visible, one-off interaction; offer memberships when you can provide worthwhile ongoing benefits to a core community. YouTube publishes no head-to-head earnings or conversion results for 24/7 channels, so neither option can be said to earn more by default.

YouTube’s advice frames Supers around direct interaction and faster acknowledgment. It suggests memberships may help a small, passionate niche community connect more deeply through benefits such as loyalty badges and custom emoji. Which option fits your channel?
Choose Supers for live-chat interaction
Supers can suit a channel where viewers drop into chat and want a purchase to be visible in that moment. A 24/7 schedule alone does not ensure that viewers are present, chat is enabled, or a Super purchase will happen. Supers are not donations or crowdfunding: YouTube says fan-funding features are not those tools, and payments may be treated differently under applicable laws. Choose memberships when you can sustain perks
Memberships make sense when you can offer continuing value to people who want to support the channel regularly. YouTube lists possible benefits such as badges, custom emoji, members-only posts, early access, members-only chat during public streams, members-only live streams, milestone chats, members-only Shorts and videos, and other creator perks. The available benefits depend on the channel and membership level; do not imply every channel offers all of them. Review YouTube’s membership benefits guidance before promising a perk.

Use both if they serve different needs
Supers and memberships are complementary. A viewer can make a one-time highlighted purchase without becoming a member, while a member pays monthly for the benefits attached to a level. Make the choice easy to understand: describe what membership provides, and let viewers decide whether they also want to use Supers when chat is active.
Check eligibility before planning around either feature
YouTube’s baseline fan-funding requirements include participation in the YouTube Partner Program, a creator who is at least 18, and residence in a country or region where the particular feature is available. The creator also needs to accept and comply with applicable terms, meet the feature’s detailed requirements, and turn it on in YouTube Studio. These are baseline conditions, not a complete feature-by-feature checklist; location and feature availability matter. Check the Commerce Products policies and your current Studio settings.

Specific Super Chat and Super Sticker restrictions
Supers are unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, private, Made for Kids, or YouTube Giving fundraiser videos. They are also unavailable when live chat or comments are turned off. Plan membership perks at the level you offer
Before enabling memberships, decide which benefits you can reliably deliver and which level includes each one. A perk that depends on frequent new content or live interaction may be a poor fit if the channel’s format does not support it. Explain the actual benefits clearly rather than promising a generic “exclusive access” experience.

What a 24/7 schedule does—and does not—change
An always-on stream creates more potential occasions for a viewer to arrive, but the official guidance cited here does not establish that continuous streaming produces more Super purchases, member conversions, or retention. The relevant decision is whether your audience wants occasional visible interaction, recurring benefits, or both—and whether you can maintain the benefits you advertise.
YouTube also lists ads and YouTube Premium revenue among livestream revenue options. When monetization is on, pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled; mid-rolls can be automatic or manual, and an ad slot is not guaranteed to serve. These are separate from the choice between Supers and memberships. YouTube says automatic mid-roll settings limit ad disruption to channel members and temporarily pause mid-roll ads for viewers who send gifts, Super Chats, and Stickers. Its reported average uplift of over 20% in instream ad revenue per hour compared channels with automatic live mid-rolls to those without them; the figure covered 207 countries in January 2024 and is about ad settings—not evidence that memberships or Supers increase earnings by that amount. YouTube documents IFTTT applets that can trigger actions when someone sends a Super Chat or joins as a channel member. Some actions involve online services or connected devices, and some require a compatible device. This is an optional way to respond to events, not a requirement for either feature.
