YouTube allows up to 10 active streams per channel, while each stream key can be used for up to three active streams. Both limits apply at the same time, so a channel cannot start another stream if either cap has been reached. For separate, simultaneous feeds, create separate stream events and send each event’s stream URL and key from an encoder.
What counts as multiple streams?
Separate feeds—such as different games, channels of gameplay, or other video—are independent streams. YouTube’s workflow is to create each stream in Studio and configure an encoder with that event’s stream URL and key. The 10-stream channel cap and three-stream-per-key cap both apply; the per-key allowance does not raise the channel-wide limit. YouTube Help describes the limits and stream setup.
Do not confuse multiple independent feeds with YouTube’s dual-format streaming. YouTube documents presenting horizontal and vertical versions of one stream with a shared stream URL and chat. That is a different feature, not two separately configured stream events.
How to set up separate simultaneous streams
- Confirm live streaming is enabled. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of your planned start. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Create an event for each feed. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create each independent stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder workflow for each one: copy the event’s stream URL and stream key, then enter those details in the encoder that will send that feed. - Start within both limits. Keep no more than 10 active streams on the channel and no more than three active streams on any one key. If a start fails, check both counts before changing encoder settings.
- Choose where encoding runs. Local software or hardware encoding uses the device’s processing resources. A cloud encoder reduces the workload on the creator’s computer and may distribute a feed to multiple destinations. YouTube does not give a universal processor or computer specification for this choice; requirements depend on the encoder and the feeds you run. See YouTube’s overview of streaming options.
- Plan how you will keep the video. YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours. Its guidance does not establish that one uninterrupted 24/7 event will be saved as a single complete archive. If you need recordings, plan for that limit rather than assuming a full-day stream will become one archive. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Local encoding or cloud encoding?
The right setup depends on how many feeds you need to keep running and whether you want the encoding workload on your own equipment. YouTube describes local encoding as a choice for creators seeking control and high quality, and cloud encoding as a simpler option that reduces computer load and can distribute to multiple destinations. These are workflow distinctions, not a guarantee about any particular provider, plan, or destination limit.

Having permission to livestream does not itself establish permission to use every video, soundtrack, or game asset in a 24/7 broadcast. Check the rights and applicable platform rules for the material you plan to run; a stream that stays live continuously is not exempt from copyright requirements.

YouTube’s encoder instructions say YouTube Partner Program members can monetize live streams. That is conditional on YPP membership and does not mean that running a 24/7 stream automatically qualifies a channel or its content for monetization.

Troubleshooting multiple streams
- You cannot start another feed: Count active streams across the channel, then check streams using that key. The respective limits are 10 per channel and three per key.
- The first stream will not start: Verify live-streaming eligibility, including channel verification and the absence of a restriction in the prior 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- The wrong feed appears: Check that the encoder is using the stream URL and key for the intended event, rather than another event’s details.
- Your computer struggles as you add feeds: Local encoding uses its processing resources. Consider a cloud workflow if reducing the local workload is more important than keeping encoding on your own device.
- You expected a full-day archive: YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours; it does not establish that a single 24-hour event will be archived as one complete recording.
