Choose a YouTube restreaming service when you are producing a live show and want to send it to YouTube and other destinations at the same time. Choose a playlist-loop service when you have recorded videos and want them to play continuously or on a schedule as a YouTube Live broadcast. The deciding question is whether your source is live production or prepared files—not simply which service uses the word “stream.”
What each service does
Restreaming distributes a live production
A restreaming workflow starts with an active live production: an encoder sends a live feed to a cloud relay, which distributes it to the destinations you select. YouTube describes a cloud service encoder as receiving one high-quality live stream and distributing it across selected channels, resolutions, or platforms. Alternatively, a local encoder can create separate streams on your computer. See YouTube’s guide to streaming across platforms for current setup guidance.
This is the better fit for a live gaming session, tournament, or hosted show when you want simultaneous distribution and live production control. Restream documents multistreaming as well as pre-recorded video features, so a vendor can offer both workflows; verify the specific feature and plan rather than relying on the product category alone. Its guide to using YouTube with Restream describes integrations and related capabilities.
A playlist-loop service broadcasts prepared files
A playlist-loop service plays uploaded recordings in an arranged sequence and sends that sequence as a YouTube Live broadcast. It is suited to continuous or scheduled programming built from prepared material, rather than an actively hosted live production. A cloud player can keep the broadcast running without leaving OBS or a personal computer online. Check what the service actually loops: one video, an entire playlist, or both.

Choose by workflow, not by a feature label
| Question | Restreaming or cloud relay | Playlist loop |
|---|---|---|
| What is the source? | An actively produced live show or event. | Recordings already prepared and uploaded. |
| What is the main goal? | Distribute a live production to multiple channels or platforms at once. | Keep prepared programming available as a YouTube Live broadcast, continuously or on a schedule. |
| What stays running? | A live source and encoder must continue feeding the relay; a local encoder also needs a stable local connection. | A cloud service can play uploaded files without a dedicated always-on home PC or its ongoing upload connection. |
| How does interaction fit? | More natural for live chat, presenter interaction, and production changes during the show. | Prepared media is less suited to spontaneous participation. Confirm whether chat, graphics, or playlist edits are available during playback. |
| What limits should you check? | Destination count, supported platforms, custom RTMP, resolution, and plan limits. | Whether looping applies to one file or a whole playlist, maximum duration and item count, storage, simultaneous streams, and recovery behavior. |
Some services span both columns, but their limits and operating steps can differ by feature. Restream’s documented pre-recorded tools, for example, distinguish repeating a video from streaming a playlist.

Check what “loop” means in the plan
Repeating a video is not the same as looping a playlist
Restream’s Help Center documents a paid repeat feature that can replay one video up to 10 times, with a maximum 40-hour stream. The feature does not provide native playlist looping. Its separate playlist feature is documented with a maximum 24-hour playlist and up to 40 videos on specified paid add-on tiers. These are vendor-documented limits, not general limits for all services. See Restream’s pages on repeating a pre-recorded video and creating and streaming a playlist.
Compare service limits before paying
Restream’s July 25, 2026 Help Center page lists Marathon at $79 per month, with a four-hour video library and up to 1080p, and Media at $239 per month, with a 12-hour library and up to 4K. These are vendor-listed prices and limits that may change; confirm the current plan details and whether a playlist feature is an add-on before checkout. Restream’s pricing FAQ says its free option can multistream to two of its listed channels. That allowance is specific to Restream’s free option, not a universal free-tier standard: check its current pricing page.

Account for bandwidth and YouTube setup
Local simulstreaming needs upload capacity
If your computer sends separate streams to several destinations, the upload requirement adds up. YouTube recommends aiming for upload speed 1.5 to 2 times the combined target bitrates and checking the connection under realistic conditions. Its example combines 6 Mbps and 4 Mbps stream targets—a total of 10 Mbps—and suggests 15–20 Mbps upload speed. This is an example, not a promise that every connection will perform reliably at that rate. YouTube also notes that first-time live-stream activation can take at least 24 hours after the initial request. Consult its current setup and bandwidth guidance.

Cloud relay changes the path, not the need for a working source
With a cloud relay, your local encoder sends one source feed to the relay, which handles distribution. That can avoid the need to upload a separate copy to every destination from your connection, but the source still needs enough capacity and stability for the chosen service. Check stream health, destination compatibility, and the relay’s resolution or bitrate limits. With a playlist service, uploaded files are played from the provider’s infrastructure; check its own storage, format, and stream limits instead.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use this checklist before choosing
- Identify the source: Is the show being produced live, or is it made from recordings?
- Count destinations: Which platforms and accounts need the broadcast? Do they support a direct integration or standard RTMP destination?
- Check the live setup: Can your encoder and upload connection handle the required output, or will you use cloud distribution?
- Verify playlist behavior: Does the service repeat one file, loop a complete playlist, or both? Check the item count, total duration, storage, and concurrent-stream limits.
- Plan for changes: Do you need live chat, presenter interaction, graphics, or the ability to edit a playlist after playback starts?
- Compare the actual plan: Confirm destination and quality caps, what is included, whether a feature is an add-on, and the price shown at purchase.
- Review rights: Do you have permission for live transmission, rebroadcast, music, and any resulting on-demand copy?
- Understand recovery: Ask what happens after an internet interruption, invalid stream key, source-file error, or platform outage.
Protect the channel and plan for interruptions
Rights and YouTube policy still apply
Using a restreaming or playlist service does not grant rights to the material. Google’s live-production guide says content in live streams must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service and advises creators to obtain the necessary clearances for live streaming, rebroadcast, and audio/video on demand. The guide also says streams up to 12 hours are automatically turned into a video-on-demand on the channel, and advises recording longer streams for manual upload if needed. Treat that as operational guidance for the event and check current YouTube settings and policies for your channel: YouTube’s full live-production guide.

No provider can eliminate every failure mode
A relay or cloud playlist service can reduce some local operating burdens, but it cannot guarantee that YouTube or a network will never interrupt a broadcast. Looping Stream identifies platform outages, invalid keys, and source-file problems as possible causes of a stopped stream, and cautions that uninterrupted operation cannot be promised. This is the provider’s statement, not an independent reliability benchmark. Before going live, validate the stream key, test the source, and learn how the selected provider reports and recovers from errors.
Or let it run in the cloud
