To run computer science lessons on YouTube around the clock, first enable livestreaming on an eligible channel, then either send a live encoder feed from a computer or use a cloud service to loop prerecorded lessons. A local OBS setup gives you direct control but requires the computer and connection to stay on; cloud looping can keep uploaded lessons playing without a home computer running. Before choosing either, plan stream quality, copyright checks, and what happens to archives: YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, not an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast.
Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube requires an encoder-livestreaming channel to be verified, with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. The creator must be at least 16. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch: YouTube’s livestreaming setup requirements.
Use lesson recordings and other materials that you created or have the necessary rights to use. An educational purpose or a credit line does not by itself prevent a Content ID match or make content eligible for monetization.
Choose how the lessons will stay live
Local computer and OBS
YouTube describes encoder streaming as suitable for screen sharing and advanced production, and lists OBS as free, open-source software. This approach is useful when you want to teach live, narrate lessons, or control what appears on screen. The computer, encoder, and internet connection must remain active for the feed to continue. Add a screen-capture source for code and slides; use a microphone if your existing audio is not clear enough.

Cloud looping for prerecorded lessons
YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for continuous prerecorded streams. Gyre’s described workflow is to upload videos, arrange a playlist, connect the YouTube account, and schedule the loop. This avoids relying on a local computer for playback. Vendor claims about performance or audience growth are not guarantees.
These methods make different trade-offs: a local encoder supports live narration and hands-on control, while cloud looping suits unattended playback of prepared videos. The cited platform and vendor guidance does not establish a neutral price or reliability comparison between them.

Prepare lessons that provide real educational value
Organize the playlist around distinct lessons, with clear course or topic labels and meaningful variation. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to livestreams as well as uploaded videos. Its policy update of July 15, 2025 renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material with little variation may be ineligible. Reused material needs meaningful commentary, modification, or educational value; copyright compliance is a separate requirement. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Create the stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live to open Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one.
- Open the Stream tab and copy the server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in OBS. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance covers connecting an encoder.
- Use RTMPS if your encoder supports it. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL and recommends it to encrypt the connection to Google’s servers.
- Keep the stream key private: YouTube says it works like a password. Limit access to trusted operators and reset the key if it is exposed. Reusable custom stream keys and encoder auto-start/auto-stop options can reduce repeated setup work, but test the exact workflow before relying on it unattended. Set a bitrate your connection can sustain
Check your actual upload speed rather than relying on the connection’s advertised download speed. YouTube recommends keeping roughly 20% upload headroom above the total stream bitrate; include a backup feed in that total if you configure one. For a concrete reference, YouTube’s encoder table recommends 14 Mbps H.264 ingest for 1080p at 30 fps. That is a platform recommendation, not a guarantee that every connection can sustain it. If your measured upload cannot support the bitrate plus headroom, choose a lower resolution or bitrate. See YouTube’s recommended encoder settings.

- Test with representative lesson audio and screen movement; a static slide does not exercise the connection like switching screens or moving content.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before starting the public broadcast.
- Open the watch page on a phone to confirm viewers can access and understand the stream.
- Monitor stream health and audio/video quality after launch, and lower the output settings if the connection cannot sustain them.
Plan the 24/7 schedule and replay strategy
YouTube automatically archives livestreams under 12 hours. An uninterrupted 24/7 stream therefore should not be treated as one guaranteed, complete replay. If you need saved archives, plan breaks or separate broadcasts and verify how the chosen workflow handles its archive. YouTube’s guidance on livestream archives explains the archive limit.
For monetization, YouTube’s explanation of qualified watch hours, dated August 12, 2026, says eligible hours must come from public long-form videos or archived livestreams; hours from unarchived livestreams do not qualify. Do not assume that continuous broadcasting automatically produces qualifying public watch hours. A scheduled stream can appear to subscribers as upcoming, where viewers can opt in to notifications.

Protect the stream from rights interruptions
YouTube scans livestreams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies a match, a placeholder may replace the stream; persistent third-party content can interrupt or terminate it. Even licensed third-party content may be interrupted unless the rights holder has allowlisted the channel in Content ID. Use original lesson audio, code, slides, and recordings where possible, and get permission for material you did not create. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
