There is no defensible single monthly price for cloud hosting an always-on YouTube podcast stream: the total depends on whether you need only a cloud encoder sending one feed to YouTube or a larger system that also packages and distributes video to viewers. Those are different cost scopes, and AWS’s published live-event example is not a quote for a simple YouTube podcast stream.
First decide what “cloud hosting” includes
A cloud encoder runs continuously and sends a stream to YouTube. A fuller media pipeline may also encode, package or originate the video, and deliver it to viewers through a content-delivery service. YouTube handles transcoding live streams into viewer output formats, but that does not establish the price of a cloud encoder or other third-party services. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers providing the live server URL and stream key: YouTube encoder setup.
- Encoder-only estimate: price the cloud resources that create and send your stream, for the hours they run.
- Full distribution estimate: include any packaging, origination and separate viewer-delivery services your architecture uses. Do not attribute those costs to a basic stream-to-YouTube encoder.
Without those assumptions, a monthly figure would be misleading. The reviewed sources do not publish a named statistic for the monthly cost of an always-on YouTube podcast stream.
What AWS’s published example does—and doesn’t—tell you
AWS estimates approximately $69.74 for a one-hour SD 540p live event with approximately 1,000 viewers in US East (N. Virginia): $2.50 for live encoding and packaging, plus $67.24 for distribution. Distribution accounts for most of that example’s cost. It describes a particular event and delivery architecture, not an always-on YouTube podcast price. Multiplying it by 24 hours or by the hours in a month would not produce a valid estimate for a different audience and architecture. See AWS’s Live Streaming on AWS cost example.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Build an estimate for your actual stream
Define the configuration first, then price all of its running time with the provider’s current regional rates. AWS’s MediaLive pricing page describes resource-based charges and pricing options; a usable quote requires selecting the resources and region that match your design.
- Set the scope. Write down whether the estimate covers only the encoder feeding YouTube or also packaging, origination and delivery to viewers.
- Specify the stream profile. Record resolution, bitrate, frame rate, codec and number of outputs. Encoding resource needs and prices depend on the profile and configuration.
- Count scheduled runtime. Include every hour the resources will be running, including overnight periods and planned maintenance. AWS says MediaLive charges for running inputs, outputs and add-ons; charges continue while a channel is running even when it is not receiving input or producing output.
- Choose the resilience design. Identify whether processing is single or redundant. AWS describes standard channels as using two processing pipelines in different availability zones, so redundancy can increase resource costs.
- Model viewer delivery separately. If your system separately serves viewers, estimate distribution using the expected audience and the provider’s applicable rates. Do not assume YouTube ingest costs and viewer-delivery costs are interchangeable.
- Apply region and commitment terms. Price the actual region and compare the provider’s available pay-as-you-go and commitment options. AWS states that eligible reserved pricing with a 12-month commitment can save up to 75% against on-demand pricing; whether that applies depends on matching usage and configuration.
Keep the assumptions alongside the monthly total: runtime, profile, outputs, redundancy, region, delivery scope and pricing option. A total without these details cannot be compared fairly with another estimate.

How YouTube’s settings fit into the cost question
YouTube’s encoder setup requires its live server URL and stream key. Its settings guidance recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed four seconds; these are stream-configuration details, not a cloud-hosting price. See YouTube live encoder settings.
YouTube’s verified encoder directory includes AWS Elemental MediaLive and identifies Gyre as a cloud-based tool for continuous streaming of prerecorded video. YouTube notes that listed encoder products are not made by YouTube. The directory confirms categories of available tools, but it does not establish current plan prices, which option is cheapest for a podcast, or an affiliate relationship.
