Verify the channel first, keep the stream key private, test the picture and sound, and have someone ready to monitor and reconnect the stream. A computer-and-OBS setup can run for an extended broadcast, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 service.
Before you set up the stream
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its current guidance also sets a minimum age of 16 for live streaming. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- Choose the sermon source. Decide whether you are streaming a live speaker or a prerecorded sermon. For live speech, make sure the computer has a suitable audio input; YouTube lists microphones and preamps among hardware that can be used with encoder streaming. A prerecorded sermon with clear audio may not need a new microphone.
- Confirm permissions. Check that you have permission to stream the sermon recording and its components, including music, images, performances, and translated text where applicable. Religious or educational subject matter does not by itself establish that you have the necessary rights.
- Assign a human monitor. Power, internet, computer, encoder, or platform interruptions can break continuity. Decide who will check stream health and reconnect if needed.
Create the YouTube broadcast
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and confirm that the channel is eligible to stream.
- Create a broadcast or select the scheduled broadcast you intend to use. Set its title, description, visibility, and audience designation. Interface labels can change, so follow the controls currently shown in Live Control Room.
- Choose a scheduled or immediate workflow based on whether viewers need advance notice and whether you want to preview before the broadcast. Review the broadcast’s auto-start and auto-stop settings: these determine whether connecting or disconnecting the encoder changes the public broadcast state.
- Set the audience accurately. A sermon is not automatically “made for kids” just because families may watch; use YouTube’s current guidance and the channel’s intended audience to make the designation.
Connect OBS and test the stream
- Open OBS Studio and configure the sermon video and audio sources. Check that the intended Malayalam audio is present and that no unwanted desktop or microphone audio is being captured.
- In OBS’s stream settings, choose YouTube RTMPS and enter the stream key supplied for the broadcast. OBS’s YouTube setup guide describes this encoder workflow. Treat the stream key like a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Start the encoder connection and inspect the incoming stream status in Live Control Room before making the broadcast public. Use a private or unlisted rehearsal when suitable, and check both the viewer-facing image and the sound.
- Once the test is satisfactory, publish or start the broadcast and share its YouTube link. Keep watching stream health and audio throughout the run.
Choose broadcast controls with recovery in mind
Scheduled broadcasts and immediate broadcasts serve different needs, and auto-start or auto-stop can change what happens when OBS connects or disconnects. Understand those settings before relying on reconnection: with auto-stop enabled, an encoder disconnect may end the broadcast rather than simply leave it waiting for the encoder. Practice the exact setup you plan to use and make sure the monitor knows how to reconnect.
YouTube documents a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key; these platform limits can change. They are capacity limits, not guarantees about a stream’s uptime.
What “nonstop” means in practice
Leaving OBS open is not a promise of permanent continuity. The OBS guide notes that broadcasts can eventually end after multiple hours without incoming streaming. A power cut, computer failure, internet outage, encoder problem, or YouTube interruption can also stop the feed. The reviewed platform and OBS guidance does not establish a quantified uptime or guaranteed recovery mechanism for a computer-based setup.

For a long-running broadcast, rehearse the start and reconnect process, keep the computer and network dependable, and make the responsible operator reachable. If uninterrupted service is critical, compare the cost and requirements of an independent power or network plan with a managed cloud option.
