To show Hindi subtitles during a YouTube Live podcast, generate captions with a separate Hindi-capable speech-recognition tool and send them to YouTube. YouTube’s built-in automatic captions for live streams are English-only; subtitles added to the video as visible text are not the same as viewer-selectable closed captions.
What YouTube supports for Hindi live captions
YouTube says its built-in automatic captions for live streams are available in English only. Hindi captions for an uploaded video and Hindi captions during a live broadcast are different capabilities. The live automatic-caption feature is also described as rolling out to eligible English channels and limited to normal latency, so it may not appear on every channel. YouTube’s automatic-caption guidance notes that built-in live captions do not remain on the ended stream; captions on the later video-on-demand (VOD) may differ.
For a Hindi podcast, arrange an external caption source. YouTube’s documented paths include captions embedded in the stream as EIA 608/CEA 708 data, or a supported caption-software workflow that sends captions to YouTube. YouTube says, “To add captions to your live stream, you need to send captions to YouTube.” The documented workflow supports one caption track. Read YouTube’s live caption requirements.
Choose the right caption route
Before selecting software, distinguish closed captions from text drawn into the picture. Embedded or ingested captions can be viewer-selectable. An OBS text overlay, by contrast, is open text: it is part of the video image and viewers cannot switch it off or choose its appearance as a caption track.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Route | What viewers get | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Embedded EIA 608/CEA 708 | A caption track delivered with the outgoing stream, when the encoder and caption generator correctly support embedding. | That both tools support the format and that YouTube receives and displays the captions. |
| Supported caption software and YouTube ingestion | Captions sent to YouTube through the documented caption workflow; YouTube describes software sending HTTP POSTs to a captions ingestion URL. | That the software supports the caption source, Hindi text, and YouTube’s current ingestion setup. |
| OBS text overlay | Hindi text visibly burned into the picture, not selectable closed captions. | Text readability, placement, timing, and whether the overlay is suitable for the audience and archived video. |
YouTube names StreamText.Net as a cloud-based caption delivery system compatible with speech-to-text platforms. That reference alone does not establish compatibility with a particular Hindi recognizer, current Hindi coverage, or pricing. Check the provider’s current capabilities before choosing it.
Set up Hindi subtitles step by step
- Create the YouTube live stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the stream. Get the stream URL and stream key, then enter them in your encoder, such as OBS, and connect the podcast’s audio and video. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Select a caption delivery method. If the encoder and caption tool support embedded captions, enable closed captions for the stream and select Embedded 608/708; configure the tools to embed EIA 608/CEA 708 caption data. Otherwise, use caption software that supports YouTube’s caption-ingestion workflow, including its captions ingestion URL and HTTP POST method.
- Configure a separate Hindi recognizer. YouTube’s built-in live auto-captions will not generate Hindi captions. Choose a speech-to-text tool that explicitly supports the Hindi variety, names, and English-Hindi code-switching used on your show. Set its output to the delivery method selected above.
- Check the actual audio input. Make sure the recognizer receives the same clean podcast audio that viewers hear, not a muted, distant, or unrelated source. Keep speakers distinct and microphone levels consistent; overlapping speech and poor sound can undermine captioning.
- Rehearse using the exact live configuration. Run a private or otherwise appropriate test with the same encoder, caption software, stream settings, and audio sources planned for the broadcast. Confirm that Hindi text reaches YouTube, appears in the intended form, and stays synchronized through pauses and conversation.
- Review the result. Automated recognition can misrepresent accents, dialects, pronunciation, names, and noisy speech. Check the captions during the rehearsal and correct the source or settings where possible. Do not assume that a plug-in’s existence proves Hindi recognition quality.
OBS caption tools: validate before relying on them
Two OBS projects describe possible workflows, but their project documentation does not establish Hindi recognition support or accuracy. Treat them as candidates to test against your language and caption-delivery requirements, not as guaranteed Hindi solutions.

Troubleshoot missing, inaccurate, or delayed captions
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| No Hindi captions appear | The built-in YouTube live caption feature is being relied on, or the external caption path is not reaching YouTube. | Use an external Hindi-capable recognizer. Verify the caption-ingestion configuration or embedded 608/708 output, then test the complete route again. |
| Captions appear as picture text but cannot be switched off | Text is being rendered by an OBS source as an overlay. | That is open text rather than a selectable caption track. Use a supported closed-caption delivery route if viewer-selectable captions are required. |
| Text is missing words or mishears Hindi-English phrases | The recognizer may not support the Hindi variety or code-switching, or the audio may be noisy or unclear. | Check the recognizer’s language support, microphone routing and levels. Reduce background noise and overlapping speech, then rehearse with representative phrases and names. |
| Captions lag behind speakers or drift | Recognition and delivery introduce delay, or the caption and audio paths are not synchronized. | Check synchronization in the selected tools and test a full conversation, not just a short sample. The cited tool descriptions do not establish a universal delay figure. |
| Captions work in a test but not on the live broadcast | The production stream may use a different key, encoder configuration, audio source, or caption route. | Compare the live configuration with the rehearsed one: stream selection, key, audio input, caption format, ingestion settings, and software build. |
| Live captions differ from captions on the replay | YouTube’s built-in live automatic captions do not necessarily carry over to the ended stream, and later VOD captions may differ. | Review the archived video separately and arrange or correct its captions as needed; do not assume the live caption result will be retained unchanged. |
