You can loop an authorized devotional video on YouTube Live from a Linux VPS by creating a broadcast in YouTube Studio, then running FFmpeg on the VPS to send the file repeatedly to YouTube’s ingestion endpoint. You will need a stable VPS connection, a compatible FFmpeg build, the stream URL and key from YouTube Live Control Room, and permission to use every video and audio component.
Before you start: check rights and YouTube access
Clear the whole recording
Check rights for both picture and sound: devotional footage, sermons, readings, background music, hymn performances, and artwork embedded in the video. Religious subject matter does not itself grant permission to rebroadcast a recording. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; a detected match can interrupt the live feed. Even if you have a license, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID for the material to run without interruption. Enable live streaming in advance
If this is your first YouTube live stream, enable the feature in your account ahead of time: YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. You can use the waiting period to prepare and test the VPS workflow. The timing and steps are subject to YouTube’s current account and platform controls; check YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Create a YouTube Live broadcast and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and choose Go Live. Create a stream or schedule one from the Manage tab in Live Control Room.
- Open the stream settings. Copy the server URL and stream key YouTube provides for that broadcast. Use the connection details shown there rather than guessing an endpoint.
- Keep the key private. Treat it like a password. Do not put it in a public script, screenshot, repository, or message. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before sending a new feed.
- Keep Live Control Room open for the test. Once FFmpeg sends the feed, check the incoming preview and stream health before making the broadcast public or leaving it unattended.

Prepare the Linux VPS and video
Choose and secure a VPS
Use a Linux VPS you can administer, with enough CPU capacity for the encoding mode you choose, sufficient disk space for the source file, and outbound network transfer suitable for a continuous stream. This article does not establish a recommended India provider, region, price, transfer allowance, or performance level; confirm those details directly with the host before purchasing. Keep the operating system and FFmpeg package maintained, and restrict shell access to trusted users.
Install FFmpeg and upload the source
Install FFmpeg using the package manager and instructions for your distribution, then upload the authorized media file to a directory on the VPS. Package names, codecs, and build features differ by operating system and repository, so consult the distribution’s current package guidance and the FFmpeg documentation for the installed build: FFmpeg Documentation.

Inspect the file’s streams before you broadcast. For example, run ffprobe -hide_banner -i /path/to/devotional-video.mp4 if the installed package includes ffprobe. Confirm that the file has the expected video and audio tracks and that it plays properly. A source file’s codecs and format affect whether FFmpeg can copy its streams directly or must encode them; do not assume one command will work unchanged for every file.
Configure FFmpeg to loop and send the broadcast
Use the stream details YouTube supplies
For a secure contribution connection, use the RTMPS URL and connection details provided for the stream. RTMPS is RTMP carried over SSL. Google’s documentation specifies a valid YouTube ingestion endpoint and application path, port 443, and the hostname for SNI authentication during TLS setup. Copy the endpoint from YouTube rather than constructing or guessing it. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide.
Understand the loop and pacing options
FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 input option is commonly used to repeat a file indefinitely. Real-time input pacing is also needed so the file is sent at live speed rather than as fast as the server can read it. The exact option placement and output settings depend on the installed FFmpeg build and source file. Follow the documentation matching your build and test the actual media before relying on it unattended; the FFmpeg documentation describes the command-line options.

In the output configuration, provide the RTMPS server URL and the stream key from Live Control Room. Keep the key private and avoid putting it in a command history or script that other users can read. If you use a script, restrict its file permissions and avoid publishing it. Do not use a sample key or a URL copied from an unrelated stream.
Test before leaving it unattended
- Start with a short test using the real media file and intended output settings.
- Watch the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Check that both picture and sound arrive, playback is paced normally, and the stream health indicator is acceptable.
- Confirm the broadcast’s visibility and title in YouTube Studio before inviting viewers.
- Check the VPS process and network during the test. A successful FFmpeg start alone does not prove that YouTube is receiving a usable feed.
Operate the stream and plan for session limits
Monitor the VPS process, available disk space, network connection, and YouTube Live Control Room while the stream runs. Plan how you will handle interruptions and session transitions instead of assuming one broadcast can run and archive indefinitely. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that statement is not a guarantee of indefinite broadcast duration or reliable 24/7 archiving. Troubleshoot common failures
- You cannot start a live broadcast: If the account has never streamed live, enablement may still be pending; YouTube says it can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube Studio’s current status rather than repeatedly changing FFmpeg settings.
- YouTube receives no feed: Verify that the server URL and stream key match the broadcast in Live Control Room, and that the VPS can make an outbound connection to the provided RTMPS endpoint on port 443. Replace an exposed or potentially compromised key.
- The RTMPS connection fails: Copy the complete endpoint and path from YouTube’s stream settings. RTMPS requires a valid endpoint, port 443, and hostname information for SNI authentication; do not substitute a guessed host or path.
- The image or sound is missing, or FFmpeg exits: Inspect the media streams and FFmpeg error output. The file may lack the expected track, use a codec unsupported by the installed build, or need different output handling. Check the installed build’s documentation and test a short run.
- The feed plays too quickly or stalls: Review the input pacing and looping options for the installed FFmpeg version. Confirm the VPS has adequate compute and network capacity for the chosen handling of the file.
- The stream is interrupted after a copyright match: Review YouTube’s notice and resolve rights for the matched picture or sound. A license may not be enough on its own; the rights holder may need to allowlist the channel through Content ID.
