If you mean repeating a video while you watch it, use YouTube’s built-in Loop control. If you mean broadcasting prerecorded videos as a continuous YouTube Live stream, you need a broadcast workflow: OBS is YouTube’s listed no-charge encoder option, while cloud services can run the stream without your computer. These are different jobs, and the viewer Loop control does not create a live broadcast.

Loop a video for yourself on YouTube
On desktop, open the video, right-click inside the player, and select Loop. The video repeats for you; this does not publish or schedule a live stream. For a playlist, use the repeat control in the playlist controls to repeat the playlist.

Stream prerecorded video as a continuous YouTube Live broadcast
Free local-encoder route: OBS
YouTube lists OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) as open-source software available at no charge. In this workflow, OBS runs on your computer and sends a video feed to YouTube Live. The computer and its internet connection must remain available while the broadcast is running.

- Check channel eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Follow YouTube’s current live-streaming setup guidance.
- Set up the encoder connection. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream and use the stream settings YouTube provides to connect your encoder. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Configure OBS and the video source. Install OBS from its official site and configure a source and output for the broadcast. YouTube’s cited materials establish the encoder workflow, but do not establish the exact current OBS source or playlist setting for seamless repeated local-file playback. Check OBS’s current documentation for the source behavior you need rather than assuming a file will loop automatically.
- Start with a test. Start the encoder, inspect the preview in Live Control Room, then test with an unlisted stream before relying on a public broadcast. YouTube recommends checking the stream from channel and watch pages, including on mobile, and monitoring audio and video quality.
- Monitor the broadcast. Keep an eye on the encoder and YouTube’s stream preview while it runs. A local workflow depends on the computer, encoder configuration, and internet connection continuing to work.
YouTube says live content must follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Use only footage, music, and other material you have permission to broadcast; a video that can be uploaded is not automatically cleared for rebroadcast as a live stream.
Cloud-hosted alternative: Gyre
YouTube also lists Gyre for cloud-based 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. That listing does not establish a free tier or price, so check Gyre’s current pricing and terms before treating it as a free option. A cloud workflow can avoid leaving a home computer running, but you still need to monitor the YouTube broadcast.

Preview, access, and quality
Before sharing the stream, verify that the preview is receiving video and audio, then check access from your channel or watch page and a mobile device. YouTube recommends testing with an unlisted or public stream and monitoring audio and video quality. Unlisted visibility is useful for checking the viewing experience, but it does not change copyright obligations or channel live-stream eligibility.

Copyright and reused footage
Only stream material you own or are licensed to use for this purpose. Repeating third-party music, gameplay, or other video does not grant broadcast rights. YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service apply to live content, and rights claims or restrictions can interrupt a broadcast.
DVR, pausing, and long streams
YouTube’s DVR feature can let viewers pause and rewind during a live stream, but YouTube says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers also cannot seek to a point before the broadcast began. Do not rely on DVR as a way to replay earlier portions of a long-running stream.

Common problems and what to check
- You wanted a broadcast, but the video only repeats for you: You used YouTube’s playback Loop control. Create a live stream and send it through an encoder or cloud streaming service instead.
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified and has not had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, then review YouTube’s setup guidance.
- The preview has no incoming video or audio: Check the encoder’s selected source, its connection to the correct YouTube stream, and that the stream key was entered correctly. Keep the key private.
- The local stream stops when you leave: A local encoder depends on the computer and connection staying on. Use a cloud service if you need the stream to continue without your computer running.
- A long stream cannot be rewound as expected: DVR may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours, and seeking before the broadcast began is not available.
- A stream is interrupted or restricted: Check YouTube Live Control Room for stream status and alerts, and confirm that the footage and audio are authorized for live use and comply with YouTube’s rules.
