You can send a prerecorded video to YouTube as a live stream over Airtel broadband by scheduling a YouTube Live event, loading the video file into encoder software, and sending the encoder’s output to YouTube with the event’s stream URL and key. Whether your Airtel connection can sustain the stream depends on its measured upload speed at broadcast time—not just the plan’s advertised speed. Test it under realistic household conditions, then choose a bitrate that leaves roughly 20% of upload capacity unused.
Before you start: check YouTube access and your connection
Confirm that your channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction within the previous 90 days. Check access before preparing the event in YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Measure upload speed at the time you plan to stream
Airtel’s advertised plan speeds are not a measurement of your line’s upload performance. Airtel lists plans advertised up to 40, 100, 300 Mbps and 1 Gbps, while noting that broadband speed varies with the selected tariff; those figures do not establish the upload speed available to an individual customer. - Run an upload-speed test at the location where the encoder will be connected, ideally at the same time of day as the planned stream.
- Repeat the test while other people and devices are using the network as they normally would. Shared use can reduce the capacity available to the encoder.
- For a computer stream, connect by Ethernet if practical. YouTube recommends a wired connection; it is not a fix for insufficient ISP upload capacity.
- Compare stable upload capacity with the stream’s total bitrate, not just its video bitrate. Leave about 20% unused: YouTube’s streaming tips say, “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available. Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).”
For example, a 10 Mbps video bitrate needs more than 10 Mbps of available upload capacity once audio and headroom are accounted for. If the connection cannot sustain the target reliably, lower the video bitrate or resolution before going live rather than relying on the plan’s download-speed label.

Check your Airtel data terms for long broadcasts
Airtel India’s published Xstream Fiber terms state a 3333 GB billing-cycle fair-use threshold, after which speed is reduced to 1 Mbps. The terms also say the FUP may be amended, so check the current terms for your plan; do not assume this threshold applies unchanged to every customer or plan.
Choose encoder settings your upload can sustain
YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, recommends constant bitrate (CBR), and recommends a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds). YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted transport option.

These are YouTube’s recommended video-encoder targets, not guarantees that an Airtel line can carry them. Your available upload speed, audio bitrate, network sharing and remaining data allowance all matter. If the stream preview or health indicators show instability, reduce the bitrate or step down in resolution or frame rate.
Schedule the YouTube event and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio: select Create → Go Live. In the Manage tab, schedule a stream; alternatively, create one from the Stream tab. Set its privacy, title, description and other event details. Scheduling gives you an event URL to share in advance.
- Prepare a file-based source in your encoder: choose encoder software that can play a local video file as its source and send its output to YouTube Live. A camera or capture card is not inherently required for a file source. YouTube’s general encoder guidance does not provide a product-specific prerecorded-file tutorial or endorse a particular encoder.
- Copy the connection details: in YouTube Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s server and key fields. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it can send a feed to the event.
- Set the output: use H.264 video, CBR, the chosen bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval. Select RTMPS if the encoder offers it, and make sure its resolution and frame rate match the target you tested.
- Start the encoder and verify the preview: send the file feed, then check that YouTube receives picture and audio and that the event’s stream health is acceptable before the scheduled start.
- End the broadcast deliberately: stop the encoder’s output when the video is done. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived.

Test ahead of the event
YouTube recommends setting up the stream two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the event. An unlisted test event is useful for checking the complete chain without promoting a public broadcast.
- Confirm the video plays from beginning to end as expected, with the intended audio and no unexpected pauses.
- Check YouTube’s preview and stream-health indicators before the event begins.
- Check that the scheduled event is reachable at the intended privacy setting and that the title and description are correct.
- Keep other heavy network use in mind. If upload capacity fluctuates or the preview becomes unstable, lower the bitrate and test again.

Copyright and content checks for prerecorded video
Using a video file as a live source does not change the need to have rights to the video and its audio. Before streaming, confirm that you have permission for every element you did not create or license, including music, clips and other third-party material. A scheduled test can help verify the technical setup, but it does not establish that the content is cleared for broadcast or monetization.
